Everyone's excited for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, though most of us are resigned to it being a love-hate experience. It's been 42 years since Raiders of the Lost Ark, and even bad Indy films are still Indy... so there's a chance it might defy grim expectations. The trailers seem to suggest that Indiana is made a doddering old fool by his goddaughter Helena -- that's its own problem -- but they also show how wrong Disney and Helena are about capitalism.
In a quip that would garner tens of thousands of upvotes on Reddit, Helena conflates stealing with capitalism. By completely ignoring how capitalism depends on sustained, mutually-beneficial transactions, what Helena really describes is closer to... well, one of the *other* systems.

Disney has just
spent $300 million
to get everything wrong
about
Indiana Jones.
But in “The Dial
of Destiny”
the worst
offense is
one Disney
is most proud of.
You stole it.
Then you stole it.
And then I stole it.
It's called
capitalism.
No, Helena,
that's not capitalism.
That's just theft.
But congratulations!
You've made
Reddit and Tumblr
very proud today.
Capitalism isn't
about theft
or exploitation.
At its core,
two parties
are exchanging
something
for mutually
beneficial value.
Both sides
have to get
a little bit
happier
from the trade
or the arrangement
is not going
to last.
Look, Helena
is clearly witty
and it's a great quip
for a trailer.
But even
the filmmakers
describe her
as slippery
and a grifter.
Because she is,
and it's meant
to be roguish charm.
But Helena,
what's the term
for a system
that takes
what it wants
whenever it wants
from whomever
it wants,
regardless of who
that affects?
Maybe we'll
find out in
“Helena Jones and the
Bread Line of Doom.”
