CLONE A FIRESTICK!? NO PC OR LAPTOP NEEDED!!

fire sticks are becoming more and more

affordable just recently for example in

the uk we saw the fire stick light go on

sale for just 14 pounds 99. this has

made it possible for more of us to have

more than one fire stick in our homes

if you already have a fire stick with

the perfect setup with lots of side

loaded apps installed to meet all of

your needs when you've come to buy

another fire stick the first question

that most people have is

can your perfect setup be cloned onto a

new one

this video will answer that question so

when you're ready let's go and take a

let's start off by answering the big

question

can you clone your perfect setup from

one fire stick to another

unfortunately it's probably not the

answer you're hoping to hear a fire

stick cannot be cloned but don't despair

there is a workaround you can try and

you don't need a pc or laptop to do it

what we can do is copy the applications

from your existing fire stick and paste

them onto a new fire stick

the drawback however that this only

copies the installation file also known

as the apk file it does not copy any of

your application data such as your

usernames passwords or favorites

you may be wondering why you would want

to copy and paste apk files rather than

just downloading them again

if you've downloaded applications from

lots of different places such as

downloader app linked file synced or

aptoid for example it may be easier to

grab all of the apks right off of your

fire stick instead

you can then take them all and install

them onto any of your other fire sticks

or even share them with your family and

friends fire sticks

let's break this process down and go

through it step by step

in order to get the apk files from my 4k

fire stick and move them to my new fire

stick light i need two pieces of

hardware

this is an otg adapter which can easily

be picked up very cheaply on amazon for

around about six dollars or six pounds

this can be used to attach a usb storage

drive to the fire stick

in this example i'm using a brand new

sandisk 32 gigabytes flash drive that i

also picked up from amazon for around

about six pounds or six dollars

this video

firesticks are formatted in fat32 which

means that your usb storage must also be

formatted to fat32 for it to be

recognized

this brand new sandisk flash drive works

right out of the packaging and to make

this process as hassle free as possible

for you i recommend that you also use a

brand new usb flash drive if you can

don't go any larger than 32 gigabytes as

the default format for memory cards and

flash drives above this size is x fat

and won't be recognized when you plug it

into your fire stick

and if you have an old usb flash drive

you may find that it is not in the

correct format and won't be recognized

by the fire stick

to hook the equipment up to the fire

stick first unplug the fire stick from

the tv and the power

plug the usb storage into the otg

adapter

then plug the otg adapter into the fire

stick where the power usually goes

next plug the power cable into the other

side of the otg adapter plug the fire

stick back into the tv and power it up

with the fire stick powered back up and

the usb storage attached we can use a

file explorer app to check if the

storage has been recognized so that we

can access it and copy applications to

it

i like to use explore because it's

simple and easy to use

if you already have explore installed

skip ahead to step 4 in the video

if you don't already have explore you

can get it from my download page

all you need is the downloader app

installed which you can get from the

amazon app store

open downloader type in 28907

and click go

when the page loads press the menu

button on your remote control and press

it again to enter full screen mode

scroll down to the search box and type

in x hyphen plur

then click the back button on your

remote

click the red download button and

install it

once the install has finished select

done and then select delete and delete

again this will delete the installation

file as it's no longer needed you can

now go into your list of apps and open

explore

explore has dual panes to make file

exploring and moving and copying files

from one device to another simple and

easy

on both panes you can see that my

sandisk 32 gigabytes usb drive has been

recognized

i'm going to create a folder on the usb

drive so that i can copy all of my apps

to it

on the right hand side tap over to the

usb drive and select it

then tap over to the center console and

click on new folder

enter and name for the folder i'm going

to name this one apps

then select nex

and you'll be asked if explore can have

access to your usb drive

select allow

and you can see that the new folder has

been created

leave the right hand pane exactly as it

is

the new folder that i created has an

orange box around it this indicates that

this folder is now the target folder we

are going to be copying our apps to

tap over to the left hand side and

select app manager

then select installed

this will then show you a list of all

the applications that are installed on

your firestick

for every application that you want to

copy to the new firestick we need to

grab the installation file and put a

copy of it onto the usb drive

tap down and highlight over the app you

want to copy

then press and hold the center button on

your remote and a menu will pop up like

this

tap down and select the copy option

taking the abc app as an example once i

select copy a new box pops up on screen

to confirm the details

this is telling me that i am copying the

abc apk file to my storage drive

into the apps folder

make sure that move mode is left

unchecked and then click on ok

we can now see that the apk file for the

abc app has been copied to the usb drive

repeat this process for each application

you want to install onto the new fire

stick

when you've finished copying the apps

and you're ready to put them onto your

new fire stick remove the power from the

otg adapter then remove the otg adapter

from your fire stick

make sure that the new fire stick is set

up and ready to use plug it into your tv

and go through all of the steps to set

it up until you are on your home screen

now unplug your fire stick from the tv

and power supply

attach the otg adapter and usb storage

to the new fire stick connect it to your

tv and power it back up

on your new fire stick if you haven't

already install the downloader app by

going to the amazon app store turn on

the permissions to allow downloader to

install apps from unknown sources by

going to settings

my fire tv

developer

options install unknown apps

find the downloader app and click it to

turn the permission on

now we need to install explore onto the

new firestick so that we can access the

apk files and install them

a quick reminder how to do that

open the downloader app type in

28907 and click go

scroll down to the search box and type

in explore then click the back button on

your remote

click the red button to download and

install it don't forget to delete the

installation file afterwards and then

open the explore app

in the left-hand pane navigate to your

usb drive and click on the folder that

you saved your apks to

click on the apps you want to install

if this message pops up on screen saying

that the explore app does not have

permission to install applications then

stick with me

if you don't have this pop up on screen

then skip ahead to this part of the

video

click on settings then click on install

unknown apps

scroll through this list until you see

the explore app

we want to change this option from off

to on but with newer fire sticks there

is a slight glitch with doing this

click once on explore

you will initially see that nothing has

changed so press the back button on your

remote and then click on install unknown

apps again

go back through the list and find

explore you should now see the explore

has changed to on

now we can click back on the remote and

click the back button again to go back

to explore

click on the app you want to install and

follow the prompt on screen to install

the app

simply repeat this for each app that you

want to install

when finished you can now go to your

list of apps and all of the applications

you installed are there and ready to use

the apk files will stay on the usb drive

until you delete them

if you have multiple fire sticks you

want to do this with then it's simply a

matter of plugging in the usb drive into

each fire stick you want to copy these

apps to

you can even share these applications

with your family and friends just take

the otg adapter and usb drive with you

and plug it into any other fire stick
