When choosing a good travel fin there are are few important factors to consider such as weight, size, ease of use, and comfort to name a few. In our video we compare 2 options for an open heel, barefoot, lightweight travel fin. The Scuba Pro Go and the Aqua Lung Storm.

a little hot team what's happening today
we're gonna compare two options for a
travel friendly fin the Aqualung storm
and the scubapro go welcome to the
Octagon
[Music]
first and foremost we'd like to thank
you for stopping by to watch our video
our goal is to give you the most
information possible so that you can go
out and make an informed decision should
you choose to buy one of these fins
secondly we'd like to thank some of the
experts some of the other celebrities in
the scuba world for doing their reviews
of these fins first we watched their
videos and learned a lot and
incorporated that into ours well we're
going to point out some things that
maybe they didn't point out we'd like to
reattach again we'd like to thank them
for taking the time to make those and
we'll be sure and link their videos in
the description so please go and check
them out as well so getting into it
both of these fins are going to be
constructed out of single material which
is mon preen now mod preen is a specific
brands version of a TP II a
thermoplastic elastomer and that is just
basically a material a resin that has
the look feel and ruggedness of rubbers
so these are going to be very durable
they're gonna last you a long time as
long as you take care of them with the
added benefit of being able to be
injection molded so that's where we get
a lot of the details and a lot of the
technological advancements in fin design
so it's a win win best of all worlds
type of situation they're both open heel
constructed and barefoot designed to be
worn as a barefoot fin that you can wear
thin the APRI knock if you choose but
both of these are designed to be worn
without booties so we'll start from the
heel and work our way forward the heels
both are
bungee straps now whenever you're
comparing the two the scubapro
is an actual bungee whereas the Aqualung
is a stiff rubber the Aqualung is going
to be a little bit
Meteor to pull on so as these are
intended to be easy on Easy Off it it's
a little
easier to pull that however the
stiffness might last you a little bit
longer in the rubber cord the actual
loops that you put your fingers through
Aqualung this is about two fingers wide
whereas the scubapro version is a
triangle in it you can only fit one
finger in there comfortably moving into
the hill pocket you'll notice that I'm
able to articulate the heel strap up
whereas on the storm and on the scubapro
go I can only shift it up this is this
is directly mounted onto the fin so it
doesn't swivel this was probably going
to be a little bit more comfortable I
actually own a pair of these they're
very comfortable to swim in so this is
an added benefit there you'll notice
whenever looking into these that the
scuba Pro is going to be a slick design
whereas Aqualung has incorporated a
honeycomb design into theirs to give you
a little bit of added traction on your
foot so that it doesn't slip around our
first shout out is going to go to James
over divers Freddie who did an excellent
review of the Aqualung storm and he had
an opportunity to talk to another diver
that was using the scuba proko and they
mentioned that the slick bottom on the
go was a negative aspect of it so while
that's only one person's opinion we'd
like to thank James for his review of
that these fins and we appreciate him
taking the time to do that moving up
into the foot pocket still Mon preen
gonna be a little bit thinner up here
for added comfort the Aqualung storm is
going to be a folded edge whereas the
scuba pro is going to be tapered not a
whole lot of difference they're channels
on both fins start at the foot pocket
extend the length of the blade by design
the aqualungs channels or ridges or
power bars are going to be pointed the
scuba pros are going to be rounded a
little bit thicker however to the touch
neither of them give more than the other
so they're both very rigid and very
solid at the end of the foot pocket it's
open toe the difference being the
Aqualung has a sizing color tab there
and the scuba progo has a tri punch out
now the tribe punch out is dual purpose
for increasing water through the dead
zone
to increase efficiency but also being
able to put a name plate on there at the
time of this video there's only two
colors of the gofyn white and black so
if there are multiple black fins the
added benefit of having a nametag there
would be a welcome addition aqualungs
however if two people have the same
color fin but different sizes different
sizes have different colors so you'd be
able to tell them apart looking closely
at the channels as we move further
Aqualung has incorporated multiple
channels into theirs
whereas scubapro only has the one major
stiff bars on the outside so you're
going to get a little bit better kick
efficiency on the storm as the water is
propelled towards the tip moving to the
punch out you'll see this is courtesy at
Alex Pierce scuba over on his channel he
was doing some some reviews of some fins
and talked about scubapro engineers who
had noticed that a water board Tex was
created at the tip of a fin now whether
or not that's true who knows but they
included the punch out to get rid of the
vortex thereby increasing kick
efficiency so thank you mister Alex
Pearce for that tidbit of knowledge
please go and check out his video there
they're always great to watch so both
come with a punch out even if there's no
vortex it's an extra place to hang your
fins for storage or for travel looking
at the tip of the pin this storm is
going to have the modified fishtail
whereas scubapro is going to be a more
traditional fin the modified fishtail
our third shout out to to mr. mark over
at simply scuba articulated that that
the modified fishtail helps decrease
tracking so tracking is when your fin is
going to wave as it goes through the
water the modified fishtail helps push
that down
anytime you go and look at the scuba lab
reports at scuba dive magazine you're
gonna see that a lot of the tests or
choice actually have the the modified
fishtail with the exception of scubapro
go which was a 20-19 testers choice so
definitely a good fin here on this side
rock along is brand new for 2020 so was
not even test flipping it over starting
at the heel pocket working our way down
have
more ridges for better grip on the boat
on the storm
whereas scubapro is just going to be a
pretty standard underside you're also
going to notice that there are still two
punch outs for added efficiency in the
dead zone for water being able to travel
through their channels are going to run
the length almost identical on the
bottom of the fin and one noticeable
difference though is that the scuba Pro
comes with a pre 25 degree angle Bend
incorporated into it to give you in that
parallel position a little bit better
kick efficiency so that is definitely
added advantage there one other thing to
note on the bottom is is this little tab
right here is a nifty little thing that
scubapro added so that when you are
traveling you are able to hook these
fins together and by wrapping a strap on
the underside whoops they stay together
better so a nice addition there and that
about wraps it up if you have any
questions that we didn't cover then the
answer in this video please leave a
comment below and we will do our best to
get you the answer so that you can go
out and make the best decision possible
for you we'd like to thank you for
taking the time to watch our video if
you're ever on the island of Oahu please
stop by one of our stores we'd love to
see you and until the next video go out
have fun safe diving we'll talk to you
later bye
