it's time for seminal headlines
featuring warchant.com's Jeff Cameron
managing editor IRA chauffal and Senior
writer Corey Clark your weekly dose of
all things FSU pistols and Pie starts
right now here's Jeff Cameron the Civil
headlines 93 three Real Talk Pretty
award champ TV I think I think we have
it working I will start by saying Ira
say hello
hey Jeff
that is heard by the masses I do believe
Corey say hello is this thing on can
anyone hear me can anyone hear me I
believe we are up and running
perhaps 18 minutes late
time to go to our break that's the chat
hear us does everybody suggest that they
can hear us
I think the answer is yes
or Ira's watching closer you're not
watching closely they do or do not hear
us they hear us let's go mic check whew
yeah man they're all they're all in
we're good to go we're good to go let's
let's refresh our minds right now I'm
it's kind of in a bad place for 15
minutes adversity well we got to see how
we handle adversity uh because that was
adverse but we're approached we've been
doing it for a long time well first I
don't want it to affect our awesome
sponsor in the form of register sausage
so we'd have to say sorry about that
register sauce
we've done a did a pretty good job over
the last couple of years today being the
exception please we ask your forgiveness
but in the interim I will say for the
world to hear
yay sausage
a little bit of Gusto there that's uh I
was out at the park watching at the Plex
watching FSU softball and I was pleased
to see the sausage display I tweeted the
picture from there where people now at
the softball regionals and I assume at
the Super Regionals people could get
their register sausage I think they had
a regular sausage and then they also had
the jalapeno cheddar and I saw some
friends uh partaking in it and uh how
are they serving it Ira is it like a
sandwich or is it just straight
good
but now we've lost now we've lost Corey
because his internet sucks it's a uh
I'll answer your question for you Corey
you can read it you can hear about it on
the replay it it's uh like a sausage dog
like you get at the Ballpark as one
would yeah man except instead of a
regular hot dog or sausage it's a
register sausage so it's delicious I
would ask that you not call it the
sausage display that you were proud to
see you're happy to see you don't like
this I think it's just verbiage
play their sausage yeah yeah and it's
delicious delicious sausage indeed and
you got to see a riveting game and we
got to see an all-time great performance
and we celebrated that last night on the
smash we certainly talked about it over
the weekend and we can talk about it
here because it's an all-time great
thing uh but
it's a little awkward start to the show
and I don't know how to ease into this
thing other than Corey I wanted your
perspective on it because IRA and I
already talked about it what uh what cat
did is in the annals of Florida State
lower right we'll be talking about this
for 20 years yeah I mean because
the offense let her down like one run in
13 Innings is not what you're hoping for
right that's not what you're hoping for
in the biggest moment the biggest day of
the season but she made sure it didn't
matter and her defense her defense was
Flawless it wasn't 21 up 21 down with 21
strikeouts
um but yeah man that's that's I compared
it on wake up war chant to like what
Buster Posey did that one Regional or
what Charlie Ward would do would
adversity struck like just a great
player making sure that their team
doesn't lose and she was incredible
um just when they needed it the most and
that's what great players do so as I
tweeted the 32 will be retired at some
point Florida State softball is a little
They Don't Really retire the numbers
with uh a lot of fervor like they've
only got two retired
um there's a lot more that deserve
probably at least the the number the
jerseys to be retired if not the numbers
but she's certainly up there man she's
one of the all-time greats and that was
uh that was really cool to see well it's
much more high profile now I mean let's
be honest
not been exactly a sport though a we
would have ever talked about five to
seven years ago and and I know you know
people get mad if they want it just
didn't move the needle at all now it
does the Sport's much better than it
used to be it's played better it's more
athletic it is no longer running bunts
you see a lot of great athleticism and
fun action and the sport has grown
nationally so I don't know that anybody
would have been aware of the Forgotten
softball stars of yesteryear in the 70s
and 80s not that they didn't exist it
just would not have been something that
people thought about and now you will
now you will because really for the
better part I guess I should say for the
better part of seven eight years Florida
State softball has mattered and we see
it on our boards and we see it
nationally with the ratings for softball
hey man we've got some people who are in
the chat not thrilled about some
softball talk but here's the deal guys
listen first of all they deserve it
second of all and we're not gonna spend
two hours
that's all I'm talking about is her
performance but also look man we haven't
seen a live Florida State team has a
whole lot of success since the the uh
the bowl game because uh we we watched
basketball and baseball and uh so we're
gonna we're gonna save her some success
on the field for this FSU softball team
particularly when Catherine Sanders did
what she did hey shout out shout out
also to the FSU women's golf team
they're in the quarterfinals of the
National Tournament right now they're
they're playing Wake Forest and they
have a little bit of an edge with about
four holes to go I'm not trying to jinx
it and it's on the Golf Channel if you
want to watch it or yeah so so you're
gonna obviously have that on the TV and
have us on your computer but yeah so
they're they're they're doing well too
they got a chance at a national
championship still yeah you can feed
into that if you want Corey here you go
you're going to make everybody happy uh
no what what I what I'm telling you is
it was more about I brought up a
singular performance in the Isles of
Florida State lore and not the team and
not the subject of softball and not it's
just more about where does that Rank and
how long will that be remembered because
it should and we still remember certain
aspects of other Olympic sports that
people have been exemplary at so yeah I
mean I'm not going to ignore that yeah
and I'm also not going to apologize for
talking about that softball team because
it is one of the best programs on campus
it's a really fun sport they do have to
figure out the time situation because a
year or two ago one of the great things
about it was it was so much faster than
college baseball but man and I know the
UCF game was a was a an oddity because
that picture took a minute between
pitches yeah I can't do that but even in
general softball now is taking I mean
these softball games are taking two and
a half hours it's a little much for a
seven in the game
yeah man I can't see it because I got
the blinding lights but yeah I was I got
a little sunburn
the other reason is that I don't know
how many more times we could talk about
the results of the spring meetings that
you attended over there at Amelia Island
I mean we've certainly exhausted that
conversation as well I will say this Tom
and I just shot a video for something
that listen this is a grand introduction
of summer when lists come out that piss
you off or make you laugh or make you
celebrate or just make you click at all
you know we are in the throes of Summer
and a list came out and it didn't once
again include Jameis Winston an enraged
Florida State fans and it's a list of
top 10 quarterbacks right right I think
he was on the on the bigger list yeah
and and so
you know we basically just shot a video
Tom and I did this morning about that
list look Ben the one thing about the
list season which is what summer is and
and and we specifically will comment at
least as it regards in regards to
Florida State Seasons or players or
whatever it might be
you know you got to always find out if
that person or that media entity is
defining their terms
James played two seasons
the guy on top that list four
one at 14 000 plus yards passing one at
seven thousand we're not comparing
Apples to Apples at that point if you
like did anybody singularly have a
better year than 2010 Cam Newton
right now right so so but what does he
rank all time well that year so my point
is don't bother getting all pissed off
about that I know that most in the
Florida State Community would say well
this is just another example of ESPN
leaving Jameis off a list look man I
mean if I'm gonna do that I'm gonna tell
you that uh I'll just I'll just have the
60 touchdown Joe burrow year in which he
threw 60 touchdowns and six
interceptions and through a gazillion
yards as the greatest season ever or Cam
Newton's year or whatever we can go back
a ways but man it's not worth getting
not angry about it it's amazing the
feedback well even the the list on
Three's been putting out their top 10
players in every position or top in the
top 100 players I think in college
football and Florida State have five of
the top 100 players in college football
according to on Three's list which to me
I mean the first thing that says to me
is holy crap how things have changed
because two years ago they wouldn't I
mean if they did a list of the top 500
players right in college football would
they have had anybody on it but they've
got five of the top 100 I think the most
any school had I think Michigan had
seven there's maybe one other school
with six and there's a few with five but
Florida State's one of the teams there's
only a handful of teams in the country
that have five players on the list but
of course a lot of FSU fans were just
mad that Jordan was too low or that you
know Johnny was too you know low in it's
like
I mean these listen you're not they're
not going to make everybody happy but
that's you know they generate interest
and talk but but from a big picture
standpoint the fact that Florida state
has five of the top 100 I mean that's
really cool well there's evidence all
around our talking points our poll
questions are are you know round tables
the Articles you guys have written the
stuff we'll do in the off season when we
eventually get to the top 40 and all
those things there's evidence everywhere
that Florida state has completely
flipped that locker room and raised the
floor and provided now a number of elite
players in this league and nationally I
mean I think we all we did this a couple
weeks ago Corey when we were talking
about how many people off of this
upcoming years team are gonna get
drafted yeah because the drafters came
and went and they had you know one guy
get drafted and it was in the fifth
round and so you look at that and now I
ask you in the next two seasons how many
Florida State players are going to get
drafted and the answer is double digits
yeah I would say somewhere between 12
and 15 you would think and guys I'll be
honest with you I'm looking forward to
that top 40 warship list it's going to
be the easiest one we've ever done we're
not gonna number one Travis J will not
be anywhere on it for the first time in
half a decade just gonna ride with him
you're still going to put him at 38.
just to see what he can do that's right
but I mean it's you know I was I was
talking with Aslan about this like out
of that top hundred you know Jaheim
Bell's not in it
um Jeremiah buyers isn't in it Patrick
Payton's not in I'm not saying they
deserve to be in it I'm saying you have
players like that that aren't even your
top players like top players quote
unquote
um Ronaldo green I mean Ronaldo Green's
a really good college football player at
least he was this past year
who who I don't know if he'll be drafted
I don't know if he'll be uh I think
he'll be drafted but I don't know where
he ranks in the in the in the pantheon
of college football players right now I
know he's a good college football player
and what could make this team special is
you have some Elite Elite Talent in our
it's not top heavy though sprinkled
around that Elite Elite Talent is good
college football players Caitlin DeLoach
Tatum Bethune Jeremiah Byers Maurice
Smith
Robert Scott guys like that man TOA
feely guys that aren't even really
thought of as elite elite players but
they're good and they're experienced and
I think that's what gets you excited
about this season I actually think the
top 40 list is going to be opposite of
what Corey said it could be harder I
think it's really hard
the players won't be harder you know
Discerning between number seven and
number 11 might be more difficult it
won't be more difficult yeah it won't be
hard to come up with 40 players that has
been the challenge and a few years ago
it was hard to get into 10. yeah two or
three years ago but yeah but um but you
know that but there will be a challenge
of who do you who do you leave off
because there's going to be guys who we
leave off the top 40 that are probably
pretty good football players two years
ago this exercise depressed the hell out
of me three years ago it depressed the
hell out of me four years ago it
depressed the hell out of me this year
we're gonna have consternation over 7 10
12 15 18 20. yeah but it's a different
kind of uh Difficult by far in the past
you just kind of had to project a whole
bunch of guys you had to project like 25
of the 40 on that list to take a huge
step forward and put forward in order to
be on the list now you've got to be like
all right well I I've got 20 I know are
on the list right off the bat there's
just 20 off the top of my head that are
easy how do I rank them from there who's
fighting for a starting job and do I
think they're going to win it because if
they don't how valuable are they and
where will you put them because that's
going to require Corey and all of us on
staff to project the starting five on
the offensive line start there who are
the starters and who are the backups all
of them will play a top 40 role but who
are they and then there's two more
beyond that because there's 12 to 5 for
five you know the three tight ends I
think we're gonna probably rank Jaheen
Bell number one on that list but then do
you do you think Morlock or biscuit will
have a greater role as the number two
Titan I think probably biscuit right now
but I mean it it's it gets fun it's a
more fun Endeavor than it's been in a
long time there's a lot of fun back in
2013 2014. it's about to be fun again
finally yeah when we first started doing
these I can't remember the first year
Gene started it I think it was in a long
time ago probably 10 or 11 somewhere in
there but it at the time it was a pretty
it was a fun exercise because there was
a lot of good players and then he
probably didn't
project that we would get to the 2018
season where you're you're putting guys
on there that man alive I remember
having the time Tom and I would go on
this big white board that we had at the
old office and we would write down 40
because he would be asked to do it too
and I'm like man I don't think there are
40 good players I know there's not 40
good players are there 20 good players
and then we would argue about that I'm
like are there 10 good players okay what
do we do with the other 30 slappies how
do I move these guys around to make it
make any sense of this list also an
Endeavor we used to have on warchant
which was a lot of fun which we didn't
do this year because we would have
picked one freaking guy was where does
this player get drafted remember those
debates like oh I think he's second
round oh he's maybe late first oh I
think he's early third we used to have
to really worry about 20 guys yeah we
would have like a big a big table with
like you know all the columns and rows
and everybody's making all their picks
yeah so I I joined and I joined warchant
in December of 17 so my first top 40 was
the 2018 team
um which look man my first top 40 I'm
pretty sure I had Alex horny bro no
sorry my second top 40 I had Alex horny
Brook in the top 10.
Hornswoggle was in the top ten James
Blackmon might have been number one
I mean not that I thought he was the
best player on the team but most
important I mean quarterback's pretty
important clearly
um and so we've come a long way gang is
all I'm saying we've come a long way
that hortisolago Blackman
um Travis J they're not they're not
going to be featured in the top 40 for
2023. Preston Simpson's coming at you
Jeff he's alive he loves to mess with us
and his Insight is always funny he says
that uh you had cushny at 37 last year
I was so mad when that walked out there
on that field that day and saw him I'm
like that's impossible I mean how could
you guys have done such a good job and
then somehow thought that guy was going
to play for you at defensive end that
was unbelievable he was I mean they had
a spot they had a spot it was July let's
take a chance
not a favor to like I mean what in the
world was going on there that said that
said they don't have to do that now now
it's a battle at most places now there's
depth in most places we should just come
up with
lists for the remainder of May list for
June list for July because it's what
every other Outlet does it's what
sometimes we have to engage in the off
season's tough guys
so I'm talking about a list of our
favorite uh our favorite road trips to
like SEC or Big Ten schools
like do that like have a list of where
would you want to go where would you
want to be playing in 2025 which of
these cities I was going to do a column
and I might still do it Corey but I was
going to account when I was sitting over
there in the lobby of the uh Ritz
Carlton at Amelia Island at the ACC
meetings I started to do a list of the
10 10 my 10 favorite memories from
covering
that event over the last 12 13 years
were they all this year no no no no and
one of them was uh one of them was gonna
be the Himalayan salt that has to be in
the top ten it's still there right oh
yeah yeah oh my gosh the bathrooms are
the Ritz Carlton the lobby bathrooms
they had that Himalayan rock salt you
rub it on your hands Jeff it's like a
baby's bottom it's as smooth as a baby's
cheek it's ridiculous what it does to
your hands yeah my other favorite one
was one of the other favorite ones you
know you know and I still May write the
column because it may again it may be
the last time we go over there because
if anything crazy happens over the next
year I'm imagining fsu's not getting
invited back but uh the lunch a lunch we
had a lunch I had with it was a two or
three it was probably three or four of
the media members in Leonard Hamilton
and Jimbo Fisher together for lunch nice
over there it was uh that was an
interesting conversation similar
personalities yeah similar personalities
I'm convinced that's the only time those
two men spoke in the entire time they
were worked at the University uh because
yeah it was like they had never seen
each other before what do you do it was
I'm not a football coach
well my favorite part was when Leonard
was telling a story about recruiting in
Miami and Jimbo had to top him oh it's
like come on man the guy was the head
coach of the University of Miami yeah
he's probably got let him have this one
let him have this one and then Jimbo had
to come over the top with one of his and
why wouldn't you I'd want to hear all
those stories especially recruiting in
Miami like talking more than he does
listening
I remember there were a couple times in
interviews where I would answer a
question that he threw my way and that
he just keep talking I was like you
asked these questions I didn't ask you
that for you to answer I just threw it
to The Ether I didn't need you to
actually respond to it

to think about here we've spent a ton of

we should have right and we talked a lot
about Florida State's efforting to make
more money or leave or figure out figure
out a way out from under the grant of
rights deal well
yesterday the Pac-12 commissioner uh you
know noted there had been no substantive
talks at this time with ESPN or anybody
else for that matter for for that league
right they don't have anything coming
down the pike and it's a floundering
conference and this is the latest in a
series of negative headlines and real
bad news for the teams in that
conference a terrible Omen right Brett
McMurphy reported later that day from

review as well as a pause on travel
purchases and new professional
development of any kind
due to a significant decrease in monies
and projected monies coming into the
Pac-12 via television contracts or
anything else
you've heard hints and Whispers from
other athletic departments in the Pac-12
that their some programs may just go the
way of the dodo and certainly any plans
on future development football or
anything else has been put on freeze
this is the plight of all the programs
who are certainly efforting to put
themselves in a position to compete or
for that matter
conferences that are effort efforting to
put themselves in a position to compete
and play Big Boy football moving forward
if if a deal doesn't get done this is
what can happen this is why the Panic
this is why the concern with the future
of Florida State football from our
athletic director and from those closest
to the ACC who give a damn about
mattering a year from now five years
from now and 10 years from now yeah
there was a you know one of the comments
I saw a lot on our message boards and on
um after you know things kind of the
Dust up last week or the last week or
two along the lines of
how much money do you really need and I
think some of the people at the ACC
meetings made those comments like at
what point
is enough enough does it really matter
if those schools have that much more
money well here's where it does matter
and a perfect example it was right now
softball that we just talked about you
know it's every year I don't know how
many years now it seems like Lonnie
Alameda has had overtures not just
overtures but like hard pushes from SEC
schools trying to get her to come to
come to their School Auburn Texas A M
last year of course there's been several
schools she's one of the top softball
coaches in the country if maybe not the
best and so these SEC schools want to
emulate that success so they're trying
to get her over there Florida state has
been able to counter that the last few
years they've either improved the
facilities given her long extensions and
she just signed another long extension
last year so you'd like to think that
that's all going to be fine but what's
gonna when these when the Big Ten and
the SEC have so much more money than
everybody else now they can turn their
attention to all of these other sports
you've already seen it men's basketball
I mean what the SEC has done in men's
basketball how many transfers the high
profile transfers now are going to the
SEC the high profile coaches are going
to the SEC
so again it's not just about trying to
keep up from an image standpoint or hey
we want to have as much much money as
they do practically it will be
impossible to compete in all of these
Sports if those conferences have way
more way much more money than uh your
company but but let's look at it from
the sport that matters and look I know
people watching the show and the three
of us would be upset if Lonnie left but
it's softball what matters is football
and use it let's say in 2026 Florida
because it by then right Ira won't the
TV Revenue Gap be right like right now
between the SEC and the ACC the gap's
about 10 million per year per school
right it'll be 30 million by then right
probably somewhere in that neighborhood
yes what if Florida just wants Mike
Norvell and they're gonna they they will
have the money to pay him 13 million
dollars a year if they want because it's
going to be stupid money you can't
compete with that and that to me is the
real issue it I mean the real issue is
all of that and all of that matters all
the other sports matter too but for
Florida State's sake being competitive
in football is what made the is one of
the big reasons this University became
this University it was the best program
in the country for four decades and now
Florida get Florida are whoever
Vanderbilt Ole Miss like what has Ole
Miss ever done that they should be able
to pay twice as much for their coaches
you can but that will be the reality in
four or five years if something doesn't
change and I think that's why Florida
State fans there's so much consternation
among Florida State fans and that's why
it's good I think for them to see that
offer knows what's coming down the road
and this isn't going to be tenable like
we all said in the round table the way
it's going right now just isn't tenable
for to compete on a national stage in
football as well as all the other sports
that you're going to get
I agree with you on football I'm just
saying the the I think most people
believe that the school like Florida
State and I think Jeff said it in his
answer they're going to put his main
resources as they have to into football
like they're going to cut everything
else yeah everybody else to make sure
that they can stay competitive in
football so that sucks I mean I get what
you're saying I'm just saying that
that's awful that you'd be put in that
spot where you know you're going to have
to send 90 of your athletic Revenue will
go to football in the rest of the sports
because they in the grand scheme of what
matters and money don't matter and so
that will be that will be a real bummer
but I also worry about just football
like I think
you know if you don't get out of this
thing until 2036 good grief man you're
going to be so far behind you won't even
be in the race no you wouldn't be but
here's the reason I brought it up again
because now you have an actual story
involving a power five conference and
we're watching it get dissolved these
teams are gonna get picked off by the
Big 12 and others it's about to happen
we know this is going to happen and you
want that kind of noise in the system
because perhaps it will expedite Florida
State and Clemson's exit because people
will continue to build on their
conference whatever it is Big Ten SEC
adding Big 12 is going to attempt to do
it too what I'm saying is we're watching
this dissolve right before our eyes and
it's not going to stop there and any of
these conferences that are at a 30
million dollar disadvantage if not more
I have zero chance to compete Michael
Alford was right at that Board of
Trustees meeting when he said it you all
know it it's logical and when I hear
that and I'm just looking at the
pushback within the ACC and Ira you got
to hear it up close and personal from
those that cover other programs and
that's fine they can and whine and
think we're arrogant that was the word
used a lot yesterday when I when I did
an interview on Sirius well it's
arrogant in Florida State to think that
they should be able after they've done
what they've done over the last 64 games
played now get the hell out of here it's
not arrogant this is you're fighting for
your life and of course they're going to
do that they they matter in the big
scheme of things in college football
weight doesn't NC State doesn't North
Carolina doesn't and none of them have
right none of them have it matters and
they care they've antied up that stadium
is the way it is now because they cared
about football and went all in look what
they've put their money in they can't
sit idly by they oughta they ought
to be a pain in the ass they ought to be
the reason that other teams in this
conference are really annoyed don't stop
yelling and I was talking when I was
talking to um Fred McMurphy over there
at Amelia Island also Mark long from the
AP and a couple other people and
somebody made the comment I think it's
what is the Action Network Ira what is
that is that a website or Sports
gambling yeah oh okay all right okay so
he and uh what's his name Revell provide
content to kind of
but uh but we were talking and somebody
made the point it might have been Brett
but it was a good point that nobody
everybody wants to make sure they're not
the last conference right so that's why
like when the ACC raided the Big East
yeah it was to make sure that hey if
somebody's gonna be last it's gonna be
you guys it's not going to be chairs
it's not gonna be us yeah and then the
Big East ends up getting kind of poached
and falters and falls apart now you look
at the Pac-12 they're next up where they
were destabilized they lost USC they
lost you to CLA Washington and Oregon
are trying to get out they don't have a
TV deal who's going to sign a TV deal
when you don't know who's going to be in
the freaking League they're done man so
now they're the one that everybody's
gonna go after to poach the Big 12 is
interesting man because they have a
commissioner that is active and
aggressive so that's one to watch like
the ACC is trying to do whatever they
can do to survive but I do think the Big
12 is is
you know that guy's pretty aggressive
he's business-minded and uh it'll be
they're they're I don't know that I
would assume that they're going to fall
apart
I'm curious to see what happens with
them uh but the Big Ten in the SEC
obviously they've kind of run away with
it the question is who who's going to be
the next to go after the Pac-12 after
the Pac-12 is the ACC going to be next
to go or is the Big 12 going to be the
next to go how is we kind of continue
consolidating this power well and I
think what bothers what bothers all of
us really but people like Jeff and in
Florida State fans in general in people
like you are I'm sure when you're in
Amelia Island listening to North
Carolina reporters who frankly don't
know what they're talking about when it
comes to college football because it's
never mattered in that state it just
doesn't Florida State fans care in the
Florida state Administration cares more
about football than anybody else in the
ACC ever has with the exception of
Clemson Clemson cares too I'm not
disputing that but so yeah if NC State
doesn't get 60 million they've never
competed with George in Alabama they've
never wanted to they've never tried to
be on par with Ohio State they've never
once in the history of that program been
a better program than Ohio State Florida
state was a better program for than Ohio
State for three decades so now you're
now it's it's hard to stomach as a
Florida State fan or somebody that
covered them or grew up watching them
then all of a sudden these North
Carolina schools are going to bring up
the last five years NC States never
mattered it never will so what do they
care if they get an extra 30 million
dollars they're still going to be NC
State Florida State can compete on a
national stage if they're in the right
conference they're competing now but in
2028 if they're 30 million dollars
behind they might not be able to and
that will bother Florida State fans
whereas NC State is used to always being
just kind of marginal at football wake
is used to it North Carolina is used to
it Virginia is used to it Florida state
is not
again if you Endeavor to matter in this
sport that drives the financial bus then
you have to get the hell out of here
there is no future for the ACC there is
none and they can talk about well we can
work on this and it's a Band-Aid for
them and that and that wouldn't have
been different if Florida state had been
great in the last six years of course
not you still have those other
ridiculous schools those other schools
never I mean half of them for a long
time had a track around their football
field it was a bunch of children it
doesn't matter and listen what I've
liked Florida State to have been a lot
better in the last five years in
football well hell yes I would have it
sucked watching this team go out there
and be asked sorry but there obviously
they continued to try to figure out
answers because they cared because they
cared and that extension was not signed
with Florida State sucking no deals of
that big run yo they did what they could
do yeah well it's 129 straight games won
the national championship and we're in
the first ever college football playoff
yes I mean they did everything they
could do it's now and they're about to
be really good again by the way and I
think everybody knows that too and they
were also the most watched football team
in the country oh and again with the
television Revenue when we were asked
that question in the round table how
should we divvy up and screw everybody
else it right now it is
one for all rats are fleeing the ship we
got it that's fine that's fine and and
it upsets people who are at other
schools or other programs or grew up in
different areas well you can be upset
fine be as proud as you want to be of
having graduated from North Carolina
State North Carolina Virginia Duke
wherever that's fine I'm not ripping you
as a person I'm not ripping your
education we are talking about football
we are only talking about football and
you don't matter in football and we do
and we care to continue to matter and
I'd like to think guys I'd like to think
that if lacrosse was the biggest sport
in the country we would stand out and be
like you know what North Carolina
deserves to go they deserve more money
than Florida state with all this
lacrosse money because apparently
they're the best lacrosse team in the
country so I I feel like I almost had
three of the top four in the final four
the ACC almost had three of the final
four teams singing from The Mountaintop
you see what I'm saying gang if only
lacrosse was taken off in this country
like we've been told it would for 20
years have become the the biggest sport
in this country quite hasn't happened
like that but if lacrosse was was the
sport that mattered and Drew all the
eyeballs and got 60 million dollars a
year Florida State fans would be like
you know what you're right North
Carolina Syracuse argument here guys
we're going to have to let him argue in
favor
holding it down for so long but it
doesn't sorry gang the sports that met
the sport that matters the most Florida
State and Clemson are by far the two and
put most important members of this
league and Florida state is the most
important because it gets the best
ratings it has for decades the last
minute here before we go to break and
then we come back with headliner
questions uh it is interesting to me
though and as we continue to watch
the Pac-12 begin to dissolve how
aggressive will the Big 12 be in trying
to pick off teams now is that League
falters because will it expedite all of
what we want to see happen anyhow which
is either the dissolvement of the ACC or
the SEC in the Big Ten and those
Networks
Fox ESPN deciding to be more aggressive
in moving around the chess pieces and
deciding well listen Okay this is an
asset we've got to have this asset and
our best league because that's gonna
long term be something we can charge
extra for household sets all that sort
of thing it does all of this with what's
happening in the Pac-12 I mean it's it's
crazy to think about they cannot find a
deal There's No Deal coming they're
screwed yeah and that's what I think if
when I was saying in the Big 12 is I
think there's a the best likelihood I
would see the short term is the Big 12
coaching the Pac-12 Pac-12 falls apart
and then now you've got these three
you've got four conferences but if they
want to go to the three of three
conferences of 20 which is one thing
that has been out there we've all
thought about the two big super
conferences there's another possibility
of three of twenty I wouldn't put my
money on the Big 12 being the third it's
looking like in these ACC schools kind
of getting spread apart but yeah man so
we'd get to go to Lubbock and no no
mannequin
Louisville would go to Lubbock right
right

[Laughter]
Orthodontics is where you need to go
all right so you know by the way and I I
kind of blew it because we got off to a
rocky start today uh I'll take
responsibility for that but let me let
me just say
I forgot that since we last all got
together the three of us together like
this
well yeah but it's celebrated and I know
celebrated it's a weird word for
journalists to use in this situation the
uh the Keon Coleman get buddy hmm screw
that was uh that was that was was it it
was while I was at Amelia Island right I
think it was Tuesday night Tuesday night
or Wednesday yeah
right right and I know Corey wrote about
it and I talked about it we did a video
about it and certainly you've mentioned
it as well I'm just saying man it's a
big thing to do Florida State it's now
like scary remember Ira wasn't even on
the show last week so it's Annie left
early the week before so it's been a
minute since the three of us were
together you could tell we didn't know
how to act that's why the rocky start
happened I almost walked out after the
first 10 minutes
people were questioning your commitment
to the program they wondered had there
been an impasse creative differences
because when you storm out of the room
in the middle of an episode two weeks
ago and you don't show up the following
week rumors get started Ira that's how
they start let's get started there's
nothing to worry about people I quelled
them I thought I quelled them pretty
well last week when people are uh were
asking all right I I'm glad he's here
today seems to be doing well once we
gather got our feet together we were
good to go once they got Keon Coleman
he's like all right I'll go back but yes
that was that was a very good it was a
very big pickup for the nulls very good
plan and there are going to be some
questions about Coleman in the chat okay
I noticed this on the and the Facebook
and the Twitter I'm like oh I forgot we
haven't really as a trio assessed that
pickup just yet uh Brandon oh writes
where would you rate sander Cox game in
all-time FSU Sports performances first
question that we got from Twitter
I was wondering I was gonna ask you
Corey what do you because there's a
threat on the tribal council uh saying
basically where it ranked all the time
and I was you guys have a much better
historical perspective than I do like
the buster one in that Regional stood
out to me because I mean I've been
covered in Florida State for 20 years
but I wasn't as invested as you guys
were before that yeah
I mean I don't think it goes like this
Jesse Warren's catch just in the
softball that's higher right it wasn't a
it wasn't a whole game performance but
one moment but also but doesn't the
stakes though matter more
like where where was Jesse Warren's
catch we had an Oklahoma City oh and
then game one of the you were there
it was game one of the championship
series you were what is the matter with
you all right
you were there it wasn't when the game
was on the line it was the seventh
inning of a one to nothing game and they
were trying to butter to Second and if
she Dives and doesn't get it it's first
and second nobody else Stand Down Ira
this is a more important play at fsu's
lore so did you think it was a a Monday
it was like a Sunday in April against
Louisville I thought it was like in a
regional or also I was out there yeah it
was Oklahoma City were you out there too
number one I was in a Chili's watching
it
but so Ira Ira's not the best person to
ask this question to clearly
I don't remember anything I would say
um when you think about the stakes so if
you just make it postseason or a game
that gets you to postseason I don't know
we can't I can't rank them I mean I
would put it below Charlie against
Florida in 93 I mean you know your pla
that got Florida State to a national
championship game we don't even know
where this softball team will end up and
so it's really hard to rank Duke
yeah I mean I would still I don't know
man I look and it's awesome that it was
a perfect game but there are a lot of
shutouts in softball it was it was it
was kind of cat sander being doing
what she always does which is being
awesome but I still don't know if I'd
put it above some of those other ones
yeah I I have a hard time with the tooth
the sub
ject
Regional talks
sub-regionals in 30 years
there's Subs supers World Series
that's how Chef's always lived his life
he's lived his life I walk around go
look at this sorry ass sub Regional out
here
doesn't mean a damn thing uh idiot and
if they had lost two years in a row in
the sub Regional I'd have been really
pissed when you broke into the business
Lee Bowen was like the sun this is a
sub-regional yeah yeah it's not a big
deal you're never you're never adapting
but it was awesome it was really it was
really it was really cool to see it was
a really awesome moment for a really
really good player it that that is
correct that's a good way of saying it
we do live in a time where we want to
exalt and Vault everything towards the
top of a list they're gonna have to do
it I like Corey being the voice of
reason in this topic it never happens
this is a guy anything as the greatest
moment in the history of humanity and
here he is like guys can we settle the
hell down we're bumping Cowans off of
Mount Rushmore cat sander Cox face is
going up after that performance Matthew
writes hello gentlemen thanks as always
for the great content week in and week
out after Keon Coleman committed I
texted a friend that our opponents will
need to score at least 28 points to even
have a shot of being in the game so
let's say the race is the 30 every week
I'm not super confident in our defense
this year but I'm less confident in our
scheduled opponents offenses and their
personnel is there anybody on our
schedule outside of LSU that you believe
is capable of scoring 30 plus points
against us this year yeah Clemson yeah
yeah and the problem with Clemson again
it's just again you're you're not you
don't know that your offense is going to
play that well up there A lot of times
teams don't
um
what's cool about the addition of
Coleman though I was thinking about this
before we started the show was that um
you know it it it lengthens that's
probably not the right word to use your
margin of error you don't have to be
even you don't have to have a even a a
minus game or a B plus game to win most
of these games because your offense
could and should overwhelm so many
defenses that
even if you don't play particularly well
on defense or maybe even Jordan Travis
isn't that sharp you still should be in
the mid 30s you you should go into every
game outside of two maybe Florida at the
end of the year we'll see what they are
but the two big ones in September every
other game you should go into that game
with it with 35 points somewhere in the
neighborhood 34 to 35 points even if you
don't play all that well that's how good
I think this offense will be and you
haven't had that in a while does that
make sense am I did I explain that well
probably yeah I mean there's no doubt
that's a big deal and I think the
defense is fine
um yeah but it only has to if you have a
top five offense in a top 25 defense
buddy that's a recipe to be playing on
New Year's well not New Year's whatever
they whenever the playoffs are now
December 19th who knows when they are
but that's a good recipe to have
yeah I I think the schedule is hugely
beneficial to Florida State I think I
agree with what we heard from uh Matthew
there in the question that most of the
teams are not capable of scoring 30 puts
but there's two teams right now that you
picked up probably a team that rises up
that we always say there's a team that's
going to be worse than we think they're
going to be and there's a team that'll
be better than we think they're going to
be that a third team out there where you
would maybe posit that they could score
30 but listen I again I think early on
against LSU and in the fourth game
against Clemson if Florida State's
defense is showing you that they can
stop the run which was a problem against
good teams last year it wasn't like
teams just lined up and chucked it all
over the lot the teams that really had
success throwing were teams that came
out running the ball successfully
Florida ran the ball really well
against Oklahoma ran the ball well early
against Florida and it was against the
defensive front that was pretty banged
up yeah and so we saw that year ago so
if you're a guy who has to be you know
in the camp of wait and see I get that
but there's real reason for Iris
confidence for example that the interior
the defensive line is going to be worlds
better just by being healthy and deeper
and I think that is true now I mean
there are other areas of concern but I I
feel pretty good about that and I do
think Florida State's going to boat race
a lot of teams on this schedule I know
this sounds cocky but you know listen
they blew out seven teams a year ago uh
before they had fully realized what
their offensive potential was and this
schedule kind of sets up for them to
blow out at least seven again at least
seven maybe more there's some games
where this gets into the Jordan Travis
Heisman talk how much he's going to play
in the second half of a lot of these
games I I don't know uh good day chance
writes Marlon I know everyone is in love
with the SEC especially since we are in
the South but if we were so if it was
solely about money and winning
championships the Big Ten could give us
more money wouldn't you choose them and
a much better shot at being in the
12-team playoff year in and year out
than say the SEC
I don't think it gives you that much
better a chance I mean if Florida St
Clemson joined the Big Ten well then
you're still playing Clemson every year
you might be playing Michigan and Ohio
State USC I mean that's a hard schedule
in itself and I wrote this in the in the
round table is I'm not supposed to say
that or am I supposed to pretend we all
sit there around a round table and talk
and it's like a transcript
okay all right um but we do sit around a
table and talk and then uh
um Langston transcribes it Gene a lot of
typing
um that if so I don't care if the Big
Ten gives Florida State an extra five or
seven million dollars it doesn't go into
our pocket and the experience for the
fans
is would be so much more benefit they
would love the SEC so much more that you
can you can say no thanks to an extra
five million dollars you would still be
very very competitive on a national
stage clearly if you're in the SEC and
your fans can get to the games and the
weather is better
yeah I don't think to me it's not a it's
not a trying to get every penny out of
wherever you can go it's about being
competitive can you be I'd be fine with
them staying in the ACC if they could
stay competitive financially they just
can't in fact I'd probably prefer it but
you can't so you got to pick one of
those other ones if you can get in there
and you know at that point if you're
choosing between the two yeah the SEC is
I think the obvious choice let me see I
want to dig down I don't think you'd
prefer it Ira I think you've been away
from the SDC so long that you don't
remember what it's like to go into those
stadiums like I know you you don't love
snuggy Hill you don't love Boston
College I mean imagine instead of going
to Boston College you're going Ole Miss
are you getting old cowbells well here's
the thing man like that that's cool
enough but it's also cool to go to cool
cities like starfield's not all that
great Corey what how dare you how dare
you I'm not trying to install our new
overlords take us on the show already
all I'm saying is I think they're the
because I can't speak out of both sides
of my mouth when when Jimbo is leaving
and he kind of trash forward to stay on
the way out one of the things I said was
man you did you never resp you never
appreciated the fact that you had the
talent base in Florida and you got to
play in the ACC yeah and I think there's
a benefit to that there's a competitive
Advantage oh absolutely what he's facing
in the SEC so you know I could see where
it makes sense to stay in the AC if you
could you just can't financially I just
like as college football fans we all all
are it's just so much more fun to go
into a full stadium with fans that care
where there's not a fair right next door
and people are leaving at halftime or
don't know what the score is that's what
that's what's always bothered me the
most I guess about the ACC
uh afternoon gents writes Walter
registers sausage dogs with peppers and
onions at the flex this Thursday and
Friday night can any of you name another
null other than kepka that has had a
sander performance thanks Corey
like cat did on Sunday
yeah I called his performance sander
cockian on wake up war chant because I
wanted to be the first and only podcast
that would compare Brooks's performance
to a college softball players
um no man he's by far asinger won what
two did azinger win two majors I think
azinger won one major
uh Hubert green one too somebody won two
somebody in the annals one two but uh no
man and it's really look I don't know
what kind of dude Brooks kepke is I
don't know anything about the guy but I
thought he was done playing golf at a
competitive level I think he might have
thought he was done and it's really cool
to see somebody battle back like that
and become arguably the best player in
the world again out of when when he
almost it seemed like he was ready to
almost
never be competitive again that's a cool
story and it happened quickly
yeah I think that story is always
universally cool if it's a comeback
story it's a comeback story yeah my
significant injury and they get back to
the top it is uh at Irish fell Tom
writes directly to you not not us not us
it's not you buddy okay have you ever
seen a coach that invests and genuinely
cares for the success of his peers at
his school in other sports the way that
coach Norvell does
that's a good question and the reason
he's asking that I think is because
Norvell has been so active not just on
social media yeah but man he's sitting
out there in those softball games it
ain't just like to stop by and wave he
sits at the softball games there's also
a couple of cool moments I thought um
during basketball season seeing him and
his wife and daughter at uh the women's
basketball games and then also
there's a couple times where like you'd
see him go reach out to like other
coaches like he's he seeks out times to
go talk to Leonard Hamilton or to talk
to link Jared or whoever the coaches are
uh Brian Penske the soccer coach I mean
it is uh again man it's not the reason
you want Mike Norvell to be your head
coach it's not one of the top 20 reasons
you want any head football coach you
want them to win games primarily but if
he can win games and then also have that
kind of those relationships it's a nice
little cherry on top and he is he is
sincerely interested in all these other
teams at a level yeah more than any
football coach we've seen I mean coach
Bowden was sweet man and everybody left
coach Bowden but he wasn't going hanging
out at a softball Regional you could go
play golf yeah and what it does is I
think it just speaks to a bigger thing
that people also enjoy and that is that
somebody cares about the University from
which they work
you know I I think that's the big thing
uh for whom they work I mean I I you as
a fan or an alumnus or a supporter of
any kind booster whatever it might be
it's refreshing because it can't see a
lot of it yeah and you care deeply about
the Guard we're using FSU in this
example obviously you care deeply about
the garnet in Gold it's nice to see that
your football coach who's getting paid
six seven eight million dollars a year
also seems to care about how the other
programs are doing and I think it's
genuine or else you would people
wouldn't gravitate toward as much I've
heard well I've heard a lot of people
make mention of this that Mike seems to
be genuinely invested in other programs
he was definitely invested I was out
there on Saturday and he was uh he was
on the whatever that overhang is by the
by the with the platform with the VIP
people and Cat Center got out of a jam I
guess on Saturday in that interminable
game against UCF and he legitimately
stood up and goes you yelled loudly way
to go cap like loudly like yeah like he
does on prac on the practice field when
he's yelling at somebody to run the
right route it was that same energy so I
I don't think it's just for show and by
the way still a drop dead handsome
good-looking dude when you see him in
person cool thanks for sure Stephanie is
uh happy you brought that up
uh quickly we had a question in the chat
I'm trying to now I'm doing a trio all
right now I'm I'm really I'm Circle I'm
circling around I go Facebook Twitter
check the chat Facebook Twitter check
the chat back to Twitter Facebook check
the channel
this is what I'm doing here I'm trying
to hold it down after a shaky start we
got out of the bases loaded Jam earlier
I'm not sure we got out of it I think a
few runs scored oh we've rallied back
and uh and Wendy wants to know that some
people say the SEC doesn't want us do
you think that is at all true
I think there's there is a there was a
reality to that definitely 10 years ago
I don't think Florida wants us but yeah
tough luck buddy yeah and I would say
two things change so 10 years ago then
that has been the mentality for a long
time and you know 10 years ago that was
the talk that the SEC has no interest
because Florida's not going to let you
in just like South Carolina wouldn't
want Clemson in yeah the two things that
have changed is one what they did to
Texas A M by bringing in Texas and
basically saying screw you Texas A M and
I'm over we don't care I do it we're
bringing in Texas yeah that happened and
then the other thing is that the
pressure from the Big Ten yeah and the
idea that hey would you say you know how
people say they they're
what is this stupid saying about I get
madder when I lose and I get happier
when I when I win like I I hate losing
more than I like winning I I think I got
it right
maybe the SEC doesn't want Florida state
that much but they really don't want the
Big Ten to happen right so that's that
could be the driving force they wanna
they want the Big Ten not to have
Florida State maybe more than they need
Florida State but they really don't want
the Big Ten to get Florida State and
Clemson because yeah you talk about a
playing field getting leveled real quick
that does it
and just the kind of the explain kind of
a little bit deeper and the reason for
that and the reason where Florida
doesn't want Florida State in and why
some of the schools wouldn't want they
already have the the two things you
really want when you have a school when
you expand a conference is you want to
go into an area where you can get more
money for television rights in an area
where we can get better recruiting
access so if Florida if Florida is
already in the state they're already in
the SEC the perception is you don't need
Florida State you already have the TV
sets you already have the recruiting
base
so you know whereas a Virginia might be
more attractive or North Carolina might
be more attractive well you don't have
those two things but where things are
different now is you don't want the the
SEC schools don't want the big 10 come
in here either because now if Florida
State were to go to the Big Ten now
those schools would have access to the
TV sets in the recruiting base that
right now they don't have so if you
could monopolize it by getting Florida
State now the Big Ten at Florida State
went with the SEC the Big Ten would
definitely be more interested in Miami
at that point because that would get
them in the state so that part of it is
is going to be there's some jousting
going on it's a fascinating idea that
the Big Ten could be in Los Angeles and
Miami yeah yeah good Lord and would have
20 schools in it and still call itself
the big deal and I think we're just
moving in that direction and that we're
sitting here watching the Pac-12 Fall by
the wayside all of it does kind of make
you sad
I mean it's hard not to be kind of sad
at where college football is going but
you also can't be in denial as to where
it's going Sean writes I was born in
late 1977 which means that every year
I've been on the planet FSU baseball has
made the postseason if you're 45 years
or younger you can also State and make
that boast I think that Demands a moment
of pause to appreciate the length of
that Excellence also to appreciate how
fortunate we've been as FSU baseball
fans to have enjoyed the kind of success
that we have for as long as we have
brighter days are ahead see you in Omaha
one day soon I promise Elite head
aligner Sean it's not a question but it
is an observation hey what a finish to
the season though gang yeah they did I
mean they did continue to play hard I
mean they bought into Lynx messaging at
least I mean that's a philosopher all
Louisville had to do was win two out of
three against the worst team in the
conference and they got they would have
gotten to the ACC tournament and they
couldn't do it over the last it is a
weird you know somebody texted me
yesterday and they were like so
baseball's just done done like they're
yeah
how it works man you uh Chris points out
though before we break that FSU baseball
may have missed the postseason for the
first time in 45 years but they did win
the last game that they played in a
season for the first time and that's why
link was hired link was hired to win
that last game and he's did it baby he's
already done it his first he's not
getting a bonus I mean maybe he had that
in his contract he won your last game
you get 100 Grand on the links boozing
it up with his extra money yeah civil

chauffeur and Corey Clark let's keep it
rolling Michael writes I've seen a
couple articles saying Norvell is now
King of the portal my question is what
do they mean by now seems like he's been
the king for a while is it the national
media just waking up or is Jermaine
Johnson a figment of my imagination no I
I think most have recognized that that
Mike is Elite but uh there are others
that uh do a good job in the portal as
well but I think I think Mike is most
consistently won uh that title well and
as good as Jermaine was right they went
five and seven so you can't really
you pronounce yourself the king of
anything if your team doesn't have a
winning record doesn't go to a bowl now
it's he's hitting in the portal at a
really high rate and they're a very good
football team
Jason wants to know can JT and will JT
throw for 4 000 yards this season
uh and he and he gets into some of these
games and Champion ACC Championship Game
bowl game assuming 14 games all of that
yeah he could but I don't know that he
will yeah I actually just wrote a story
there's a story on warchant.com about
looking at norvell's quarterbacks the
longer they're in his system and really
every quarterback he's had and it stands
the reason you get better as you get
older and more experienced but it's
really remarkable when you look at the
quarterbacks going back to this Arizona
State days and certainly in Memphis from
year one to year two they make a big
jump and this is kind of like year two
and a half this is like year one and a
half for Jordan you know he didn't start
all of the year before he started eight
games split times with McKenzie even
when he was starting some of those games
McKenzie ended up coming in so Jordan
didn't finish them
last year was really his first full
years of starter I think you may see
another jump for him and I think we saw
signs that in the spring I thought he
looked better in the spring than he did
at any point the whole year before
he threw for 3 200 yards last year
obviously that didn't include a
championship game if they get there he
also missed a half of football against
well he missed more than a half because
they were beating so team so badly
bought a hat for half the second half of
those blowouts yeah so Syracuse he threw
for 155. uh Louisiana Lafayette or I
guess is it just Louisiana now is that
what we're saying sorry uh 112 yards you
know that he threw for 181 against NC
State which they could have used more
there but like uh 202 against Miami on
10 completions he only threw he only
completed 10 passes against Miami it
only completed nine against uh Louisiana
obviously I think if you have a player
that's in the Heisman hunt you're
probably going to give him a few more
bats than 10. uh and he's going to throw
for more than 100 yards in but they're
going to blow a lot of teams out yeah
they're going to run the football very
effectively I just think that's what
will happen he could get there though
it's not out of the realm to think he
could he could average another whatever
that would be
50 or 60 extra yards a game I think they
could maybe do that I'd love for
defenses to stock up against the run and
then he gets one-on-one yeah then he
could light it up but it just depends on
what defenses want to take away Marty
writes hey fellas what is uh what is
first half of FSU football that is oh
what's the first half of FSU football
that has made you the most frustrated he
writes two come to mind for me the first
half in the 2016 Ole Miss game give up
28 points Dalvin fumbles out of bounds
then last year the second half against
NC State where we could not get anything
going I appreciate you all Corey I'm
gonna I'm gonna go first here because I
have a feeling you're gonna jump on this
as well maybe the same game the 95
Virginia game on the road where we just
decided to throw the ball uh a hundred
times as far as we could throw it yeah
it's the zip Fountain special offense
over and over and over again and we'll
remember that that team didn't have a
really good running back so they were
forced to throw it they were forced to
throw it yeah so it was so aggravating
then in the second half we run the ball
and work done's going nuts and uh you're
like hey imagine wouldn't be in a
position where you're about to lose a
football game for the first time ever in
this conference if you just bother to
have some balance in the first half so
that that he threw uh I remember it he
was I think he would I know he threw 68
passes Canal did I think he was 33 of
68. Imagine a game with 35 in
completions in your five you're four
where are you one inch away from winning
the game anyway yeah you want him out
and they haven't even worked on the play
where you the receiver that's the past
down like that wasn't even part of the
auction they say that for Virginia like
whatever that was 16 years later
Virginia had no idea that was coming I
would still say the probably the most
frustrating happened I think many people
watching and listening to this would
agree is 2012 second half against NC
State that was gonna be mine all-time
frustrating half the one last year
against NC State the second half last
year against NC State is right up there
with it but holy moly that one I think
early on in the second half you're like
okay man there's a chance they're gonna
blow this freaking game and then by the
fourth quarter and then into the point
I'm like okay they're gonna lose this
game all-time frustration uh Anthony
Ira go
Jonathan wants to know what's the deal
yeah so uh Mike Norvell it's not
official yet but uh on three Matthews
one of the national reporters for on3
reported that uh Mike Norvell is going
to bring in Anthony in an off the
field role again this is just one of
those you know hires that they make
whereas you only get to have 10
assistant coaches they can actually
coach on the field but a lot of schools
are building up their support staff
Florida State's done that you know
they've run in Corey Fuller they brought
in several scouting analysts they've had
they've got several analysts on both
sides of the ball this is another one on
the defensive side of the ball a guy
that played in the NFL has coached in
the NFL he was a position coach coaching
the secondary for the last four or five
years in the NFL so it's a nice guy to
have it and also it's a nice position
where if maybe two years down the road
if you if you lose another assistant
coach maybe you move him to on the field
so looks like a really smart hire by
Mike Orville
I thought that was thorough and I knew
you'd go there all right well done by
the way the women's golf team lost to
Wake Forest didn't matter because they
missed a three-foot putt that would have
won then they lost an extra holes it's
uh not cool I would like if uh one of
the golf programs that's been very good
for a number of years would go ahead and
uh win one of these things it's allowed
the men have a chance let's go Trey come
on now skill rights I don't think enough
is being said about ESPN and the ACC if
the ACC dissolves then so too with the
ACC Network you all touched on it a
little bit but it would not surprise me
to see us in the Big Ten ESPN will be so
pissed at us for dissolving their crappy
Network well you know what I I I don't
know man I think we should look at this
in another way
um ESPN's probably controlling that
conversation as opposed to FSU
yeah I mean who's pulling the strings
here FSU or ESPN
yeah well I mean it depends on where
they go I mean ESPN would not want FSU
to go to the Big Ten
um correct and then you know they did
and that's one of the things that you
know John Swafford will talk about all
the time and Jim Phillips talks about is
the fact that the ESPN is a partner
they're a 50 50 partner in the ACC
Network and that's yeah okay fine except
for the fact that and I asked Jim
Phillips this last week I said you talk
about them as being Partners but they're
actively playing they're actively paying
other conferences more money a whole lot
more money yeah man and I'm not saying
that the ACC schools deserve as much but
I am saying that if you're investing in
the this league and you it matters to
you how this league does you have to
understand that this league is going to
be crippled by the disparity in the in
the in the payout I came up with a great
oh go ahead Jeff sorry really quick
sorry on that point
doesn't it sound like you know how
people get brainwashed and then they
just regurgitate the thing that they
were told to say over and over and over
again
I feel like that response every time I
hear it is what they were told when they
were putting the network together we are
Partners in this we are so glad to
partner with you
50 50 Partnerships this is where it
should be and that they were reminded
that they were 50 50 Partners repeatedly
as they had growing concerns with
overwhelming evidence all around them
that that partnership wasn't going to
get them a hill of beans it was going to
lead to a whole bunch of ass kickers
what's it matter if we're 50 50 Partners
in broke and go to hell with that 50 50
part of nonsense I'm dissolving my 50
you can suck it I'm out and they and
they're all no but we're 50 50 Partners
as if that's a thing that Matt go to
hell amen Amen brother so I was thinking
don't they do these looking things Ira
you know more about that stuff well
here's the deal so they were supposed to
be lookins there was at least one look
in I know from when John Thrasher gave
me the date
um of one and I think they I think ESPN
looked in and was like oh it looks good
to us because I don't think and I asked
Jim Phillips last week I said are there
any more look-ins where they might
reevaluate that and he said uh not in
the immediate future great I think they
have looked in and they've said okay it
looks good to us so when I think if you
could somehow finagle away where you you
convinced Jim Phillips look we want to
stay in the ACC just like Alfred said
after the meetings like we love it here
we want to stay forever
um you convince them you want to stay
but we have to restructure this contract
get us out of this contract and we
promise we'll stay but you have to get
as closer to the SEC in Big Ten and then
as soon as they dissolve the grant of
rights to renegotiate the new contract
that's when you bounce to the Big Ten
say sorry we were kidding like remember
when Carlos Boozer did that in free
agency he was he had one more year left
on his deal with the Cavaliers and the
Cavaliers were like look we'll make you
a restricted free agent because Boozer
was like look I'll sign with you all
tomorrow for six years and 40 million
dollars I just read up on this for six
years and 40 million dollars if y'all
restructure my contracts I don't know if
you get 700 000. and like okay yeah sure
so they made him a restricted free agent
the next day the Jazz sign him for six
years and 70 million
it's awesome though what a great move
for Carlos Boozer it's 30 million
dollars but he told them apparently he
told them yeah man I promise I'm not
going anywhere just restructure my deal
yeah just make me a restricted free
agent and I'll sign this is an image of
Alfred running down the hallway of the
Ritz Carlton going I pulled the Boozer
they fell for him he's a Duke guy how
would the irony
uh Jake wants to know which Reserve
linebacker will have the most impact in
2023
I'm excited about uh Omar but I think DJ
Lundy's I'm kind of excited about Omar
Graham uh FSU plays rights when you
started this show in 2010 did you ever
expect it to last this long didn't
we
um how quickly did you realize the show
was a hit and what's the most
frustrating part with working with a
diva like Corey Clark we can start there
oh yeah that'd be the rest of the show
no it's not frustrating we just let him
do it and we just let everybody laugh
yup hey Corey's from his Corey's not in
town again guess we have to look at a
screen as far as uh when we started the
show I don't know none of us envisioned
how long it was going to last but we I
think we just all liked it like we like
doing it and then we would hear from
people that you know and it was funny we
were at uh Aslan now worth of softball
uh tournament this weekend and the young
a guy came up to us and said he's in his
40s now I think he says 40s I'm going to
age you buddy but he said he grew up
listening to it and aslan's like come on
man you didn't grow up listening to but
he was but he's from Tallahassee he's
listened to it for a long time yeah he
grew up listening to you Jeff well I
hope you I hope my man's not 29 years
old and you just mistook him for in his
40s he might have been in his 30s hey I
don't listen so good I don't remember
that I saw Jessica Warren make the
greatest crazy do you remember the
Kelvin Benjamin catch Ira were you I
think did he play it officially yeah you
know when we won the National
Championship in 2013 it was an amazing
moment yeah you were there Ira that was
not against Duke in October yeah the bus
ride over the stadium was incredible
remember yeah you remember that one and
Corey and I sat next to each other
remember that course yeah we did yeah
and then I uh I was on the show the next
day for a little bit because you were
broadcasting from the hallway oh Better
Days
when we started the show uh this show
you know Iron Jeff had had a 10-year
relationship or whatever been because
you've been coming on his show forever I
had probably hung out with you Jeff I
would guess twice before we started the
show like I didn't and I'd been here for
a couple of years I'd run into you a
couple of times and we I think we went
to like a dinner with Bob Thomas one
time but I think yeah but I think I'd
hung out with you two or three times
total and then now uh you know you're
gonna be the best man at my wedding
sorry Ira you're gonna be the ring
bearer I just said about being invited
so all I remember is that and I'm
arrogant about radio because I know I'm
very good at it so I remember thinking
this is a good show so it was over once
I'd thought that I knew it was a good
show I was right and that was the end of
it we were going to continue to do that
show and once we got Jim Lamar's
coughing ass out of the studio hey come
on destined for greatness and I say it
with all the love in the world Jim Lamar
who's coughing Somewhere listening to
the program right now Jim AMR changed my
life

uh oh I'm sorry I hit the wrong button
come on man Warriors are at uh the
Yankees starting tonight
they need to the last series didn't go
that well
Braves lost the Dodgers last night Corey
they did Freddie Freeman hit a three-run
homer and had two other hits that's
always fun to see and he uh used to play
for you guys he did Ira thanks for
bringing that up it's fine he luckily
he's fallen off a cliff since he left he
can't he's he barely hits the ball
anymore
will be our best wide receiver next year
that's from Matt
I I don't think so I thought I'm still
Johnny still my guy what year is Keon
how how was was that red shirt I think
he has two years but was he a red shirt
freshman last year I believe so but
either way that was his first year of
really competing like at that level
the the point I'm trying to make is he
did all that
players get better he might be like a we
have no idea we haven't seen him but
he's obviously shouldn't improve from
year one to year two just like you think
Johnny will improve and get better but
but if those if both those guys take
another step
come on man you might have other than
whoever Marvin Harrison Jr's partner is
out there you might have the best wider
one two wide receiver duo in the country
or close to it I mean that guy's a real
good player with Jaheim yeah and Trey
and that's why and I think that's that
guy we didn't talk too much about Kim
Coleman before but I do think What's
significant about them getting him is I
think the attraction of this Florida
State offense with Mike Norvell calling
the plays Jordan Travis and quarterback
these other weapons I think is how you
get a Keon Coleman it's a huge I mean
it's a huge huge deal I think uh I'm
gonna continue to repeat over and over
and over again that the addition of Cam
Coleman to an already fairly prolific
offense just a year ago with an added
you know threat on the other side of
Johnny Wilson to go along with those
tight ends with the depth of town on the
offensive line the talent running back
and obviously what we've seen Jordan
Travis Advance his career to now where
he's a sure thing means that four state
will have a top five offense in the
country period and there will be
prolific numbers from week to week put
up by somebody within this offense what
we do know is that it changes you know
they never ran the same exact scheme
week to week last year some teams they
knew they could exploit just running a
freaking counter see Miami I mean they
could just do whatever they wanted over
and over and over again other teams they
knew they had to throw the ball in order
to open things up in the Run game I
think they're going to be able to
exploit defenses any way those teams
want to play it and I think it's a
nightmare if you're facing Florida State
next year if you're a defense and then
posing defensive coordinator I'd hate
that matchup because if all else fails
in place breakdown the quarterback's
going to run for 27 yards and get down
and it's First and Ten real quick just
want to give a shout out Darren Hill in
the chat I think he might be behind on
the live show but he threw out there the
uh for for the worst tasks or most
frustrating half 2019 versus Boise State
that's up there that second oh the
second half absolutely I mean yeah you
know hotter than Hades I was sitting in
the stands for that one well yeah
remember the team got dehydrated and
that was so frustrating yeah but it
wasn't because
it was so frustrating because not only
did you know not only because it was
you're losing that game but I think if
you if you had any doubt about how it
was going to end with that regime that
probably the pain oh that was so bad
over and over they made that kid looked
like he was the next coming of James the
quarterback yeah he went on to be
average in his career but boy they
walked out of there thinking he was
Jesus that was awful so I've heard you
talk about this is uh Panama Knoll could
you talk about conference realignment
but if you had to create your own 10 to
14 team conference with any current ACC
uh Pac-12 or Big 12 team
who would it be what would it look like
hmm
so I'm going to take a big 12 team I'm
gonna take a Pac-12 team and then put
together the rest so what we're doing
here I mean I can take as many as you
want from the Pac-12 I want Arizona
State
I just lost Washington Oregon I'd like
to go play uh if Utah in Stanford Utah
Colorado get an invite no
no I mean that's a nice place no they're
not coming they're not coming Utah
barely gets in because they're uh well
it's like a dry state right like you
can't even drink caffeine there they
also continue to win the damn conference
I know I would say ACC it's it's uh
Clemson Miami
probably North Carolina the Wake punt
them into the sun you never have or want
to play them again by Tech no yeah sure
well you don't think so it's a cool
tradition they think Metallica before
the game and everybody hops around
uh Big 12 anybody from the big 12.
current version well Oklahoma's there
one more year so I'd take Oklahoma yeah
that's a cow that's a technicality come
on it's not the spirit of the question
uh so what remains of the Big 12 I think
TCU yeah
I don't even know I'd do that I would I
take DCU Oklahoma State
nah I'm not going out to those cow pokes
yeah UCF nope
what about what about would you take
like so if we're projecting markets and
size and all that do you take a Houston
do you take a Baler do you think you
know I mean no way with Baylor no chance
with Baylor Houston
maybe you could talk me into Houston or
maybe TCU because of the markets right
um Baylor no chance Texas Tech no chance
Kansas State none you don't want to go
to Waco and hang out no no it's always
I don't know why it's like something
happened like in my childhood that made
Waco kind of this weird place in my mind
and it's always stayed that way you
don't know why I can't I can't put a
finger on it also 7 000 degrees and it
would be that'd be a tough it's a tough
one that you could you could come up
with a competitive Florida State and
Clemson and Oregon and Washington
Arizona State that's not bad and I like
Virginia Tech more than Jeff does I
think I do too yeah I'm on Virginia no
no no no no no hold on I like Virginia
Tech just fine you're always trying to
kick them out well they don't do
anything for you they're in a sorry
market they don't win they're garbage
but the fans the fans show I love that
they care and I've been on that campus
and had a game there but it's just
I don't that's where you were behind the
uh Rhys Davis saying sucking Clemson
yeah that's right blew up that night it
was crazy uh Rob writes gentlemen happy
Tuesday to you I've seen so many
journalists and pundits alike either a
Snidely questioned Florida State's
position to challenge the ACC grant of
rights or B clearly clearly lampooning
Florida State's chances of doing
anything to free itself out from the
fourth place muck that we've grown so
fat and happy living in question what
retribution off the field should be
visited upon these arrogant myopic
naysayers
well I haven't had a chance to exert his
authority just recently over there in
the fine setting that is Amelia Island
you know do you think David Hale out and
slap him in the face I did not over a
drink but you know here's the thing like
two things one is I get the jokes like I
get I I get the idea that when you're
not having success it comes across as
weird that you're demanding more money I
get that on the face value but it's just
like not very intellectually
accurate to not consider the fact of
what you bring as a brand that that part
of it is relevant and it's like they
don't even acknowledge it what Wake
Forest does on the field doesn't
freaking matter because they're Wake
Forest let me look into the camera and
tell you they're awake for us they could
go 11-1 and it doesn't matter they're
not going to bring in more money to this
conference so stop saying that I just
wish they would stop saying this
which is soon
let's go in there like a gang let's go
in there ready to do some damage guys
let's go in there Corey it's an
opportunity for you to wear a shirt in
which you unbuttoned it down to your
navel which you I was thinking just a
vest like a vest and nothing else like a
leather vest or something we're not the
Village People
you've been trying to get attention
that's why I lift all them weights it's
so I can wear assless chaps to ACC media
days hey if you wear the assless chaps
we'll let you lead if you go right into
that beautiful hotel across the street
from Bank of America I mean I would
dress like that before I wore there's no
way obviously clearly I would not do
that but I would I would dress up I
would love to dress up we could dress up
like Reservoir Dogs and send them to
your friends but I'm with Ira man like I
get sick and tired of hearing that
Florida State should just like their
role as if the ACC Network wasn't
created on the back of Florida State
right and even then like people make
this argument like well what's Florida
State done the last four or five years
Florida state was the best program in
the country and they couldn't get a
network in this stupid conference so
don't act like Florida State's success
on the field means anything I've got to
wear the assless chaps now I talked
myself into it and with that I'm cutting
your mic we love you goodbye that is the
end of Corey talking for today for I'm
Jeff thank you director Matthew be well
everybody we'll talk to you next time
peace
feel overwhelming especially if it's
your first home you're worried about
location school zones square footage
