my children gather round don't be shy
this is the first of four videos which I
know you've all been looking forward to
it's the results of the media death cult
science fiction survey starting with as
ever as last year and the year before
with your favorite science fiction TV
shows of all time I have the results
here they are uh and number one is
I couldn't possibly do that I will post
the full results on Discord and maybe on
YouTube on the community thing or a link
to them after about a week I want people
to watch this video first of course then
I'm gonna reveal the full list but in
this video I'm gonna go through the top
um how many positions is that I'm gonna
do the top 26 because number 26 and
number 25 are brand new entries and I
just want to give them a little bit of
credit for breaking into the top
uh Christ knows how many there are it's
there's there's there's hundreds so
number 26 and I will stop and butt in
and talk a little bit about this stuff
if I know anything about it because I
don't I don't think I've seen everything
on the list this is the this is the part
of the survey where I'm lacking the most
at joint 26 and 25 but one of them had
more entries putting them higher up but
let's say they're both at the same place
is Severance and Star Wars and or I have
watched Severance it just broke into my
top ten I think it's wonderful it's very
dickian it feels like the Philip K dick
novel brought to life weird about the
bifurcation of of the brain I learned
that word from Nancy Cress bifurcation
and I use it all the time it's good to
learn new words bifurcation
don't know what it means but it sounds
cool and Star Wars and or
everybody's saying this is the best
thing that Star Wars has done since
Return of the Jedi
probably I haven't seen it yet well
that's I've saw that I saw the first
episode I liked it but it wasn't wife
friendly she's not gonna watch anything
to do with Star Wars so I've put it to
one side until we've watched until I
have a bit of a gap number 20 uh oh
Richard Richard done a great job he has
color-coded stuff there's light and dark
so I can see which numbers are which and
there's just figures all over the place
and it tells you where things were last
year lots of info right number 20 number
24 is Cowboy Bebop
that's the anime of course
I say of course
I've I've watched quite a bit of Cowboy
Bebop I love it I want to start from the
beginning and watch the whole thing
again I did watch episode one of the the
Netflix
um live action which they canceled
people said it was all it was all right
but to be honest I'd watch the first
couple no one and then they canceled it
and then why bother watching it if you
can't carry on watching it in the future
so not not good Netflix not good 23 is
Farscape it's about where it was last
year I'm surprised it's that low because
actually I'm not what what tends to
happen with Farscape is if you love
Farscape it's right up there but there
are so many people that haven't seen it
yet you don't hear many bad things about
Farscape it's just that the people that
love it tend to love it a little bit too
much you know what I mean I I've never
seen it number 22
love death and robots
um I I it I think it's great most of
them are great I like the ones that do
something a little bit different rather
than look just like a video game but
they can carry on making love deaf and
robots forever it's like black mirror
right just give me more if they're not
very good I'll move on to the next one
but I've watched it several times number
21 is fringe I'm currently watching
Fringe we watched uh this is me and my
wife why why it's such a big deal
whether my wife watches something or not
is we have TV time we may be able to
squeeze an hour together in the evening
once we've finished work and everything
else and it's quite important that we
both enjoy a TV show so if we find
something that we both like and that at
the moment is fringe I'm about seven
episodes into season one and I'm I'm
loving it it's exactly what people sold
it as it's the X-Files basically with a
slightly bigger no a much bigger
overarching story and I'm liking it and
people say that it gets better and
better as you go on
[Music]
number 20.
how are we doing for the the camera is
miles away so excuse me if now and again
oops because I have half an hour timers
on the camera if I have to go all the
way over there my slipper fell off
I'll be fine number 20 is Red Dwarf that
that's about where I where I expect Red
Dwarf because
I think unless unless you're British I
mean you can get hold of it all over the
world but it's not rammed down your
throat like it is over here actually
that's not true it was and it's still on
repeat on a channel called Dave I do
believe and is British so obviously we
love it a bit more than the rest of the
world and that's about where it was last
year the next few there's not much
jiggling around on the list
lost is at number 19 I stand by what I
say about lost which is
probably the most disappointing TV show
because the first four maybe five
seasons are absolute perfection but it
never had an end in sight and I don't
always need that from a TV show but I
needed it from Lost number 18 is
Westworld
I've seen season one which I I think as
a self-contained season of TV with the
twists and what happens I know it leads
you into the next season but I think
season one is glorious
and I started season two and uh can't
remember what happened we dropped off it
and I never went back to it and I
probably never will now number 17.
everything's really tight around here
I'm not going to reveal the points
because I I don't we don't even tell
people how we score it because people
and it's different to what we originally
done because people will be very
strategic because people are weird
number 17 is Futurama well deserved at
the time it was it was a special TV show
I say at the times I think it's been
surpassed by something else which I
haven't looked ahead maybe that will pop
up later in the in the in the video at
the time Futurama was a bit of a
revelation because it was a TV show that
brought together all of the different
strands and sub-genres of Science
Fiction and put it in an animated comedy
setting you know what Futurama is I love
it
number 16 is stranger things
that's jumped up a little bit since last
year so what have we had since last year
the latest season
which was much better than we're on
season four aren't we season three was
uh diabolical I can't believe they'd
done that I didn't like season three
season four was better it could have
been a lot shorter I think they dragged
it out but they got they got there in
the end and we got one more right I
can't wait for season five I've been
there from the beginning
season one is the best season one
deserves to be up there all on its own
number 15.
Drop in Six places from last year is the
Mandalorian it's probably dropped a
little bit because we haven't had new
Mandalorian we had the book of Boba Fett
which I'm not classing as the
Mandalorian proper it's good I like the
book of Boba Fett but it's nowhere near
as good as the Mandalorian which I I
would I was my Saturday morning cartoon
slot I love the Mandalorian number 14 I
think I'm going to take a breath for the
top ten okay
because I tend to just throw information
and Waffle at the camera when I do
things like this number 14 is Stargate
sg1
I have nothing to add because I've never
seen it
I'm sorry it's one of those that I
missed at the time and am I ever gonna
get to it there's too much stuff to
consume I'm sorry I'm probably never
gonna watch it number 13 is the Twilight
Zone in Brackets 1959 which means the
original wasn't there or was that the
outer limits is all the old Twilight
Zone The Black and White
50s and 60s stuff why did I not know
that but it doesn't mean the Jordan peel
knew the rebirth of it of which I've
watched the first episode with Adam
Scott which is okay but I'm certainly
not clawing to get back to it Twilight
Zone classic yes people talk about their
favorite episodes older people tend to
like the Twilight Zone Twilight Zone
don't they I think it's forever gonna be
in the top 20. somewhere there or
thereabouts number 12 another huge one
this may be the highest thing on the
list that I haven't seen we'll see
number 12 is Babylon five
whenever I make a list like this when I
made my own personal list the comments
are just full of where's Babylon five
what I mean watch Barrel on five
I may do one day but I can't see myself
because I want to watch the whole thing
I'm I'm never gonna have the time to to
watch what is it six seasons hours and
hours and hours of TV that my wife is
never gonna watch maybe I'll try the
pilot she's never gonna watch that she
won't watch Star Wars she's never gonna
watch that uh number 11 is Doctor Who
uh it was number 12 last year so it's
gone up a tiny bit Doctor Who
I didn't realize until sometime this
this year when I was talking about it
with someone or doing a bit of research
that there's like a thousand episodes or
something I don't think you'll ever and
I don't think that's the point you're
not supposed to be a completist although
let me know in the comments if you've
seen every single thing I know there are
some missing episodes but you know what
I mean I jumped on it when it was when
it was redone with Paul McCann the film
and then Christopher Eccleston and then
I watched the uh David Tennant tenant
tenant and then I just mayor and now I
maybe watch an episode at Christmas I'm
I'm completely out of the loop but I I
believe you can kind of take
um like stories like self-inclusive
um what am I trying to say five or six
runs like you can with comic books and
read them separately so so one day I may
jump back into Doctor Who but my
favorite is Tom Baker because he's the
best
let me take a breath and I'll come back
with the top ten
[Music]
okay the top the top 10 science fiction
TV shows of all time according to the
media death cult audience survey takers
which I believe is the biggest science
fiction survey of its kind in the world
ever I genuinely think that if anyone
knows of a bigger one some magazines
have probably done a similar thing but
do they do that anymore no we are the
best
top 10 just so you know the uh Star Trek
counted you had to name the the only
rules were you couldn't just say Star
Trek you had to say which uh not season
but which whether it was Deep Space Nine
or Voyager
voyager's not in here is it number 10 is
Deep Space Nine and it was number 16
last year how does something like Deep
Space Nine go up that many spaces in a
year
if I'm being honest
I think it's probably my favorite Star
Trek like most science fiction fans you
you jump around I'm I'm a huge fan of of
all of it I say all of it I can still
watch the original I really liked uh
Next Generation I thought that was going
to be hard to beat because that's when I
discovered science fiction around that
age but the storyline for Deep Space
Nine especially when you start getting
into the darker later Seasons about the
Dominion stuff and the the bigger world
view I absolutely loved number nine is
Rick and Morty
it was number 10 last year it's it's
still evolving it's one of my favorites
that obviously I was talking about that
when I was talking about Futurama a
minute ago it has the potential I've
said this on camera a few times I think
Rick and Morty when we get to season 10
11 or however far they're gonna take it
I think it has the potential for being
the best science fiction thing ever even
if it's not really your taste they are
bringing in everything into this one
um Granddad grandson Dynamic and it's
hilarious and I love the way that they
talk about things in episode one and
they don't pop up again until later the
foreshadowing all of it brilliant number
eight is dark that's the the German time
travel thing I I fully agree it should
be in the top ten it's absolutely
fascinating at time of recording the new
we shouldn't spend much time on this but
the new the 1899 the TV show that
Netflix commissioned by the creators of
dark has been canceled after season one
so well done again Netflix but at least
we got dark if you haven't seen it it's
three seasons it's all complete it was
all written from the very beginning it
all works it's very tight your mind will
be blown over and over and over again
number seven is the X-Files again it's
one of those that I think is going to
bounce around
it was it was uh number five last year
it's one of those things that's always
going to bounce around the monster of
the week The Perfect Chemistry Between
the cast it's the X-Files it's kind of
stuck in our brains Now isn't it and I
know Fringe ripped it off who cares it's
a different version of that but I love
the X-Files number six
okay controversial opinion number six is
Firefly
I think
what are the score I mean it barely beat
the X-Files I think look Firefly is good
okay
it's really good but I think it picks up
a lot of votes what do I have no
evidence for this I think it picks up a
hell of a lot of votes because it was
canceled after one season and people
whinged and they want to bring it back I
don't think it's ever coming back there
are rumors that they're going to reboot
it fine do that do something new or just
carry on with the old cast I don't
really care what they do to be honest
but for that to be the sixth best TV
show ever after one season we didn't get
yeah we had some uh Serenity we had some
sort of conclusion but I think that's a
little bit weak sauce is that the right
expression to be that high up sympathy
voting I believe number five is Black
Mirror it was number three last year
Black Mirror
I'm surprised I love it I'm surprised
it's that high because as the seasons go
the the quality is dropping you may get
one maybe two really good episodes per
season now and the seasons are smaller
and they seem to be taking forever to
get out I don't get it everybody loves
it everybody wants more just give it
some money and keep pumping them out
don't know why I'm getting so dragged
into the whole production side of these
things Black Mirror is absolutely superb
there's 10 15 episodes that I can pick
out and watch over and over again
number four
is Star Trek the Original Series is that
one point ahead of Black Mirror it's all
a bit tight at the top except for in a
minute Star Trek the Original Series
again maybe maybe this cult has a
slightly older crowd and are gonna lean
because is it better than the other Star
Treks well according to oh maybe not
it's the second best Star Trek according
to this
um yeah I like it I love I love the
storylines the I think the characters
are the strongest not because of
nostalgia I think Kirk is a fascinating
Captain maybe my second favorite I think
he's great and of course The Supporting
Cast is fabulous number three the bronze
medal quite a distance ahead of of of
Star Trek
it's uh it was number six last year
taking the third spot is the expanse
however I should say too much about this
I don't know what I don't want to upset
people
I tried I didn't like it I tried season
two and I said it's got to be better
than season one and it was the same old
some of the casting I think is pretty
bad I won't name names but I don't like
it I I find the whole expanse thing I'm
reading through the books right now it's
sort of a little bit ordinary vanilla
it's a bit Bland and it takes its time
getting to the point not that the pacing
is slow the TV show it looks good and
there are some great
it's all right but it's not for me it
doesn't hit my top 50. I don't really
like it I abandoned it twice and I'm not
gonna give it a third go trust me but
you love it I know people love it and
they fell in love with the books and I
think the TV series has probably got
more love than the books
the runner-up
I've kind of given it away that it's
going to be here somewhere is Star Trek
the Next Generation the the points the
this was the runner-up last year the
points are massive that they are massive
people love this is Star Trek the Next
Generation the best Star Trek
I mean
I mean you say Deep Space Nine is number
ah I've lost it somewhere number 10. is
Star Trek the Next Generation that much
better according to the people that know
which is cult members yes silver medal
for the start for Star Trek the Next
Generation which means for the third
year is it is it the third year running
and since we've been doing this it's the
third third year how many years have we
been doing this I think this is the
third year running number one and it's
by quite a distance quite a quite a lump
not quite a third more votes than Star
Trek the Next Generation but Battlestar
Galactica is the number one I I don't
think it's ever going to be shifted
what's what's gonna be it obviously
something amazing can come along I guess
the expanse is the close is as close as
we get and it's got double the points
and the expanse is only going to drop
back now because Battlestar Galactica
now moves into Nostalgia Zone it's over
10 years old now 2004 to 2000 oh I
was trying not to swear in this whole
video to see if the algorithm does
something it feels weird I said oh twice
now
um 2004 to 2009 all right that's nearly
20 years old oh man is it really
well yeah I agree it's my number one
sometimes I think oh it's not and then I
think about it and then I'll watch an
episode or two and go yeah they really
nailed it didn't they
there is a reboot coming or a side quest
different thing happening with
Battlestar another TV show and some TV
movies there's the news on that gone
quiet I don't really pay attention but
just give me more battle star however
the con whoever was in charge of it Ron
what's his name make more someone in
charge out there make more battle star
and make it half as good as the 2004 to
2009 that's it I agree with most of that
apart from the expansion
