BROMSTAD: Imagine winning the lottery.

Six numbers just changed your life forever.

Yay!

With a huge check bringing newfound wealth,

your dream home just became a reality.

Sounds fantastic, right?

Anybody can win.

I'm about to go along with recent winners

for the search of their lifetime.

This is what I live for.

You ever held $180 million?

This is the reason why I brought you here.

Oh.

WOMAN: Wow.

BROMSTAD: Ready to come along for the ride?

Lottery's newest millionaire!

BROMSTAD: This is "My Lottery Dream Home."

Welcome California's latest millionaire.

Whoo-hoo.

Here you go.

Rick and Lorie have lived in Calimesa

in southern California's Inland Empire

for 23 years,

raising their five children in this home.

Lorie is a homemaker,

and Rick just retired from the roofing business

as soon as he got the good news

about winning $180 million in the lottery.

$180 million.

That's right, baby.

Yeah.

You're my new best friend.

Come on in.

Thank you.

Oh, my gosh.

Yeah.

$180 million. I can't even handle it.

What was it like when you first looked at your lottery ticket

and went like this -- "Oh, my gosh. We just won"?

My sister called,

said somebody in Calimesa won the Mega Millions.

And she said, "Did you buy a ticket?"

I said, "Yes, I did."

And in a matter of a minute, we looked at the tickets,

matched the numbers, and just about fainted.

"We're rich! We're rich!"

[ Laughter ]

Yeah.

We're gonna find your dream home if you can stand it.

Can't wait.

But why don't you show me around your current house,

where you guys have been living for the last many years?

Yeah.

BROMSTAD: This 1960s rancher has four bedrooms, three baths

and a tightly-packed 2,200 square feet...

This is the most favorite part of this room, though.

I would think so.

You ever held $180 million?

No, I haven't.

Ah. It feels delicious.

Oh, my gosh. What is that over there?

[ Both laugh ]

They won't cash that one.

BROMSTAD: ...with a cramped kitchen.

LORIE: There's a lot of memories here,

but we're ready for something much bigger.

Well, I think we should sit down

and talk about what you want for your dream home.

Let's do it.

All right, let's sit down.

Let's do this.

What are you looking for?

You know, we'd really like a place

that's wide-open, some acreage,

something that the grandkids could have a blast with.

How big?

5,000, 6,000 square foot maybe.

Or bigger.

Okay.

We want space.

You want space. How many bedrooms do you guys need?

Five, six, seven.

All right, so we need lots of space.

Lots of space.

Fantastic.

And we want big enough house.

My dad's gonna still live with us, so...

Okay.

Yeah.

Give him his own space.

He could have his own space.

How about style-wise? Modern, contemporary...

You know, we like modern but country.

Do you want to be able to come in there

and do a little remodeling yourself

and kind of put your own touch on it?

Or do you just kind of want to just,

well, just plop in and go like this -- "I am done."

Plop in. "I am done."

Yeah. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

How much are you guys looking to spend?

I was thinking $1.5 million to $2.5 million.

We think there's some nice homes at that level.

Oh, absolutely. And we want to stay in this area?

We do.

I want to show you fabulous.

I'm gonna show you grand --

grand, fabulous.

Can't wait.

All right, let's get this party started.

Cool.

Let's get this party started.

Let's do a little lottery dance.

I'm ready.

Lottery dream home, here we come.

BROMSTAD: Here's my process.

I meet with a local Realtor

to get listings that fit Rick and Lorie's wish list.

And then I go look and pick my favorites.

I am so excited to check out these houses.

I have a stack of million-dollar homes,

and I am living the dream with Rick and Lorie.

This is kind of awesome.

The first property I want to show them is Beaucrest Ranch,

about 10 miles from their current house.

It's like a French château smack-dab in the Inland Empire.

It's super-unique. It's got a pool.

It's got an Arabian horse ranch.

It has so much room and space, and the views are stupendous.

And for $2.195 million, I think this place is an absolute steal.

It definitely could be their dream home.

Wow, this is gorgeous.

Welcome to Beaucrest Ranch.

This is 6,000 square feet. It's on 15 acres.

It's got all the amenities that you've asked for.

And it's $2.195 million, right in your comfort zone.

That's right there.

You guys ready to see some magic?

Yeah, let's do it.

All right, let's do this.

Let's go.

My lady.

Oh, wow.

Sir.

This is beautiful.

Amazing. Amazing.

I want to take you into, of course,

the heart of the house, and that's the kitchen.

Head this way.

Great. Let's go.

Oh, wow.

RICK: Whew.

I like this.

How's this for a bigger kitchen?

Oh, man. Wide-open.

It's got a very rustic feel.

I love these beams,

which I think is very much within your aesthetic.

It feels very ranch.

Definitely. Look out over the property.

Oh, wow. Check out the view.

There are views from every single angle.

It's amazing.

Oh, wow. That's really nice.

Yeah, this is beautiful.

The wallpaper we'd change.

Right.

I think it might just be paint.

Is it?

Yep.

Your kitchen right now

is probably from here to the window.

And now you've got all this.

Yeah, we can dance.

Yeah. [ Chuckles ]

So here's the dining room.

Oh, wow.

This space could do a 20-foot table

from here all the way past the fireplace.

I mean, you could have 30 to 40 people sitting at the table.

Very cool.

I like the spiral staircase.

I like the bar.

The bar is great.

[ Laughter ]

Cocktails, anybody?

Wonderful.

A little champagne?

There we go.

Why don't you fake cheers? We'll drink later.

There you go.

Cheers.

This is our formal living.

Oh, wow.

RICK: Very formal.

Yes, very formal.

You know, each room, the wood's different.

Yeah. Every one room's a little bit different.

The kitchen and the dining, the bar are very casual.

And then, now, this gets very stately.

Can you believe, like, just six weeks ago

you'd be looking at places like this?

No.

No.

But you are.

No.

Not in a million years.

[ Laughing ] I get the willies just thinking about it.

You should.

Who would have thought?

Look at this.

Master suite.

Very nice. That's a suite.

Wow. Look at this bed.

Get over there.

Let's lay up here and see if we can...

Oh.

Ohh.

BROMSTAD: You guys are looking good.

Really nice.

Love it. Just need some mirrors up here, right?

[ Laughter ]

I like your style.

Sitting room in here.

Another fireplace, which is kind of awesome.

This is nice. Yeah.

Very nice.

We could get cuddly in here, huh?

Of course, the house is amazing.

But you get the pool and all of this land.

I mean, it's absolutely incredible.

You have tennis courts.

The guest cottage is over there for your father.

He's got his own little quarters.

Good. That's perfect.

RICK: That's what he wants.

And, of course, it's got horses, this ranch.

We are going to get some horses.

All right. So, how am I doing so far?

I know it's the first property.

Thumbs up.

Thumbs up so far?

Yeah. Yeah.

Excellent.

Well, you know, let's go look at some more houses.

All right, let's do it.

Oh, wow.

Oh, wow.

This is fabulous.

Very nice.

BROMSTAD: Rick and Lorie just won the Mega Millions jackpot

of $180 million,

and we're searching for their dream home.

So far, they've seen the beautiful Beaucrest Ranch

near Redlands.

RICK: The reality is sinking in.

Never in a million years would we even look at this.

Can't believe it.

If this is the beginning, where is it gonna wind up?

We are at Casa de Serenidad, which means house of serenity.

I mean, what could be more fabulous?

It's only 8 miles away from their current house.

Rick and Lorie really love this area.

Everything's really manicured.

They don't have to do anything to it except move in,

buy some furniture, and call it done-so.

What I think is really interesting about this house --

It was built almost 100 years ago.

And it's been restored impeccably.

And the price is right in their price range.

It's kind of everything they want.

It's just something very different from what they're used to,

and I'm curious to see what they think about it.

Welcome to Casa de Serenidad. Isn't it beautiful?

It's beautiful.

Great name.

Yeah. It's a great name. It means house of serenity.

I mean, what could be better

than your dream home being built on serenity?

It's 6,200 square feet,

seven-bedroom, seven-bath, and it has a casita in the back.

Nice.

Wonderful.

The price is at $2.7 million, right in your range.

That's in our range.

Yeah.

I'm not pushing it too hard yet.

It's all right.

Let's go check this out.

Oh, wow.

Oh, wow.

This is fabulous.

Very nice.

Isn't it great? Let's look at the kitchen first.

Look at this kitchen.

All right.

It's gorgeous.

This is just really gorgeous.

I love the woodwork.

It's great, isn't it?

Is it cherrywood or something?

It's cherry.

Oh, it's gorgeous.

It's granite countertops.

Yep, yep, yep.

Could you see yourself cooking in the kitchen?

I could see myself starting to like to cook.

Yeah?

Yeah.

So I hope you guys don't think this is your dining room.

'Cause this is just your breakfast nook.

Oh, good. I love breakfast.

This is where you come to have your coffee,

your oatmeal, read your paper, you know.

But your dining room's in there.

Oh, my goodness.

Oh, now, this is a formal dining room.

Isn't this fantastic?

Yeah, this is fantastic.

Why don't you guys sit over here just for a second?

And I'm gonna sit over here.

Okay.

And we're gonna see the difference

of your last dining room versus...

Yes. You're so far away.

I mean, really, you could actually have

a bigger table than this to entertain.

With our family together, we'll need it.

Absolutely.

So this is our formal living room.

RICK: Oh, wow.

LORIE: Oh, wow.

Geez.

Oh, I love the woodwork.

Yeah.

I mean, look at the detailed woodwork.

The woodwork is just incredible.

Oh, geez. This is really nice.

Yeah, I mean, look at that fireplace.

I mean, you can tell that's original.

I mean, the detail, the dentil molding.

The ceiling is incredible.

Look at the ceiling.

Outrageous.

It's fantastic.

Does it come furnished?

It does not. This is all staged.

So that's the only downfall is that it's not turnkey.

You'll have to go out and do some shopping

or have someone do shopping for you.

And I will be more than willing,

and I know you have the money, and I'm very expensive.

[ Laughter ]

I'll give you a good deal, though. [ Laughs ]

So this is your master bedroom.

You guys, I am going to go hang out in the parlor.

Check it out and enjoy. Take it all in.

Pretend you're living here.

All right.

Could you picture us in here, Rick?

This is very nice.

Your own fireplace.

Again, all the woodwork is just crazy.

It's beautiful.

I like the rounds-off there. That's part of the old look.

Oh, geez, look at this.

There's your tub.

The Jacuzzi tub.

BROMSTAD: Each of these additional bedrooms are as enchanting as the next

in this house of serenity.

But I still have more wow to show Rick and Lorie.

So I've shown you the very formal living spaces,

but, obviously, we have to have a very informal living space.

And here it is.

RICK: Oh, there you go.

Oh.

Isn't it gorgeous?

Yes, it is.

I mean, look at the detail on the ceiling.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

That's my favorite part of this room.

The woodwork in the whole place is just incredible.

So obviously, we have a bar over here.

Last house was champagne.

I feel like this one's a little bit more margarita.

Definitely.

There's the casita over there.

And this casita was built in 1920.

Oh, wow.

Welcome to Pop's home.

Oh, yeah. He'd love it. Wow.

Very comfortable here.

He might have to find a girlfriend.

[ Laughter ]

And this casita has really deep, rich history.

Howard Marsh, who actually used to write speeches for FDR,

lived here and wrote here.

Really?

Okay.

There's a lot of history just in this property.

So I want to take you to one last spot

that really sums up this entire experience.

Can you hear why this is called the house of serenity?

Oh, man.

Look at this.

LORIE: Oh, wow.

That is nice.

Yeah. I like this.

Isn't that fantastic?

Just makes you feel so calm and serene.

RICK: I love it.

And the grounds are just so beautiful and pristine.

You really don't ever have to leave here.

No, you don't.

It's just wonderful.

This is serenity, right?

Right.

All right. So I've shown you this house

within your price range.

Showed you the last house within your price range.

Now, with your permission,

I would love to show you a house that's a little bit --

It's above your price range that you're comfortable with.

I'm good with it. I'm good with it.

All right.

Here we go.

Wow!

[ Singsong voice ] Welcome to Eagle Crest.

BROMSTAD: After winning the Mega Millions lottery of $180 million,

Rick and Lorie are searching for their dream home.

They've toured beautiful Beaucrest Ranch

and Casa de Serenidad

and now gave me permission to go a little over the top.

I found fabulous.

This house is called Eagle Crest

and is 10 miles from Rick and Lorie's current house.

It sits on 50 acres.

Even though this is an amazing space,

the drive up is a little crazy.

The great thing about this house -- It's turnkey.

All the furnishings can stay.

It fits the house. It has this lodge feel.

I think this is exactly their aesthetic.

Six garages.

One, two, three. Yeah.

Only six.

[ Laughs ]

Hi. Welcome.

Hi.

Good to see you.

Welcome to Eagle Crest.

Couldn't imagine why it got its name.

It's a great name.

The drive up was a little freaky, right?

Oh, my gosh. How high is it?

About 6,000 feet above sea level.

I've got to try to drive it

'cause I don't know about that drive up here.

A little bit -- a little bit hairy.

Well, let me tell you a little bit about the house.

It's five bedrooms, eight baths, 16,000 square feet.

Oh, geez.

The amenities are amazing.

I'm not gonna tell you about them

because I want you to be surprised.

There's a few negatives.

It does not have a pool.

Okay.

And it snows a lot up here.

And the price is -- bargain --

$5.8 million.

That's it?

Oh, geez.

And it sits on 50 acres.

Oh, my gosh.

You basically get your own mountain.

It's a little bit higher than what we wanted to spend,

isn't it?

Eh.

Honey, you've got to see the inside.

Okay.

Wow!

[ Singsong voice ] Welcome to Eagle Crest.

Oh, my God.

Holy smokes.

Beautiful.

Insane, right?

Insane. You said it.

This is insane.

I love the bear.

The bear is awesome.

I'm gonna take you into the great room because it's great.

Wow.

The view is absolutely majestic.

But just take in everything here.

Wow. It's out of sight.

This is very lodge-y. This is very themed.

Oh, I love it.

It's great.

Beautiful chandeliers.

The beams are actually brought in from Canada.

And the craftsmen are from Utah.

Oh, wow.

Yeah. This whole house is majestic.

Let's look at the view really quick.

Okay.

Let's check it out.

You can see everything.

Oh, my lord.

Everything.

Oh, look at this.

RICK: That's Lake Perris right there.

Look at it.

[ Laughing ]

Wow.

This is the kitchen.

This is amazing.

Everything matches.

This is not just one kitchen. It's two kitchens.

We have the baker's kitchen over here.

Two ovens.

Oh, wow.

Ta-da.

Cookies for Christmas. I can smell it.

But then we have our other kitchen

with two more ovens over here.

I'd be cooking a lot. Or someone's gonna be cooking.

Somebody's cooking.

Somebody's gonna be busy.

Honey, you don't have to be busy.

Got warming drawers, cooling drawers.

Oh, yeah. Warmer.

Trash compactor. Haven't had one of those before.

That's really nice.

Oh, Rick, look.

This is for your spices.

RICK: Oh, wow. The detail is just...

High-end everything.

Oh.

Rick, why don't you sit over here?

Oh, my gosh.

My lady, why don't you sit over here?

This is huge. Huge!

I'll sit next to you, darling.

Nice having a little fireplace in your dining room.

It's gorgeous.

Hey down there.

Hello. Hello down there.

Hello.

[ Echoing ] Hello, hello, hello, hello, hello.

It's kind of cave-y looking.

It's great for entertaining, isn't it?

Yeah, it is.

It's fantastic. It's right off the great room.

Yeah. It's amazing.

Uh...

You're a little nervous, aren't you?

I'm still thinking about the drive and...

Yeah. Drive is a little crazy.

And the money a little bit.

All right, guys. Why don't you come outside?

We haven't spent any time outside. But look.

Oh, this is stunning.

Your own babbling brook.

This is stunning.

Amazing?

Just look at the view.

Oh, my gosh.

Oh, my goodness.

Look at the view. Let's continue.

Explore.

All right, I'm gonna let you guys explore your master suite.

Oh. Very good.

Oh, geez.

Master suite. Oh.

Wow.

There's more of the beams. [ Laughs ]

Geez.

This is pretty nice, Rick.

Lookit.

You got a deck on the front and the back

so you can enjoy the mountains...

Oh, yeah.

...or the valley.

Wow.

Oh, this is beautiful.

Lookit. His and hers.

Got a Jacuzzi tub.

Look at the view for the Jacuzzi tub.

[ Chuckles ]

Is that one bed?

Uh...

No, it's two.

No, I think it's two, but it sure is comfy.

Oh.

Oh, my gosh.

Okay.

You really think we can afford this?

It's only $5.5 million.

BROMSTAD: Eagle Crest also boasts themed bedrooms

such as the canoe room and the Western room,

plus an apartment for Lorie's dad.

The bottom floor includes a gentleman's lounge,

a pool room, and a fully-equipped gym.

But the red-carpet amenity down here

is what I think will really win them over.

This is too much.

Tickets, anyone?

How much are the tickets here?

$5.8 million.

I'll take one.

[ Laughs ]

Would you like a snack?

Oh, sure.

There you go.

Very nice.

How about something to drink?

Of course.

I'll take a beer.

I think you're gonna need one.

You're about to spend $5.8 million.

Wow.

[ Chuckles ]

Ta-da.

Now, that's a theater.

This is ridiculous.

One, two, three, four, five, six.

There is like 20 seats here, and it's incredible.

Unbelievable.

Fabulous.

Look at the giant screen. THX.

Everything is high-def deliciousness.

And the best thing is is your seats recline.

There's a little button right there. There you go.

Oh! [ Laughs ]

Oh, yeah.

Oh.

That is very nice.

Stop the magic.

Oh, geez.

No, let the magic continue.

Yeah, exactly.

Are you sold yet?

[ Sighs ]

All right. So, did I hit the mark?

I mean, I showed you three houses --

three very different houses.

Do you think one of these could work for you guys?

It is a serious decision to make.

It's a lot of money.

Absolutely.

Well, why don't you guys think about it?

Let's get up and get out of here.

Let's do this.

So, what do you think of the Beaucrest Ranch?

The price was great on it.

Yeah, the price was great.

Loved the view.

Setting is beautiful. The land is all usable.

It's got a great in-law quarters back in the back.

Horses could come with it.

It was a beautiful house.

Right.

So then Casa de Serenidad was...

My goodness. Those grounds were absolutely gorgeous.

Pulling up to it.

Yes, was beautiful.

And with all the history it has.

And the casita was just perfect for my dad.

That place was really nice.

Yeah.

So the Eagle Crest...

Hmm.

It's probably the most beautiful house I've ever seen.

And all the property.

The only holdback for me --

Really, the price is way more than the other two.

Yes. It's on the high side.

But we don't have to do much to it.

It's really up to you.

So, are we on the same page?

Yeah, we're on the same page.

I just want to make you happy.

I'm happy.

Yeah?

Mm-hmm.

All right.

Let's see David, then.

All right.

All right.

What have we decided?

Well, they were all beautiful properties.

Okay.

We decided on...

You want to see more majestic homes?

Go to hgtv.com and check out the fabulousness.

Hello.

Hi.

How are you?

Great, great.

Excellent.

Big decision.

Was it a hard deliberation?

It was.

Very hard.

You showed us magnificent properties.

Drumroll. What have we decided?

Well, they were all beautiful properties.

Okay.

Well...

...we decided on the Eagle Crest.

Ah.

[ Laughs ]

Eagle Crest it is.

Amazing. Yes.

That's exactly what you wanted.

Exactly.

It was an absolute pleasure to do this with you guys.

It's been fun just doing this.

Thanks for taking us around.

Thank you.

You deserve it. You're good people.

Stay grounded.

Oh, yeah.

Congratulations, you guys.

Thank you.

We've been in here for three months,

and it's been the best three months we've had.

We absolutely love it. Glad we made this choice.

The openness of the house has really been great.

The outdoors is wide-open.

After we purchased this 50 acres,

there's a neighbor down below

that happened to have a 155-acre bison ranch.

We purchased that.

And then he had 640 acres above that

that goes to the top of Little San Gorgonio Peak.

We bought that, too.

So we got 845 acres.

We've been here for 23 years,

and a lot of our family has migrated up into this area.

It's a natural for us to stay up here.

Comparing this property to what we're coming from,

our house was three-quarters of an acre.

We loved it.

And it worked for us.

We were gonna retire there.

And then you come here, and you just go, "Wow. Okay.

This would really work." [ Laughs ]

We used to stare up at this mountain,

never even imagining that we'd be buying it.

You can't beat a theater, a gym.

We don't have to leave the hill.

The mountain we stared at we own.
