The first free VPN I wanna mention today is Atlas VPN.

It stands out from the crowd for a couple of reasons.

First, it has a fast, reliable connection thanks

to the WireGuard tunneling protocol.

This is pretty good even for a premium provider.

Second, there are no torrenting restrictions

and that means that Atlas VPN is indispensable

if you have to download something really fast and for free.

This is not the only upside of using Atlas VPN I have found.

Security-wise, there's strong encryption and a kill switch,

making sure no leaks can compromise your privacy.

Furthermore, in terms of privacy,

you can rely on the no-logs policy.

Personally, I'm always worried

if a free VPN is funded by stealing user data,

especially since it's based in the privacy-friendly US.

But this is not the case with Atlas VPN.

First of all, the provider has a premium version

so there's money involved.

Secondly, in 2021,

Atlas VPN was acquired by Nord Security,

the company behind NordVPN.

Still, the free VPN version of Atlas VPN

isn't without limitations.

It could use a bigger data cap and more device connections

but if you really care about those limitations,

consider the premium version.

After all, it's really affordable.

Another free VPN service that's worth looking into

is Proton VPN.

Yes, the same developer as Proton Mail,

a secure email service.

Experienced developers make a huge difference

and Proton VPN security is the best sign of that.

There's the latest encryption in place,

IP and DNS leak protection and a kill switch,

a full basic security package for free.

In terms of privacy, the Switzerland jurisdiction

and a no-logs policy makes a good combo

that's as privacy friendly as it gets.

Same as with Atlas VPN free version,

it is funded by the premium counterpart

but what makes Proton VPN free, especially valuable for me

is the lack of any data cap.

There are more than 82 servers in Japan,

the US and the Netherlands too.

That's where Proton VPN shines.

Unfortunately, this shine gets dim

as soon as you notice Proton VPN's limitations:

no torrenting, no streaming,

and subpar speeds are going to be your companion

as long as you use the free version of Proton VPN.

You can also use only one device per account

at a time, forcing you to choose

if you want a free VPN for Windows or some other platform.

These downsides are significant

and I would love to see an improvement there.

Even so, I think Proton VPN deserves a spot here

for providing the best security a free VPN can offer.

Next on my list of best free VPN providers is Ivacy VPN.

It is a combination of all things done right

and wrong with the previous two providers.

It makes you stop questioning

After all, Ivacy VPN has no data cap, P2P-friendly servers

and different countries to choose from.

If you choose what country you wanna connect to,

you can see just one: the Netherlands.

I had to connect automatically to be able

to view alternative connections, a little confusing.

Privacy wise, it is uncontested.

Besides having a privacy-friendly Singapore jurisdiction

with a no-logs policy,

Ivacy VPN doesn't even require registration.

Where other free VPN providers

at least have your email address.

Ivacy VPN leaves no space for data leaks at all.

That said, even with P2P servers and lack of data cap,

Ivacy VPN is only a decent torrenting VPN.

The connection speed is suboptimal.

See for yourself.

This is not the best speed compared to other providers.

Even worse, OpenVPN protocol

has slightly less reliable encryption,

so Ivacy VPN can't quite compare

look no further.

access streaming platforms like Netflix

from anywhere and get full security coverage,

nothing will help you better than a premium VPN.

NordVPN, Surfshark and PrivateVPN are some

of the most affordable providers right now.

In my experience,

they can provide you full security assistance

and streaming support you could ever need.

Personally, I would take any of those instead

of a free provider, especially since I did not mention

in the beginning that I heard some dubious recommendations

for the best free VPN 2023 recently.

Sorry guys, I just can't sit still

when someone unironically calls Opera VPN

the best free VPN.

First things first, it's not even a VPN, free or otherwise.

Opera VPN is a proxy service,

so you don't get the advanced VPN encryption,

only the TLS encryption,

which every website already has by default.

Opera VPN also only affects the Opera browser traffic.

It will do nothing for your apps or mobile devices,

and while Opera VPN may not collect your data itself,

it forces you to use a browser that does.

On top of that, Opera operates within the jurisdiction

of Norway, a Nine Eyes alliance country.

I tested Opera VPN to get information for this video,

and let me tell you, it's slow, painfully so.

It also has nothing to prevent any kind of data leaks.

I can hardly recommend you the use

of Opera VPN for any significant online activity

as it won't protect your privacy

or boost your performance in any way.

Another VPN that emerged recently

as a best free VPN 2023 is Psiphon.

It claims to be designed to unblock content

in censored countries.

At first glance, it has a lot of things going for it:

open source, requires no email address, completely free,

no simultaneous connection or torrenting limits.

On the other hand, it's a proxy service just like Opera VPN

without proper encryption, based in Canada,

a Five Eyes country, and it explicitly states

that it's not a privacy tool.

Oh and I almost forgot

about intrusive ads that plague Psiphon apps.

Because of the free torrenting, I tried using it for P2P

but no luck.

With speeds like that, it's just not worth it.

That's why I recommend to rely

on a proper best free VPN.

For free, these options will come with a few limits,

but at least they'll provide proper protection

and VPN features.

Atlas VPN is a reliable option,

especially if you need a decent all-rounder

with a possibility to torrent at high speeds.

Proton VPN is a security powerhouse, especially useful

if you need privacy at work or at leisure privacy.

Ivacy VPN is a great privacy option

with a potential for slow but reliable torrenting.
