Learn how music symbols show notes, pitch, duration, rests, rhythm, melody and harmony in music.

Musical notes are used to notate the duration and pitch in music. Together with the rests, they create rhythm, melody and harmony in music.

Note and rest values tell us the duration of the note in music. Although rests are silent, we need to be careful not to forget to count them as part of our music.

Letter names are the musical alphabet that we use to determine the pitch of the note.

Learn about the note values of whole notes, half note, quarter note, eighth notes, sixteenth notes and corresponding musical rests.

Learn how to name the notes on the musical staff and ledger lines with the letter names.
