Korean ceramics artist Sukyoung Kang is one of the most celebrated ceramicists working in Korea today. Her work is characterized by its delicate forms and beautiful colors. In this interview, Kang discusses her artistic process, her influences, and her thoughts on the future of Korean ceramics.
Kang began her career as a ceramicist after completing her studies at the Seoul National University of the Arts. She first gained recognition for her work in the early 2000s, when she won several prestigious awards for her ceramics. Since then, she has exhibited her work widely in Korea and abroad.
Kang’s work is often inspired by nature. She often uses plant forms and animal motifs in her work, which she says are inspired by her childhood memories of growing up in the countryside.
When asked about the future of Korean ceramics, Kang is optimistic. She believes that the art form is evolving and that there is a growing appreciation for it among young people. She also believes that the globalization of the art world is opening up new opportunities for Korean ceramicists to showcase their work to international audiences.
