What is VPN and Why Do You Need It?

In this video, I discuss the importance and benefits of using a Virtual Private Network (vpn) to secure your online activities. A vpn provides encryption and anonymity, protecting your data from potential hackers and preventing your Internet Service Provider (isp) from tracking your online activities.

Having an isp, such as AT&T, Comcast/Xfinity, or Charter/Spectrum, is necessary to access the internet, but using a vpn is highly recommended, especially when connecting to public Wi-Fi networks like those in coffee shops or hotels. VPNs can also be useful at home or while working remotely if your employer requires a secure connection to access internal resources.

Throughout the video, I demonstrate the difference between using a vpn and not using one. With the vpn turned off, the isp can see your data, track your activities, and even reveal your location. By turning on the vpn, your IP address is changed, providing you with a private connection and hiding your location from the isp.

vpn also offers benefits while traveling. For example, if you're overseas and want to watch content available only in the United States, a vpn can help you bypass regional restrictions by changing your IP address to a US-based one.

Despite its many advantages, a vpn does not protect you from malware, such as viruses, ransomware, or phishing attempts. You should still have additional security measures in place, like antivirus software or firewalls, to protect your devices from cyber threats.

It is important to note that using a vpn may slightly decrease your connection speed due to the encryption process. However, the benefits of using a vpn far outweigh the minor speed loss.
