horror still stands as one of the most
unpredictable genres in the medium when
entering this territory very few
characters are completely safe whether
they were torn apart by monsters killed
off or met a premature end at the hands
of other characters these are the 10
most shocking and unexpected deaths in
horror TV be warned as there are massive
spoilers ahead for every series on this
list and with that in mind I'm Ellie
with what culture here with the 10 most
unexpected horror TV deaths number 10.
Bob in stranger things 2. starting off
this list is stranger things as arguably
the biggest show Netflix has ever put
out it can chalk up a lot of its success
to its great cast of characters as its
second chapter began one of the more
underrated cast members was Sean aston's
Bob the second season really ramps up in
its eighth episode with the monsters
rampaging through a hospital it's a
tense and unrelenting Chase through the
hallways of the Hawkins laboratory in
this desperate moment Joyce's new
partner Bob really steps up to the plate
following careful instructions from
scientist Dr Owens he's able to distract
the creatures and help the group get out
safely the Escape appears to have been a
narrow success until one last crawler
pounces on Bob it's a truly
gut-wrenching sequence as the action
slows to a cruel absorbing the audience
into the horrifying moment Joyce's
Devastation is made much more powerful
with a lack of sound and the team has no
choice but to leave him behind poor Bob
has no chance against the Beast as it
tears into him mercilessly and this
sudden end to his character Arc made him
a fan favorite many took to forums and
social media to pay their respects to
The Lovable character number nine Denise
in The Walking Dead Season 6. much like
Game of Thrones very few Side characters
Make It Through The Walking Dead Alive
as the series went on the threat of
rival human groups only grew more
pronounced things really started to get
dicey in the sixth season having
established themselves in Alexandria
Rick's group befriend many new faces
including the local doctor Denise in the
14th episode Denise pauses on an
expedition to express herself to Daryl
and the others she's tired of being put
down and viewed as a tool by others the
conversation pushes on for almost a
minute and it seems to be swaying
Denise's friends that is until a
crossbow Bolt from Dwight lands with a
devastating impact the weapons silent
but deadly efficiency is taken to its
most Grim conclusion as it pierces
through Denise's skull and out of her
right eye what makes the moment even
more grisly is how she tries to finish
her sentence it's a death so abrupt that
it takes the body a second or two to
register the impact being a key doctor
in the community of Alexandria the
sudden death of Denise deprives the town
of a valuable skill set it's another
abrupt moment that shows negan's saviors
are not to be trifled with number eight
Captain John Franklin in the terror next
we have a criminally underrated series
that had a limited to release on several
platforms the terror arrived on our
screens in March 2018 and took many
audiences by surprise the original novel
by Dan Simmons takes this mysterious
Expedition and adds a horror-based Twist
laying the groundwork for a 10 episode
series we follow HMS Erebus and HMS
Terror as they attempt a doomed mission
to discover the Northwest package the
latter is led by Captain Sir John
Franklin played by Kieran Hines with his
face on the front cover you wouldn't
expect Sir John to meet his end so
quickly but the terror proves that these
overconfident Argonauts are no match for
the freezing conditions and the monster
that stalks their expedition as early as
the third episode the captain meets a
harrowing demise while organizing a
hunting party to shoot the monster it
ambushes and Slaughters the entire
contingent Franklin attempts to reach
safety but is dragged towards a hole in
the ice after biting off his leg the
Sailor is tipped into the ice ironically
fulfilling his desire to see below the
surface because Captain's early death
shows that the Unseen Beast is much
different from the polar bears common to
the area number 7. Ilana in Lost it's a
bit of a cheat entry but lost's
implementation of light horror and
Supernatural elements earn it a spot
before JJ Abrams built his name on the
mystery box formula he put together the
ambitious if ultimately disappointing
lost set on an Uncharted island in the
aftermath of a plane crash a collection
of survivors are forced to survive
against hostile natives natural hazards
and an elusive smoke monster that lurks
in the jungle unfortunately Elana's time
on the show was short-lived as in season
six she goes out with a bang it's a
seemingly simple conversation between
characters as she packs some Dynamite
before heading on an expedition
unfortunately for Our Heroes she's the
last person you'd want to handle some
deadly explosives without warning Alana
drops the bag of dynamite on the ground
and triggers the sticks prematurely one
of the more underused characters in the
show is gone in instant the reactions to
this sudden death range from shock to
Pure hilarity some felt it added to the
show's unpredictable events and others
thought that the writers took the easy
way out with a character they no longer
needed in any case it's still one of the
quickest deaths in small screen history
number six Alison Argent in Teen Wolf
this series was inspired by the 1985
release of the same name with Michael J
fox but takes things in a darker
direction from the get-go the fan base
latched on to leading man Scott McCall
and his love interest Alison Argent with
McCool being a werewolf and Argent a
werewolf Hunter you'd think they'd be at
each other's throats instead the
opposite occurs as the two become lovers
for the first three seasons Scott's
physical prowess and Alison's skill in
archery made them a dynamic duo who
could take on anything also audiences
believed they tackled many Supernatural
threats as the series went on once Teen
Wolf reached its third season things
started to get dicey for the cast of
characters in the penultimate episode
insatiable the team get into a
claustrophobic fight with the Warriors
of Oni Alison saves Scott from getting
sliced and diced only to be suddenly
stabbed herself she professes her love
to the lead protagonist before dying in
his arms ultimately Alison's passing was
a critical moment for the series one
that brought many viewers to tears her
close bonds with the other characters
made her death all the more
heart-wrenching for everyone involved
number 5. Joyce summers in Buffy the
Vampire Slayer easily one of the biggest
cult hits of the 90s Buffy the Vampire
Slayer was the product of Joss Whedon
and mutant enemy Productions in many
ways it set the blueprint for many
Supernatural dramas to come the show was
a brilliant blend of horror focused
action and more tender human drama for
some time audiences had gotten used to
Buffy taking down monsters and saving
the day yet there are some things Buffy
is powerless to fight against deep into
the series it hammered this point home
more and more in a 16th episode of the
fifth season things took a shocking turn
immediately as the episode opens Buffy
enters her mother's home only to find
her lying motionless on the couch she
moves from uncertainty to denial
eventually tipping over into crushing
grief Joyce was mostly disconnected from
her daughter's vampire fighting efforts
and this made the opening all the more
horrifying with this bold writing and
Sarah Michelle Geller's phenomenal
performance Joyce's death from a brain
aneurysm marks the body as one of the
finest episodes in not just its series
but the entire small screen Library by
having the reality of death play a major
role the character's departure had a
massive impact number 4. Rita in Dexter
taking on the often overlooked
perspective of a serial killer and
making it a guiding Focus Dexter's
unique take on a popular sub-genre of
Horror made it very engaging to
audiences with its High View count and a
strong performance from Michael C Hall
it became the most successful series on
the Showtime channel by day the titular
protagonist is A bloodstain analyst for
the Miami Police and at night he hunts
down and brutalizes those who slip
through the cracks of the justice system
as he evades the authorities and
struggles against his violent urges
Dexter finds himself faced with many
adversaries many times this puts those
close to Dexter at risk his secret can't
stay hidden forever and over nine
Seasons the tension continues to rise
Rita Bennett played by Julie Benz
marries Dexter and maintains an
emotional bond throughout the first four
outings when the sadistic Mitchell
learns of Dexter's true identity Rita is
sent away for her own safety while our
anti-hero is successful in killing his
Nemesis the villain ends up having the
last laugh Dexter finds Rita dead in a
bathtub as the fourth season ends it's a
massive shock that weighs heavily on the
protagonist for the rest of the series
number three Nan Flanagan in True Blood
with the massive success of Stephanie
Meyer's Twilight series in both books
and films it was inevitable that
imitators would arrive in other forms
one of the biggest contemporaries was
True Blood a supernatural horror series
that lasted seven seasons was overall a
more adult-oriented Affair the show was
able to sustain itself on a massive cast
that consistently shifted back and forth
between many big faces from Alexander
Skarsgard to Rutger Hauer for the most
part though the episodes were squarely
focused on Anna paquin's Sookie
Stackhouse as she navigates the conflict
between risen vampires and those who
hunt them one of the biggest supporters
of the former was the ruthless Nan
Flanagan played by Jessica tuck while
not a leading member of the cast Nan was
nevertheless a prominent voice for the
vampiric community for a time her
charismatic speeches to the public
seemed to make her Untouchable that is
until the season 4 finale came along Nan
strolls into the residence of Bill and
Eric with armed guards in tow her
efforts to recruit them to her side
turns into a foolish Endeavor as the duo
rapidly cleaved their way through the
entire Entourage an Abrupt and
shockingly bloody end for sure one that
showed this Femme Fatale was far from
Invincible number two Violet Harmon in
American Horror Story in the early 2010s
horror began to hit the small screen
with higher budgets and more focused
stories one of the earlier efforts here
was American Horror Story an anthology
series that reached High popularity and
reception as early as the first season
American Horror Story established itself
as a different kind of horror show one
that relied on different Tales each time
the series debut was murder house which
follows the harman family moving to a
Sinister haunted property in Los Angeles
with its characters confined to one
season the series squeezes plenty of
depth out of its lead actors the
audience connects with the Harmons right
from the outset Violet Harman the
youngest member of the family goes
through a lot from the get-go and she
isn't safe from the evil spirits that
torment the family at the halfway mark
of Murder House Violet is tormented and
overwhelmed by everything and attempts
suicide and and while it seems that Tate
saves her later on it is revealed that
she did in fact die and is now a ghost
Violet's early passing was one of the
first major shocks of the series and
American Horror Story would continue to
use this formula in the stories to come
number one where's in How to Get Away
with Murder finally we have how to get
away with murder a highly regarded
murder drama that made use of often
underrepresented cast members led by
Viola Davis it became a big hit between
2014 and 2020. while it's more of a
legal thriller than full-on horror how
to get away with murder still features
its share of creepier elements detention
stems from the unpredictable nature of
its story we follow the proficient law
professor annalize Keating as she
becomes embroiled in a murder case much
of the show's appeal comes from
keating's close bond with her Protege
Wes Gibbons played by Alfred Enoch is
one of the more likable and charismatic
students of annelise's class and is
eventually selected to be an intern at
her her thumb when the professor is
targeted by several criminals her
students become targets too in the third
season Wes goes to his teacher's home
only to be suddenly grabbed from behind
and subdued by a sedative his killer
finishes the job by choking Wares and
burning anneliese's house down with many
audiences enjoying his character it was
a surprise to see him killed off so soon
the Grievous wounds on his body in the
morgue hammers his demise home and that
