The Tina Turner death Residents of Swiss Town She Called home Recall Positive, Powerful Superstar by Global news.
It is with deep sadness that we report the death of legendary singer Tina Turner. The Grammy-winning artist passed away at her home in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday. She was 78 years old.
Turner was born Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush, Tennessee on November 26, 1939. She began her career as a backup singer for Ike Turner and the Kings of Rhythm before going solo in the 1960s. She rose to fame with hits like “River Deep – Mountain High” and “Proud Mary”.
Turner was one of the best-selling artists of all time, selling more than 200 million records worldwide. She was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991 and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999.
Turner retired from touring in 2009 but continued to make occasional appearances. Her last performance was at the opening ceremony of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Turner was married to Ike Turner from 1962 to 1976. The couple had one son, Ronnie Turner. She was married to German record producer Erwin Bach from 2013 until her death.
Residents of the Swiss town where Turner lived recall her as a positive and powerful presence.
“She was a very nice person, always smiling,” said local resident Ursula Haeusler.
“It’s very sad that she died. She was a great artist,” added another resident, Christa Maurer.
Turner’s death was confirmed by her representatives in a statement to the Associated Press. No cause of death was given.
