Chaudhry has been criticised for his language during a press conference on Wednesday, when he was breaking news about the murder of journalist Shujaat Bukhari.
Chaudhry used abusive language to refer to Bukhari's family and colleagues, and also threatened to "choke" the media.
The National Union of Journalists (NUJ) has demanded that Chaudhry be sacked, and has called on the Prime Minister to take action.
In a statement, the NUJ said: "Chaudhry's language is shocking, unacceptable and inexcusable. He has shown a complete lack of respect for the family of Shujaat Bukhari and for the media community as a whole.
"He needs to be sacked immediately and Prime Minister Narendra Modi must take action to ensure that such conduct is not tolerated in the Indian media."
The NUJ said that Chaudhry's language was "completely at odds" with the values of the Indian media.
Chaudhry has previously been criticised for his comments on Twitter. In one tweet, he said that journalists were "enemies of the people".
In a statement on Wednesday, Chaudhry said that he was "extremely sorry" for his language.
He said: "I express my deepest condolences to the Bukhari family and my sincere apologies to the media fraternity. I deeply regret my comments which were inflammatory and had no place in a civilized society. I assure you that I will not make any such comments in the future."
