A balanced diet is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. A healthy diet includes a variety of foods from all the food groups. The food groups are:
1. Grains
2. Vegetables
3. Fruits
4. Dairy
5. Protein
Each food group has different nutrients that are important for your health. For example, grains have carbohydrates and fiber that give you energy and help with digestion. Vegetables are a good source of vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Fruits have vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Dairy has calcium and protein. Protein has amino acids that are important for your body.
You need to eat a variety of foods from each food group to get all the nutrients you need. The amount of food you need from each group depends on your age, sex, and activity level.
The food groups are arranged in a circle. This is called the Balanced diet Wheel. Each section of the wheel represents a different food group. The outer ring of the wheel represents the foods that you should eat more of. The inner ring represents the foods that you should eat less of.
