Anytime Fitness Review: Is It Worth It?

Published July 22, 2023, 1:45 p.m. by Liam Bradley

If you’re looking to join a gym, you’ve undoubtedly seen a few Anytime fitness clubs around. They’re one of the largest fitness chains on the planet, with over four thousand locations worldwide.

People tend to be drawn toward Anytime for two reasons: They’re easy to find, and they’re extremely convenient, with 24/7 open hours.

fitness can be a tough habit to keep, so these two factors can be the difference between going to the gym consistently for years or flaking out after a couple of months.

But is Anytime fitness actually worth the price? Here’s everything you need to know before you sign up.

How much does Anytime fitness cost?

Anytime fitness fits firmly in the mid-range when it comes to gym membership cost.

It won’t compete with the budget gyms like Planet fitness and Crunch, which both start at about ten dollars per month.

And it’s not a high-end health club like Life Time or Equinox, which will both likely run over one hundred dollars per month.

Expect to pay somewhere around thirty six dollars per month to join Anytime fitness, plus annual fees, activation fees, et cetera. Of course, exact pricing varies greatly depending on when and where you join.

For comparison, you’d pay about the same amount to join most mid-range gyms like LA fitness, Gold’s, or 24 Hour fitness.

Anytime fitness equipment, features & amenities

Even though Anytime fitness isn’t particularly expensive, those monthly fees really add up over the course of the year. So what does your membership at Anytime actually get you?

When it comes to equipment, people of any fitness level should be happy here.

You’ll find plenty of treadmills, stair machines, rowers, and other cardio equipment, plus a better-than-expected strength training area. Most Anytime clubs have heavy dumbbells, full power racks, and Smith Machines in addition to regular resistance machines.

You may even find a functional training area with kettlebells, battle ropes, and more.

However, Anytime fitness locations are smaller than some competitors, so chances are they won’t have the pure quantity of equipment that a bigger gym might be able to offer.

Classes

The good news is that Anytime fitness does offer group fitness classes. But the bad news? They’re often not included with your membership.

Most Anytime clubs offer classes throughout the day like yoga, zumba, pilates, Silver Sneakers, and more.

Check your local club, but there’s a good chance you’ll have to pay extra to access these classes — which significantly hurts the value of the gym overall.

Pool & Spa

Unfortunately, Anytime fitness locations do not typically have a pool, sauna, hot tub, or spa.

No aquatic classes or lap swimming here. But on the plus side, the locker room is always clean and dry.

Child Care

Anytime also doesn’t currently offer any childcare services at its gym.

If you’re child free, then this is no problem. But for busy parents, a lack of child care might be a deal breaker. Check out LA fitness or the YMCA as good alternatives here.

Other Amenities

The main draw of joining Anytime fitness is definitely the 24/7 access. For night owls or anyone who works a unique schedule, having the freedom to access gym equipment any time of day or night is a gamechanger.

Most locations also offer personal training and meal planning, along with tanning beds, though these amenities usually cost extra.

Drawbacks to Anytime fitness

Anytime fitness is a solid overall gym and a good value, but it might not be a good fit for everyone.

First, there’s a serious lack of amenities at most locations. No child care, no pool, and no sporting courts hurt the value of the gym for many prospective members.

Second, since Anytime locations are often on the small side, you may end up waiting for equipment, even if the gym isn’t that crowded. Your best way around this is to visit the gym during off-hours.

Anytime fitness has good equipment and incredible convenience, all at a relatively affordable price. That makes it a solid mid-range gym for beginners and casual gym-goers.

However, you may want to explore alternatives if you need childcare, if you like aquatic workouts, or if you enjoy facilities with a more upscale vibe.

Your best bet is to take a tour and try a free trial before you put down any money, because a gym membership is one investment you’ll definitely want to get right.
