There are many other factors that decide whether people engage in certain sports too this section will give a breakdown of these other factors.

Politics

Governments can adopt campaigns to encourage participation in certain areas of sport. This helps to utilise the sports facilities that they build but also help members of the public adopt healthier lifestyle choices. Politicians also play a role in deciding which sports take a dominant role in our schools influencing the children of the nation.

Acceptability

Certain sports suffer from social stigmas making them socially unacceptable to engage in on mass levels. Skateboarding carries a stigma of vandalism and lawlessness despite the fact that the vast majority of people who enjoy the sport engage in a healthy and productive manner.

Danger

Some people are more attracted to the risk of extreme sports more than others for example rock climbing and motor racing. These people will not get the same enjoyment from a game of snooker as they would reaching the summit of a dangerous mountain climb.
