Living in an Abandoned Store in New York City…

it looks like a store but it's actually

someone's apartment and it's a store the

glass cracked it cracked like the first

year oh wow so that crack's been there

for four years does air flow through

that in the winter time oh yeah fresh

freeze nice fresh Breeze baby

welcome to Bushwick we're on

Knickerbocker and we're right over here

by the park great place for riding a

boosted board that's how everyone gets

places in Brooklyn and if you don't have

a bike yet you could buy this one and

we're headed to this place it's a

computer store that was turned into an

apartment at least that's what I was

told and it's like five minutes that

direction

if you've never been here before it's

like a little self-contained

neighborhood here in Brooklyn you can

get some melons here at the grocery

store as well as some inspirational

sayings although if you tell that to

somebody who's having a bad day they

might get even madder there's a

laundromat Garden oysters it's probably

pretty good although the names on the

menu here are really confusing

pups Mexican raspberry passion slush and

they've got a menu which is so faded it

never goes out of style that's how you

know that it's working

after looking at the menu I don't think

you need to go anywhere else for food

popcorn Bagels white bean kale you'll be

the healthiest happiest hipster here

can't believe how good all these

restaurants are looking and if you don't

know what to get here just look in the

window look at those big birds right

there legitimately affordable too

there's also two of these record stores

I don't know who buys the records but

that's where the store is lucky laundry

99 Cents this is how you save money and

live in New York look who doesn't want a

massive baby bird that's a great deal I

think my daughter has that same one

poker chips nose hair trimmer Bubbles

and the whole Hamilton Beach collection

right here there's even a bed hanging

out the mattress looks new it's probably

for sale the frame I don't know probably

also for sale under 24 hours what kind

of laundry place is this and this is

gonna be some sort of new thing they're

making it right now looks like a

restaurant video I don't know if it's

open Metro do not sign up for their home

internet let's just say that I used to

have their phone service

market right over here and an outdoor

flea market next to the Natural Market

competitor you guys got some beautiful

Peppers man yeah it's like the size of

basketballs right there the slam dunk

for your longevity and there's karaoke

but the coolest thing about all of this

is that it's right by a park

there's like a bike ramp it's not a

skate park you wouldn't ride a

skateboard on that would you plus

everyone knows skateboarders they don't

need help getting up on objects look

here's some evidence of skaters it's

definitely not Central Park but it's not

a bad Park either there's also tons of

people out here exercising so you could

do that too if you don't want to pay

money for some gym membership where

you're just gonna run on a treadmill and

do some push-ups plus your dog can take

you for a walk

studio in the first 10 minutes of

walking in people came in and put their

stuff down because this is an Airbnb

someone was gonna buy some T-shirts

because it's also a print store and

there's crazy Graphics all over the

place and you live here and I live here

too how long have you lived here this is

the fifth year five years and what's it

like living in a storefront where you

can see the street and the cars like

right outside entertaining for sure it's

loud sometimes and it's pretty bright

when it's bright oh when it's cold it's

cold in here and when it's hot it's also

hot because the glass doesn't keep

anything I guess this is the shower

curtain

oh wow that's awesome

I feel like every inch of this has its

own story but what is going on in this

show some of these I made this one wish

with Club what is this bark the dog

artist from Jersey we did this solo show

here this is my friend Graham also an

illustrator computer car fix computer

Car Fix oh because they're carp yeah

does any of this serve a purpose I'm

trying to sell how much is the lamp 10

bucks how much for the uh this is a saw

so these are your prints your designs oh

yeah I printed it myself actually that's

awesome so we've got the merch wall

right up here in the front and I noticed

people came in asking you about some of

this as far as passes by on the street

what brings in the most people which say

the question up on the wall oh what is

this place yeah people were passing by

asking a question before I put a design

so people have Bushwick inspired me to

put this on Sir this is collab with the

officer Roberts CC's cops and robbers

this is their character oh that's pretty

cool that's dope jungle show how much is

that let's say 50. it's a pushed with

camo you might need some camo in

Brooklyn so no one knows how cool you

are and then we've got some games we've

got some books we've got an Xbox and

that's egpu a GPU oh wow cool for 350.

what's the deal with this with this

mural right here this is wallpaper it's

been five years on this location yeah oh

there's the store there's your friend's

logo the robber there's Andre right

there painting away ah the delivery

delivery got some scientists down here

what are they up to uh Fender Farm oh

they're on the farm you got the render

then we got the block party and someone

moving an old couch is there a story

with that old couch or no oh look at the

red vent over there do you envision a

future world where the police use tanks

to uh write speeding tickets yeah now I

notice over here we have an animated

version your story is that you're an

animator

that's all you that's all me it sounds

kind of sad right just me no I think

it's legitimately impressive that you're

doing like all these things and you're

not losing your mind I'm losing my mind

and how many rooms here are Airbnb to so

there's two guest rooms and there's your

room what's it like being a full-time

Airbnb host in New York it's a lot of

work actually you know navigating people

sometimes they don't know how to get

here

I feel like Andre is a pretty hospitable

host because of all the stuff got the

parsley the turmeric tea also my

favorite piece in the cupboard is the uh

Beaker cup that's cool do you find

people like raiding your fridge stealing

your food maybe not I don't see maybe a

ton of food I hate it all

I'm not super experienced with Airbnb

but if somebody takes a liquid death is

that just part of being here or is there

like a fridge feet it's free it's free

it's free chill people are welcome

listen if you're all uptight a bug

zapper Bushwick vacation that might not

be a home run as far as you're concerned

it is a full kitchen though we've got

ourselves a big oven the Daewoo

microwave this is

um probably the coolest thing that I've

seen in any apartment even though it's

probably like 20 bucks 25 Japanese

microwave they make cars too solid water

pressure who pays for the utilities here

is anything included or it's uh since

it's an office it's like you pay heat

water everything I don't think gas I

think the sell electricity

so if somebody wants to rent this room

what does it cost tonight I think it's

more expensive on Friday Saturday Sunday

what's like an average number for like a

weekend 125. I feel like this would be

an insane experience just the

environment the whole thing just people

coming in the store to buy stuff people

walking by on the actual sidewalk

I mean you can see it's bright great

natural light for a first floor place

then you got your little writing table

for your Memoirs soft foam earplugs a

map of New Jersey hey

do you need more than this in a New York

Airbnb that's uh this is what a full

full-size mattress I think so

it's not a twin and the closet's just

big enough that you won't overstate your

welcome plus we got like secret plants

and stuff in the room this is awesome I

love it

okay this is a room but it's set up a

lot like an office especially with the

tools and stuff over here is this one

your office yes uh okay that makes sense

if there was an Airbnb guest with this

many clothes you might be asking

yourself if the right person is here

probably not little futon here for

hanging out I love all the posters it's

almost like tapestries just hanging boy

you could tell Andre is a mad scientist

artist too man only a real artist has an

art cart look he's even drawn up some

plans for the Death Star over here check

that out I guess if this were an

apartment it could have a bed in it but

it's probably super loud because we've

got those commercial Windows right there

on the street and it's the street corner

it's not even insulated for example

you're gonna get everybody who's honking

at that stop sign and all the activity

right out front and look at the glass

I don't think it's double pain because

again it's a storefront the glass

the garden wire for the messy wires and

stuff oh you use it as like a cable tie

ah okay

this might be my favorite room

does this one go for more than the other

ones because it's a little bigger a

little bit yeah a little bit more this

would be an awesome bedroom because it's

huge I think the built-in storage alone

is enough for most New Yorkers any size

bed you want and then you got the two

Street facing Windows they almost look

like normal apartment Windows until you

remember that we're like right here

getting the real living in New York

experience a couple of years ago a

couple of guests staying and their kids

they tried to go up in there did it

collapse and just wake everybody up yeah

yeah you can see the holes oh wow oh man

like a good thing the bed yeah that's a

safety feature having the bed underneath

the canopy we've also got the little

bench take off your shoes the futon if

you want to read and look the makeup

counter is actually a leaf table which

then makes it big enough to support the

overgrown mirror which is awesome and

who doesn't love a quirky little lamp I

see we've got the mural wallpaper right

over here how often do your guests buy

artwork do they always buy something

when they leave because they're like I

stayed here I can prove it sometimes

yeah for sure it's like a hotel with a

gift shop yeah exactly wait a second

where's your bedroom

that's the office yeah so you don't have

a bedroom or a steak Whenever there are

no guests ah okay that makes sense yeah

what's that this is the rest of the

apartment building oh okay oh there's

like mailboxes and everything oh so real

people live here this is the closet yeah

oh it's like Jam full is there a light

that goes on in there so that people

don't get lost wow that's a New York

closet man you can't even get the door

open

it feels like an apartment once you get

in here and honestly this is a better

bathroom than most apartments in this

city I like the little things that just

give it some style some Pizzazz like the

bamboo mat the grapefruit scented candle

there's a mirror and even the sink has

some artsiness to it guys if you want to

be a guest and Andre's Airbnb that'll be
