Vini Jr. hits out at LaLiga chief over racism inaction

Inaction over racism in sport is simply unacceptable, says Vini Jr.

The Brazilian star, who plays for Spanish club Valencia, has taken to social media to express his anger at the lack of action being taken by authorities to stamp out racism in sport.

Vini Jr, who is of African descent, posted a message on Instagram calling out the inaction of laliga president Javier Tebas and Optus sport chief executive Alexei Lalas over the issue.

"It's a shame that in 2020 we are still dealing with racism in sport," Vini Jr wrote.

"I am disgusted by the inaction of laliga president Javier Tebas and Optus sport CEO Alexei Lalas over the issue.

"Racism has no place in society and it certainly has no place in sport.

"I stand with all those who have been victims of racism and I call on authorities to take stronger action to stamp out this disgusting behaviour."

Vini Jr's message comes after a number of high-profile incidents of racism in European football this season.

In December, Chelsea's Tammy Abraham was subjected to racist abuse by Montenegro fans during a Europa league match.

And last month, Liverpool's Mo Salah was racially abused by a Chelsea fan during a premier league match at Stamford Bridge.

Sadly, these are just two of many examples of racism in football.

Racism is a cancer that is destroying the beautiful game and it needs to be stopped.

authorities need to do more to stamp out racism in football and other sports.

Racism has no place in society or in sport. It's time for authorities to take strong action to stamp out this disgusting behaviour.
