This young guy is now finally there. Winning in Harelbeke, Gent-Wevelgem, Scheldeprijs....

All great races.

But this is another level. Tom Boonen wins the Tour of Flanders!

It was all so easy at that moment. And everything was just there, for us to take.

Tom Boonen wins Paris-Roubaix!

It was so much that year. And the Tour of Flanders, and winning in Roubaix. It was a rollercoaster.

It felt as if they gave me a manual that I just had to follow...

Tom Boonen was born in a cycling family. His father Andre tried for a couple of years to be a professional cyclist as well.

I was a good cyclist U23. And as a professional, in the beginning I was ok, but I never could make that additional step.

First in a big team, then in a smaller team, then just the small local races.

At some point I started thinking: what am I doing?

At that time these local races had their own codes and traditions.

I mean that there were many problems with amphetamines and that many of these riders were addicted to it.

André saw all these problems and then decided that this was not what he wanted.

One day I decided to stop and we never talked about cycling races again.
