South Dakota is a state in the Midwestern region of the United States. It is named after the Lakota and Dakota Sioux Native American tribes, who historically inhabited the area. South Dakota is the seventeenth largest by area, but the fifth smallest by population, and the 5th least densely populated of the 50 United States.

The state is bordered by the states of North Dakota (to the north), Minnesota (to the east), Iowa (to the southeast), Nebraska (to the south), Wyoming (to the west), and Montana (to the northwest). The state's capitol is Pierre, and its largest city is Sioux Falls.

South Dakota is bisected by the Missouri River, dividing the state into two geographically and socially distinct halves, known to residents as "East River" and "West River". Eastern South Dakota is home to most of the state's population, and the area's fertile soil is used to grow a variety of crops. West of the Missouri, ranching is the predominant agricultural activity, and the economy is more dependent on tourism and defense spending.

The Black Hills, a group of low mountains sacred to the Sioux, are in the southwest corner of the state. Mount Rushmore National Monument is in the Black Hills. Custer State Park, a large game reserve, is also located in the Black Hills.

Badlands National Park is a unique area of sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles. The Great Plains region, west of the Missouri River and east of the Rocky Mountains, includes the state's capital city, Pierre, as well as the cities of Rapid City, Sioux Falls, and Aberdeen.

The geography of South Dakota is diverse, with the Black Hills in the west, the Great Plains in the east, and the Badlands in the southwest. The state can be divided into three geographic regions: eastern South Dakota, western South Dakota, and the Black Hills.

Eastern South Dakota is generally flat, consisting of rolling hills and prairies. The eastern part of the state is home to most of South Dakota's population. The area's fertile soil is used to grow a variety of crops, including corn, soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa.

Western South Dakota is more mountainous, with the Black Hills in the southwest corner of the state. The Black Hills are a group of low mountains that are sacred to the Sioux. The area is home to Mount Rushmore National Monument, Custer State Park, and Wind Cave National Park.

The Badlands are a unique area of sharply eroded buttes and pinnacles in southwestern South Dakota. Badlands National Park protects this area of natural beauty.

The state's highest point is Harney Peak, which is located in the Black Hills and has an elevation of 7,242 feet (2,207 meters). The lowest point in South Dakota is on Big Stone Lake, where the Minnesota border meets the lake's shoreline and has an elevation of 966 feet (294 meters).

these red streaks you catch glimpses of

in the wood are a huge Hint it gets its

name from two other totally unrelated

species of trees its leaves are often

mistaken for poison ivy it has a really

wide native range that spans much of the

country and it's one of many species of

trees that can be tapped for syrup as

state make it up on the map and you'll

also get to watch me carve a bread knife

out of a piece of this wood to step in

for slicing bread on a used bandsaw then

I tested out on some syrup infused milk

bread topped with serve compound butter

because it's maybe the best thing I've

tried making yet I don't know see for
