La Liga: Ending racism in football 'impossible', says president - BBC News

La Liga could reduce the amount of racist incidents in Spain's top flight in six or seven months if it had the "necessary powers", the league's president Javier Tebas says.
The Spanish league has requested more power to punish incidents of racism.
That came after Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr was the target of racist abuse at Valencia on Sunday.
"Eliminating this problem 100% will never be possible," Tebas told the bbc.

we are convinced that if we had those
Powers within months we will get rid of
this problem or at least we would
improve it considerably in general and
speak specifically in the case of
vinicius but if we don't have the powers
all we can do is to file complaints and
that's what we've done how long would it
take do you think to eradicate racism in
Spanish football if La Liga was given
the powers that you would like it to
have and if Spain's institutions acted
in the way you would like them to act
the important
eliminating this problem 100 will never
be possible the same way that totally
eliminating robberies and other crimes
is impossible but we would reduce it a
great deal and if we were given the
necessary powers in six or seven months
we could say that we don't have races
I just briefly want to take you live to
that news conference because it is still
going on with the head of La Liga and
those comments well they are significant
what he has just told the BBC and they
will frustrate many in terms of saying
that uh that it can't be wiped out
racism unless they get greater Powers so
we'll continue to monitor what is being
