heading over the path today with our

bikes I have my bike I have my bike bag

ready to go you always here nightmare

stories of people traveling with bikes

and their bikes ending up in more pieces

than what they originally packed I'm

gonna run through how I packed my bike

it may be different with the bike bag

you're using but there should be a few

tips you might be able to pick up on not

only for packing the bike to ensure it

gets the other side safely but also how

to rebuild it correctly on the other

side as well let's go so what I use bike

obviously bike bag that's the tool

around trip pro it's the older model

round-trip pro the newer ones have a few

more features and a few more handles but

this is done as well it's a combination

hard and soft case so it's soft at the

top and it's got the hard base so it

protects it where it needs to the case

itself comes with wheel bags but I

double wheel bag mine so we add a few of

those to the mix extra padding for

wheels and around the top tubes tape and

velcro tape velcro tacks really handy is

you can reuse that tools obviously tools

to take the bike apart this is a gym as

well it's a risk you are really heavy

but it's got bolts on either side so you

can lock it in and your rear stays do

not move in or out so grab yourself one

of those if you don't have one and most

importantly a textile more on that in a

sec the very first thing to do before

you do anything else to your bike while

the wheels are still armored

everything's still there take your

pedals off trust me on this I've learned

the hard way I'll do an entire video

about how to remove your pedals but the

number one thing firstly take your

pedals off while your bikes still

standing there

[Music]

next up not as important as the petals

but still very important this is where

the texture comes in handy or the marker

let me show you what I do on this Sun

think we want to make sure our seat when

we put our seat back on on the other

side the seat is in exactly the same

spots so I grabbed a texture into a full

circle there'll be a few millimeters gap

where the texture lead top doesn't go in

but you get the picture you within a few

millimeters where you see could be next

tip for that is to put a vertical line

as well now if you like you can use the

back markers or the front markers I use

the side as well but I also put a small

mark there and there and that way I can

line it up typically line of sites good

enough to straighten your saddle but

that also helps effectively the same

deal with the handlebars I put a

circular mark around here so we know how

far the bars go across other side if you

want and I put little side Nick's in

those you can see that right there

now it's convenient I have a black bike

I'm using a black texture and my bike

isn't too much of a trophy so that there

allows me to make sure the bars are the

same height when I put it all back

together and match those up easy as that

so two things down we have the pedals

off the bike that was an easy job

I'll cover that entire process in

another video it deserves its own video

the seat post marked and the handlebars

marked with the texture if you have a

nice white bike maybe use white texture

if you have a red bike maybe nail polish

you get the picture that's how I solved

that problem maybe even take if you put

some tape around the seat post and tape

around you can just peel that off when

you're done two things that have saved a

lot of time on the other end

every black bag will be a little bit

different I'll run you through mine how

it works if you haven't seen one before

they're pretty neat so as I was saying

before this is a hard case that has a

hard bottom where everything sits and

the top is soft that parts off with some

hard sidewalls I'll show you what I do

to add to actually add more rigidity to

that in a sec thanks for padding as I

said about extra padding for that little

arm so inside this bike bag as I said

hard bass and bike mount which comes out

pretty easily so front forks go in there

bottom brackets it's on there that strap

goes around the tubes and the bike locks

in

[Music]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

now we have to remove the rear

derailleur we don't need to change any

of the gear settings here or take the

chain off I leave my chain on but we do

have to remove this rear derailleur and

I tie it up here let's run through that

[Music]

and that tucks up out of the way when

you travel so you'll breeze available I

pounce around I'm good

I also wrap my chain a bit of plastic

there just so it doesn't get grease and

everything all over it so we've got the

the cranks locked in tight at the bottom

brackets in the front in rear

derailleurs off rear derailleur hanger

that's where this puppy comes in very

very handy

[Music]

that can't move in or out locked in

tight

I leave my saddlebag on that's always

fire and has stayed on so it's time to

take the seat off we've marked that

before so we know exactly where it is we

can just rip the seat straight off next

up on the tasks list is the handlebars I

leave my stem on the case has enough

room to leave the stem on so I take the

front of this off but also any of these

peripheral holders we have as well they

need to come up so we take the garment

the cage garment mount off and we've

already marked the bar so we know

exactly where they're going to be up and

down and sideways so that's all good and

then I fold them around some bike bags

require you to take the stem off

entirely if you do make sure we put a

top cap on so your head unit doesn't

bounce around but for this we take the

bolts off the front wrap the bars around

if you saw my other video the other day

I'm using mechanical old tegra and I've

added a few extra centimeters a few

extra mill to these cables so it's easy

to flip the bars around when you're

traveling look marginal gains if you

have smaller cables but really

practicality is that if you've got a bit

of cable hanging around here it's much

easy to do a lot more with a bike so

that's where I've gone with that let's

get these bars off tucked under and we

can get the bike in the bag

[Music]

job done bars off those bars wraparound

just neatly I'll show you how I do that

[Music]

the stem kind of protects the bike a

little bit the bars due to I put a bit

of extra padding on the top tube here so

there's not too much pressure on the top

coming through that's all pretty strong

down here as well so they're good where

they're at with the bar tape providing

protection almost ready to go in the box

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

so there's the basics of it the frame

itself fits in the box the handlebars

are spun around the stem there provides

a bit of protection for the bike you can

move that forward and back as well if

your bike's a different size but that's

what works for this box and the top

tubes are protected by a bit more

heading up here

I'll leave the bottles on next up over

to the wheels the wheels are pretty

straightforward we remove the skewers

the front skewer is already used in the

bike bag here to hold the bike into it's

a I guess a double use for that it holds

the bike in there and that's the front

skewer that I use when I get to the

other side the rescuer needs to come out

and I'll use double padded wheel bags

another tip for air travel let the air

out of your tires but I always go down I

wouldn't go down as much as there's no

air at all but enough to provide

protection to the rims just to make sure

they don't push up against your bike or

anything you're looking at probably

about 40 psi that you go down to on the

plane there's really no need to double

wheel bag everything but that's just a

meaning

[Music]

[Music]

so there's the basics of it both wheels

either side of the bike because there's

no pedals there's a ton of room either

side of the bike and back here you can

see there's a heap of room here we can

fit things in bottles are on the bike

it's a little bit of room up the front

here as well you can put a saddle in

there or whatever you need so it's quite

a bit of room give you the about a space

we have back here that's with my shoes

and helmets go another important thing

to remember your pedals oh and the

Garmin mount because if it's not on

Strava you didn't go on holiday and

don't forget your saddle

[Music]

saddles in bars around wheels are in

shoes are in helmets in bikes in I've

also got a cheap travel pump as well

we've bought for $5.00 I've pack that up

in there wrapped it up in plastic fits

just perfect so there's still even some

extra room in there if you want to put

some extra kit in and things like that

there's a ton of room hope we get this

zipped up and we're done the first few

times it's a bit of a pain to get done

but once you know what you're up to with

the bike bag that you've got it's a

really easy process only takes probably

five or ten minutes

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

[Applause]

[Music]

we're good to go flight booked in a few

hours so the tips we've covered today

are remove your petals first please your

wrists will thank you for it never try

and do it upside down on a bike I'll

cover this in another video entirely but

pedals off first use a marker to mark

your seat post height and alignment if

you can same with the handlebars mark

though so you can put them back on

exactly the same spot they came off

really get that thing off wrap it up

near your rear brakes and put a rear

stays protector on your bike if you

haven't got one go to your bike store

and get one if you're gonna travel

wheels skewers out and tire pressure let

down not too much though enough to

protect the wheels and protect the bike

from your wheels so forty psi the

handlebars off spun around and some

extra protection put on the top tube

there there's not a lot of pressure put

on the top tube but just in case no

scratches and things like that okay

that's it for today your bike may be

different if you're on di2 if you're an

e tap it'll be different altogether your

bike bag may be different as well even a

cardboard box but look the tips I've

given here should work for any type of

bike bag you're using so hopefully using

all those tips your bike will get to the

other side in as many pieces as you

packed it in and not one more we'll see

how we go today with that theory

standby thanks for watching
