Stoicism: the ART of LEADERSHIP

Published May 21, 2023, 10:20 p.m. by Arrik Motley

In a world where the average person is bombarded with over 5000 messages per day, it's more important than ever to be a leader. Whether you're running a business, a team, or just your own life, being a leader requires a certain amount of stoicism.

stoicism is the philosophy that holds that the best way to deal with difficult situations is to remain calm and rational. This is especially important in leadership roles because it allows you to make clear-headed decisions and avoid being swayed by emotions.

There are a few key principles that all stoic leaders should live by:

1. Don't Let Your Emotions Control You

As a leader, it's important to be in control of your emotions. This doesn't mean that you should never feel emotions, but rather that you should be aware of them and not let them control your actions.

2. Be Willing to Make Hard Decisions

Leaders often have to make tough decisions. It's important to be able to weigh the pros and cons of each decision and make the best choice for the situation, even if it's not the popular choice.

3. Be Prepared for Setbacks

Setbacks are inevitable, but it's how you deal with them that defines you as a leader. It's important to stay calm and rational in the face of setbacks and not let them derail your plans.

4. Focus on What You Can Control

There are many things in life that you can't control, but as a leader, it's important to focus on what you can. Worrying about things that you can't control will only lead to frustration and will ultimately hinder your ability to lead effectively.

5. Be resilient

Leaders need to be resilient in the face of adversity. This means being able to pick yourself up after a setback and continue moving forward. It's important to remember that setbacks are only temporary and that you can overcome them if you have the willpower to do so.

Being a stoic leader requires a certain amount of discipline, but it's a discipline that is well worth the effort. If you can master the art of stoicism, you'll be able to lead effectively in any situation.
