what's your take on this should women
and men be paid the same for what they
do in sports very very simple to know
because there's the money do you get
paid in sport isn't Jessica the speed
you get for playing as you know it's all
in the sponsorship and that is down to
marketability who's watching how many
people are watching take Wimbledon
that's been the big the big Rao for
before this latest one it half as many
people watch the women's final at
Wimbledon then watch the men's fun
people are free to choose they're free
to watch it's on television at the same
time on two different days but at the
weekend and people choose not to watch
it if people don't want to watch it
you're not going to get the sponsors
you're not going to get the money
simplified is faster market so why is
that soon if it's as good as the men's
why are people not glued to it in the
same way
is it as good as the men see lots of
people will be arguing and I thoroughly
enjoy watching England rugby team
watching the England women's win the
Cricket World Cup at the end of football
team of being sensational so there's two
questions is it as good and why isn't
there as much coverage or why aren't
people watching what my people watching
point over 1 million people watch the
women's Cricket World Cup final that's
nearly three times as many than watch
the last day of the the men's Test match
so people do watch women's sport there
over 100 million daily movie we have
Test matches quite regularly of course
where we have Test match quite regular
for Yemen well yes and we very rarely
get to watch women's sport on the telly
so one of the reasons why people don't
watch women sport is it isn't there they
don't have the history of being able to
watch it and actually what we're
starting to see is when they do when
they are able to watch it they do want
to see it I love that's not the
comparison of Wimbledon there's the same
coverage for the women's finalizes and
men's file there's the same opportunity
to watch it and it's been going as long
it's going to remove in my life you've
been able to watch or as fun as much as
a man's so why don't any people watch
but that's one final on one day in one
competition I've just told you a cricket
stat that's exactly the opposite start
100 million people watch that Cricket
World Cup final across the globe and
women's sport generally simply isn't
promoted as much it's not a living on
that farm in winning sport is it's
coming to the fore Natick particular
it's because the women's scene certainly
this country did so much better than we
all love so fell in love
but the reality is that most sports in
this country is watched by men most men
prefer to watch men playing sport like
that that's a reality right now I hope
it changes I love the fact that you're
your newest news broadcaster leading
with a woman - you mean I'm right but
you look like you're ready to jump in on
what I'm saying a lot of men do prefers
to watch - book only because they've not
really had the challenge to watch the
women play and when they do get the
chance to actually play they'll see that
it's a brilliant sport to watch as
you'll see with the football or cricket
you know there's an argument we'll men's
sports better because they're faster and
stronger well actually in my sport in
rugby because women can't rely just on
brute strength we have to rely on skill
and so there's more exciting running
rugby the argument of soon the argument
made will men are better cricketers
gazania shrubs or balls at 70 miles an
hour and more of awkward balls at 90 or
shane warne balls it about 50 miles an
hour no one no one's arguing he's not
world-class appear as though a vascular
lesion it could be the spinner he's not
been bowling stats of that but my point
is it's a skill in his bowling they're
valuing and similarly if Manny Pacquiao
got in the boxing ring with Frank Bruno
Frank Bruno decking with one punch but
nobody's saying that Manny Pacquiao's
not a worker truly the sea very exciting
thing about for just one thing a lot of
talent I don't mean anything about it
someone like me to listen to that sort
of football whether the men are playing
or the women surely there's the skill of
sport and the excitement is watching
people go faster better higher harder
you know that's what the grip of it I
didn't ask and I think on the whole
thing is edgy we just say we accept
there were different classes in the
boxing and we don't sit and go well he's
you know I mean it cancer not not you
know not a fantastic boxer because he
couldn't be a heavyweight that's only
ten pounds of ham right now thank you so
anyway we should treatment women
sportsmen say I took my ten-year-old
daughter too I like my husband's took us
to the only women to FA Cup final at
Wembley that like absolutely brilliant
I'm not a football
vision are Dave it's a darn good match
it was really exciting I didn't think
you'd use anything out from that but I
think when women say more some women say
oh look a women sport is is just as good
as men thought the fastest human being
in the world is a man the wisest who's
John the mother's first news
the highest they're all men and I think
I think you have to accept that there is
a physical difference between men and
women that means that they are going to
have all those records there's a
difference and in some ways comparing
them is meaningless men support and
women support both equally exciting you
know we didn't not enjoy what watching
Jess Ennis because she wouldn't have
Greece in the men's the Catholics in a
sprint we we loved watching that sport
is about the stories it's about the
finality and in fact the tight finish is
like the women's Cricket World Cup final
one of the best Chris Cook attractive in
ages because it was an opportunity as
well I mean Lewis biblically was going
to soda for Kate rudely interrupt
gentlemen tada yes stronger bigger but
Lewis football club have become the
first professional semi-pro football
club to place women and men's teams the
same amount of money so they play an
essence league which is a few below the
national leagues but they're women and
the men are now being personally second
I think I'm you'd agree with that so
yeah but that's that's not like that's
great if they want to do that but again
it's the money in sport is commercial
it's all about how much the certain
players who could just command huge
figures not just as they're grateful for
them as women because people want to
watch and women have been do to
disadvantage because they haven't had
courage if you don't get coverage you
don't get sponsorship if you don't get
sponsorship you don't get investment and
so on and that's not just because people
don't want to watch in the 20s dick Kerr
ladies were playing in front of 50,000
people football matches the FA banned
them I don't know why maybe just because
of it was threatening over to Vanessa
but fact is you know even back then
people wanted to watch there's been so
many things holding back the growth of
coverage of undoubtedly needs address of
the women in the cricket in the rugby
which they are from couple of weeks and
of course tonight will hopefully start
sorts ways back thinking about joining a
studio thank you very much to you as
well
you
