good morning everybody uh and welcome to

this uh first webinar and there will be

two more webinars uh one

in april on the 6th of april

uh and another one in june on the 28th

to zero of june

and um

these three webinars are meant to

explore um and to show you what the mrs

the master by research in sport health

and applied science

can offer to you and can do for you for

your career um and so on and so forth

so let me just sorry uh do it in this

way which is much better um so what we

are going to do in this first

of the three webinars so i'm going to um

uh to show you um

in a way around if you like mary's even

if

um just virtually uh and around um the

emre well you know just to show you what

the emirates is uh

what you will be studying how you will

be studying

and so on um and so forth

and um i will also um at the at the end

of this presentation

um i will uh go over

some of the um sport facilities we have

here

and uh in the other uh two um webinars

the one in april and the one in june uh

we will explore uh a bit more um other

aspects also mary's and other aspects of

the mrs

as well

but let us

let us start so just to give you a bit

of an idea of

what um simmering uh summery sees and

where we are so let me just put this one

here so we are not far from um central

london we are um about um 24 uh me no 30

minutes maximum

from

the heart of london from central london

and

um london can be reached uh very easily

um and they can be literally easily both

by bus

uh and also by uh by train so um we are

in uh twickenham and more specifically

we are in um in strawberry hill

um and

the other important thing to keep in

mind is that there is a

railway station a strawberry hill

station

which connects um strawberry hill to uh

to london waterloo

which is

one of the central uh railway stations

um here in london

so um in terms of

the campus um here there are

two images two maps

of the two campuses that we have one is

the main campus

where where we are well for example um

i'm

you know live streaming from

and

as you can see is a very uh green area

uh we are

very fortunate to be in a very leafy

area of of london we are very close to

bushy park and also to richmond park

which

bush park richmond park they can be both

of them reached by foot in a just 10-15

minutes that way we should park about 10

minutes 15 minutes in richmond park

probably in about 20 minutes 25 minutes

um and

we have another campus which is called

tarrington lock

which is primarily um for i mean there

is a a quite large

football and rugby peach

and also here you have some

lecture rooms classrooms and so on so

forth and

you can reach it quite easily by fruit

is about i would say about 10 minutes by

foot as well

and this gives you a bit of an idea of

our main campus so this area here you

have a bit of an idea here

so this is strawberry hill house

which is

a listed building

and it is a heritage um of uh not just

of london muslims of england and this is

uh this is part of our campus this is

the main building

of our campus and this is an image of

our um of our gym

um so which uh sports center more than a

gym and there are different

uh activities that can be done in this

four center um and it was it's quite

recent it was open in

2011 um so

slightly more than 10 years ago

and

it was

fully refurbished and

it offers quite a lot of different

facility different sports and so on and

so forth and obviously as students of of

the mris you will have access to all

these facilities and i think there are

also some quite nice uh discounts

um another thing that now i want to show

you

um is i want just to give you a tour uh

even if it is a virtual tour of um of

saint mary's

so this gives a bit of an idea of where

things are

so we have our um chapel here at the sun

at the center of um of the campus

um this is the truck um which is you can

you can see here part of it at least um

which is a

mufara athletic track we have also the

rugby pitch here um and then we have a

tv studio a design um we have the piazza

and so on and so forth

so if i click here it will start i'm

showing you

um hopefully uh a bit of the uh give you

give you the tool and i will

walk you through it

uh so it's a bit slow

i apologize for that

okay

let's do that so um

this gives you a bit

of an idea of where things are so we

have our tv studio the design suite

as i said the chapel there is also a

commuter hub for example if you are

commuting um this is our commuter hub

which is quite a nice place where people

can um

can either stay or there are also some

lockers here that you can use if you

want to put your belongings there while

going to classes and so on so forth so

this is gives a bit of an idea of

the commuter lounge

um if i go back i think i can go back um

i believe

um if it doesn't allow me um

so this gives a bit of an idea of the

commuter lounge

and um again

um

just to give you um an idea of other

places that we have

um this is uh the athletic track

um which is the center mo farah once and

again um if um you uh need to use it you

can book it and you can use it so again

just to give you a bit of of an idea

what uh you know what is available these

are some of our um

uh accommodations for students

which are here at the back there are

other accommodations and so on and so

forth

so let us go back um to our um

our uh

lecture what

not lecture is a presentation

um so in terms of the key facts facts

sorry about the medicine so we are quite

a small university um we have 6 000

students

between undergrad and postgrad students

um one of the

main um

if you like advantages of the mary's is

really the size

uh because we are

a small um university um then as you

have seen also from from the you know

the images accomplished i showed you um

you know everything is quite it's quite

compact everything is basically here so

people come to know each other very

easily which is very important for our

students and also for the emirates

students

to um

to you know come to know people who do

different masters or do phd and so on

and so forth some of our masters

students work with phd students who are

working in a similar area and then

98 percent of some men's graduates they

are in employment um or

further studies or

they do vocational um courses within 15

months

of graduation which is

quite um quite

quite important for us to know that our

students

go on with their with their lives and

they um they go on and um either

they uh they go they go and work or they

become practitioners

uh or they keep um standing

um we are number one in london for

course satisfaction in teaching

satisfaction so our students are

quite happy um with

the

student experience and learning

experience that they have

uh here at uh sms

they are uh usually very satisfied with

the courses

both undergrad and uh master courses and

also phds

um and

we really try um to create a

i'm not saying

not necessarily a family environment

certainly that's a very strong sense of

community where um everybody you know

knows that there is a help available if

they need help

um people to talk to um basically here

is um both you know students and staff

they are never left alone if i may say

so

um we are the second safest university

in london um we are um you know a very

safe place in particular because

um of uh of our um you know kind of

definitely we we really have a neat

source which is a castle

ethos which means we really um cherish

others uh we

want to help others uh we respect others

and so on and so forth so for us uh

respect is extremely important

generosity of spirit is also uh

essential so

our students and staff feel very safe

here is a safe place where people can

really express themselves and flourish

and we are a top four in the uk for

our uh sports facilities

and also uh because 22 of our alumni are

um athletes elite athletes and

olympic athletes and i will talk a bit

more about that in just one one moment

so

let us come now to the emirates which is

uh really the the point it will point to

this webinar so why stand them right and

why sounds embarrassed here is a

medicine well um you know first of all

the the emirates which is the master by

research the um approach we have here is

america uh to the mrs is a um high

flexible approach which means we use the

high flex so-called high flex

um learning um and teaching

and

this is very important

that we have the high flex uh approach

the highly flexible approach because it

means

the students even if

they

they are not here um in london

and they have difficulties in um

in commuting for example

or they are overseas students

they can

you know

take the emirates

they don't have to be on campus at all

um

many of our rooms are high flex

rooms which means they give the

opportunity um to students to choose

if they wanted to be with us

or if they wanted to um

to basically follow uh from home or

whatever they are so if they want to

live stream if you would if they want to

follow uh by live streaming or if they

want to be on campus with us so the four

classes are a bit of a mixed um some

students are with us in the classroom

some other some other students they

follow us through the live streaming so

that is the high flex

approach which is um which is quite an

important part of the embrace because

uh students feel very comfortable with

other very very happy with this uh with

this approach in particular this is

quite important for students who have

other commitments students who are

working for example uh the majority i

would say of our emirates students um

are

working

um and so they find extremely useful um

not you know if they can't come on

campus this doesn't mean that they're

losing out because they follow by the

live streaming and they can still

participate very actively um

to the to the class um because of the

high flex

approach

and the other thing that they can really

tailor their studies around their life

and their work um you know as i said the

majority of our students uh work also so

they have working commitments some other

students they work and also have family

commitments so they find extremely

useful uh this approach uh the other

important thing with the embrace being a

master by research rather than being a

total master

um the main um

the main focus is on the development

of uh skills in terms of being a

researcher now one thing that i want to

mention here is

that is you know the embrace is not uh

only for people who want to do research

you want you know to become academics

far from it

uh many of our students are

practitioners

um but even if you are a practitioner

is important that you understand what

research is and what it means

to have skills as a researcher because

even if you are a practitioner still you

need to keep up with what is happening

in your

field of practice which means you know

you needed to develop those keys which

will allow you and you know to have a a

lifelong learning approach to your

practice

and then uh the main um

you know

the core and the heart if you like of

the mrs is the research project

so you will undertake an in-depth and

extended research project which will

cover will um basically you will start

is in semester two and you will go on

into semester three which means

you start at the beginning uh of the

year usually january or february and

then you continue uh through the summer

to work on your project

the other important aspect of the mrs is

that you will learn

from a multidisciplinary team of experts

in sport health and applied sciences

now because the mrs um is you know cover

these three different areas it means

i mean you can obviously and some of our

students do that you can focus on just

one of these elements either

sport or health or applied sciences

or otherwise you can mix them in

whichever way

you like

for example some of our students

they take applied sciences for example

psychology

and they mix it if you like uh with

uh sometimes sports sometimes education

uh we have currently students

which is

doing a psychology-based

project so is applied science

but the the you know the if you like um

the emphasis is on education so then uh

this particular students um uh in in a

way bridges education and psychology so

you can really um follow um you know

whatever

interest you have so you don't have to

do something which is in a way

already set for you

um i'm sorry let me just do that

so who's the for the emirates for well

as i was saying is suitable for i would

say the majority of the students

um students as i was saying who are not

necessarily local uh so they don't live

in london area uh or some of our

students for example find it difficult

to commute

um

we also introduced the high flex because

obviously of the copy the situation

we are slowly slowly going back to

normal our students are back on campus

but but as you can well imagine in the

past two years this was impossible

uh so we have to adapt

but this was a very good um you know

exercise for us because

uh that's when we introduced the high

flex and we are going to keep it because

we we saw the advantage um and the many

students um as i was saying that they

are scattered all over the uk or they

are even overseas um people as i was

saying earlier who have work other

commitments family commitments and so on

so forth

but also students who come from

different backgrounds for example people

who have background in sport in

biomechanics

biomedical sciences

or even in some kind in some in some

cases medicine

rehabilitation it can be either

physiotherapy or sport rehab health

sciences public health

psychology

which includes also counseling

it can be

then a neuroscience as well we had the

lastia students who did a project on

neuroscience

cognitive science behavior behavioral

neuroscience and so on so forth it can

be also nutrition it can be biology it

can be chemistry um it can be um even

physics so we have students who did that

so it's really for every um background i

would say

of knowledge not just a sport or health

or applied sciences

so the further question is for how

you will be taught

so in terms of how you will be taught um

you will be taught

in

you know using lectures

using seminars using workshops

and above all regular meetings with your

supervisory team because um being as i

was saying an embracing so based on

research the research project is really

the heart

of um of the

you know of the mrs

so in terms of thought modules so there

are three modules uh in uh in total

uh out of the three two are taught they

are both taught in semester one

one is the skills for researchers and

one is advanced research methods both of

them are 20 credits which means uh 20

credits in terms of you know how much

time you needed to to spend on it

on each of these modules uh bear in mind

that one credit is um usually

about 10 hours of um of engagement

which means 20 credits is equivalent to

200 hours of

independence independent studies

including

lecture seminars workshops and also the

meetings you have with your um

supervisor and this the 200 hours also

include the assignment preparation now

it's not that you have to do everything

in 200 hours far from it is a minimum

obviously you know um if you put more

hours is absolutely fine we don't

complain about that

on the contrary

um these two modules are quite different

from one another

so let me just

show you

um for example i have it open here this

is the skills for research this is

moodle

you will

access all the material via via moodle

which is our virtual learning um

platform and just to show you what it

looks like

um so you have all the resources which

means textbooks and journals

um here

you are told what kind of assessment you

will have um i i want just to clarify

there are no exams uh there are only

coursework uh for both

modules

um and then

um you have here the different um

materials that each is covered every

week uh students come um on campus all

it is they have lectures once a week

usually on tuesdays

um and they have um one module in the

morning and one module in the afternoon

and the rest of the week uh either they

come because they work on their projects

or sometimes they just don't come

because they have working or family

commitments but they know that for uh

the lectures the workshops the you know

the contact hours if you like they are

just one day which is usually is the

tuesday

um we also have a very successful

journal club so as part of this module

for example we ask the students to um

each of each students

you know not every week but we do it i

think um a few a few times uh four or

five times we ask the students to share

uh a journal or sorry an article uh that

you know they they are interested in etc

so it gives the students an opportunity

to share their interest with the others

and usually very nice discussions

uh come you know come from this exercise

and students are quite happy with the

journal club because they can share what

they're passionate about which is very

important to them

and and then um

you know we also um

for example show them how

to write a review paper or how to review

um

a a manuscript um just to give them the

sense of what

you know being a researcher um is all

about and then as i was saying

for example if i click on this one here

you have

all you know the material and all the

lectures are also required the live

stream but also recorded and so the

students can um watch the recording as

many times as they like or if they can't

attend they can always watch the

recording

so um

and then

as i said the modules are all of them

delivered in high flex mode um and as i

showed you they are supported by the

online materials which is available on

um on moodle and also sometimes we have

a discussion forums where students can

for example post a question and their

peers can answer the particular question

which is again uh the students like to

engage with this exercise and to help

each other is quite important for the

students and we see the benefit

of of this type of approach

um

the other module that i was talking

about

is a supervised research project

um it is

another another module uh which starts

in semester two just to be clear

semester one starts from september um or

well in our case uh

i would say october

for example this year we started the

emerald started on 4th of october 2021

and usually semester one finishes in

december

then the semester to start um at the

either end of january or beginning of

february this year we started at the

beginning of february and semester two

we finish in may

and then uh in june semester three

starts and it ends in august

so therefore you will start working on

your project

um

at the end of january beginning of

february and you will finish

um

maybe july august and they you have to

submit your dissertation by september

usually mid-september and as part of

this module there is also a viva

which means you have to prepare an aura

presentation uh and the present you are

your project um to uh to an audience

basically and also this is marked

now you can either develop your own

research project that's what the

majority of the students do

and you have to submit a proposal

as part of

one of the modules in semester one

you can also choose one of the research

projects which are offered by the

faculty

by faculty members and

um you know there are

a lot of very interesting um

uh

projects uh on offer in uh very

different areas for example we have

projects on offer in as i'm saying

cognitive science or skill acquisition

uh or female health and well-being uh

also uh gender and sexuality that is

some projects are on this

particular topic or injury and sport

rehabilitation lifestyle management

this is another topic uh prevention of

chronic diseases and also management of

chronic diseases

um biomechanics and also uh

musculoskeletal biomechanics again it

can be another topic for the project

uh sports psychology professional

practice

uh nutrigenetics and nutrigenomics again

there are projects on that or sport and

exercise physiology so as you can see

the range of topic you can explore is

quite impressive and substantial we also

have specific research centers we have

three research centers i will talk about

them in just an instant

uh here in the faculty and uh each

center uh

you know has a kind of um themes which

are called research themes

um and you can do your project as part

of one of these research centers if you

so wish obviously

now i put here some examples of past

research projects for example one

research pro project um in past years

was for example the effects of law load

blood flow restriction training compared

to heavy load resistance training on

muscular adaptation this was a

systematic review

another

project was comparing gps units and

their ability to measure team sport

metrics and predictors of uh agility

performance in academic footballers this

was um a more experimental flight type

or project and i also put here two

projects which um you know they they

you know the the outcomes of these two

projects were then published and i put

here

the links uh to the uh to the two

publications if you are interested in

so these are just two examples but

um

you know some of our uh students publish

their dissertation so as you can see the

the level and the quality of the produce

is so uh so high uh that the outcomes

are you know uh publishable which is

extremely important as you can see this

happened um very recently this is the

last year and this is the year before

so

in terms of learning material so we have

we have already covered moodle so this

is the the landing page of moodle and

then if you keep if you click here on my

course you will see your courses as i

showed you for the skills for researcher

for researchers

module

the library uh also we have um two

libraries one here on campus

and we have another library which is

outside campus but the one that you will

be using primarily is the one on campus

the one outside campus the nailer

library

is changing a bit

it was primarily for education

uh i think they are changing its slides

but the library that you will probably

be using most of the time is here the

one on campus and i put here a link

our library has a quite nice

website

and

there are some of our rooms are 24 7

access which means

by using your student card that you can

access these spaces this is for example

um

on the ground floor of the library and

it is a 24 7 access space you have

access to computers or you can use your

own laptop

but if you needed to uh you know

sometimes to

to study i'm not saying overnight uh

by all means i hope this will not happen

but if you need to access

um you know early morning or late in the

evening you can do that

and then

there are some free softwares that you

can use

um you can loan a laptop if something

happens to your laptop it crashes or

whatever you can always uh get a laptop

on loan

and you can also book study spaces so we

have quite a few of study spaces either

you can study individually uh in one of

the study spaces or or as a group so as

you can see there are quite a lot of

um

you know of important uh not information

here

and a lot of facilities that you

obviously can

can use and you are encouraged um to use

so what are the skills you will be

acquiring as part of the embrace there

are quite a lot of skills as i was

saying at the very beginning these are

not just skills that you learn um just

because um you um

you know you you you want to become a

researcher far from it

some of our

not some the majority of the say of our

students uh you know they are

practitioners

some of them obviously um they go on and

do phd uh we have a number of students

who uh you know they

continue and they do a phd uh

either here as a medic or externally and

we have quite a number of them um

or if you are working you can then apply

the skills uh that you learn uh here you

know as part of the mrs you can apply

them to you know your own work to your

own job and that is what um you know

many of our students do as i was saying

many of our students work uh many of

them uh for example they follow uh from

their working place they follow you know

the live streaming all the lectures from

their uh working places

um

and then you know

many of them

then they tell us that they use what you

know they they learn on the program on

the mri emirates they use it uh you know

in their daily work even during the

embrace

and in particular because they start

having they started developing our

students a very strong understanding and

the very solid knowledge in whatever

area um you know

they they wanted to focus on

uh you then always learn how to collect

data and how to analyze the data um from

a statistical point of view uh we make

the point to cover both quantitative

methods but also qualitative methods

some of our students

do qualitative research so they find it

very useful

and then also how you can design

um a you know a research project which

as i was saying is not research is not

that you do just because you are an

academic and you work in academia which

means in a university or you work as a

research and industry not at all

as i was saying earlier research

feeds in any anything you do

if you are a practitioner you have to

keep up with what is happening in your

you know line of work

which means you know even if you read uh

for example a a paper which has been

published and

maybe on new techniques used in

physiotherapy for example

well that is research because you are

researching and you are trying to learn

uh new things um in order to inform your

own practice

um

then

the other thing that i want to share

with you is what we do

do we do here sm medicine what you will

be exposed to uh while studying with us

so

you know our um

efforts are really to contribute uh to

communities not just locally not just to

local um communities but also to

contribute

to communities in general so many of our

um

you know faculty members and students as

well um master students

many times undergraduate undergrad

students phd students they really work

on projects which then have either an

impact a quite strong impact on uh

communities for example the well-being

of people

in particular for example students who

do physiotherapy or

rehabilitation for example we have a

clinic here which is run by students a

clinic which is open

to the public so you don't

don't have to be a staff member

or the student as a medic everybody uh

can uh can walk in

um and the clinic is run by students

obviously they're supervised um by uh

you know by a staff member that is

obvious um but you know

they they offer many different types of

um physiotherapy or rehabilitation or

any other type of help

um to um you know to to people uh we

have also uh you know students who then

practice uh counseling for example or

they practice um you know what they

learn in nutrition or the practice was a

learner in physiotherapy rehabilitation

and so on and so forth

so really um our effort is to

contribute to and to advance

knowledge about you know how we can

improve school physiology or sports

psychology coaching

um we have a very strong for example

physical education uh department and you

know unit um here

um sport performance skill acquisition

nutrition sport nutrition you name it i

mean we really

want to make

people lives better and really care for

uh for for people and their well-being

and we want really to enhance the

people's quality of life

some of our colleagues and also our

students for example one of our current

mrs students is working on um

on that which means

is working on

um you know the application of

psychology um to uh you know people who

um have lost a limb or you know they

have a prosthetic

or they are you know they have some kind

of disabilities so one of our students

is working on that

which obviously this type of project

have

you know will have a very strong impact

on people with either disabilities which

are for example paralympic

athletes or uh people who are wearing a

prosthetic and so on and so forth

um

so

and as i was saying we have research

centers we have three of them

so the first one is the center for

applied performance science

and this center has a um you know

kind of strange or things one is

performance and practice

another one is injury and rehabilitation

we also have uh one um

theme is a recovery and another team is

an occupational health and performance

we also have a center for applied social

and health sciences

so this particular um

center

is focusing on the contemporary issues

within uh the field of applied social

and health sciences

and the encompasses really research the

spans many diverse topics which are

relevant to health to well-being

social and

developmental sciences

we have a fourth

sentence called swift which is a sport

well-being inclusion and faith center

and

the director of the center very kindly

has agreed to

talk

to it

about it oh sorry i have to sign in all

right let me do that sorry just in one

second i thought it would work

i'm sorry about that give me just

one little second

okay just give me one little second i

would just stop the sharing for one

second just easier for me

um

[Music]

and let's do that

sorry about that

um he didn't ask me for that earlier but

i think he's quite a very nice

um sorry

sorry

he's just asking me to

uh

sorry

to approve

my signing

we have a lot of security uh

digitally speaking

now we should be happy i think

yes

okay let me just share my screen again

sorry oh sorry it's not working

uh okay so let me try in another way

because it worked earlier

so let me try in another way sorry about

that

um because it is a very nice video that

i really wish to share with you

so let's do it in this way it should

work in this way let me just share the

game my screen with you i do apologize

for this little

um hiccup oh sorry

technical hiccup

abby brady i'm the director of the swift

research center here at submerged

university

so what is this research center so set

up in some areas in 2019

very much emerged out of a partnership

with the former organization called

chopra foundation for sport

and

the swift research center

meaningful research

and being of service to our community

i'd like to just share with you some of

the areas of

swift

and that's an acronym for sports will be

inclusion and faith on

so on this side you can see four areas

with uh that identify a number of topics

this sport will be

inclusion

and under these are a number of topics

key topics

certainly not in any way intended to be

exclusionary rather than just uh

indicative

topics and some of the things we may

study after those headings

and the center

of this you can see considered to

example like character virtues and

hearing the voice of participants

when we say protestants we don't just

meet the athletic participants but all

of those people that take part

be that coaches other staff

and parents in case of people teachers

hispanic sports or pe

so

really we're very interested in hearing

from many people

you may wish to pause this presentation

just because some of the different areas

of the cover here there's two men

waiting for me to just go over

but

this may be a point to

just start to consider well why have we

become interested

in the

focus of swift

why these areas

you may well have your own very strong

opinions or ideas

about these areas somehow

some of the things that

we really think you're very interested

in

it's about addressing the myths and

assumptions about sport physical

education physical activity

example that would be the assumption

that

positive outcomes

are associated or in some way guaranteed

through participation in sport

the sport may be a social panacea so in

some ways

resolving the ills of society simply by

having involvement in sport

now of course

sport can

bring many positive outcomes and support

can

contribute

to

many benefits in society

that these things

aren't guaranteed

in some circumstances they may bring

incredible benefits but in other

circumstances they actually may bring

other problems or challenges

and so we're very interested in

providing

rigorous evidence-based before we

understand the conditions

sport physical education physical

activity can really make a positive

contribution that's individuals groups

communities or society at large

and

those conditions are characteristics of

which

sport physical education physical

activity

they in fact impair or in some way

challenge

or

diminish the benefits would like to see

in order to undertake our research and

to focus our activities we've identified

four themes i'm going to show these on

the next slide

and on this slide we can see the themes

that represent the areas that swift

focuses on at the present time

these themes are positive youth

development in sports and physical

education

social justice sports

education

professional development practice

physical education

and faith spirituality physical activity

and each of these headaches you can see

just some examples of support errors

usually in most cases just a couple of

examples of sorts of topics that may be

encompassed

within that area

what's very important

is that we're

trying to create a rigorous effort in

space and that means

taking a critical position

being aware of

both ways sports office collaborative

particular education may be

embracing

really positive

attributes creating

a number of benefits but also being

really aware and very open to

appreciating that may not always be the

case

so in some instances

we might find for example

we might challenge the beliefs that

talent

is an innate quality

and that some people are just really

gifted versus the idea that talent or

certainly proficiency and expertise

is developed

we may further consider ideas around the

role of teachers and coaches and parents

siblings and peers in the development of

talent expertise

we may look at the form of adversity

in the pursuit of excellence so there

are many ways that we could

look at

any many issues associated with these

four themes

so there's lots of work to do

and we need

enthusiastic

open to learning

researchers

who wish to join us

in attempting to develop

this knowledge through a range of

different methodologies

so

if you're interested

in us taking

research

and or projects that are of service to

our community

and through the

completion of that research could make a

valuable contribution to the advanced

knowledge and we'd be very interested to

hear from you

and so for more information

please contact myself my details at the

beginning or with this better connector

that's the marriage strategy

okay so sorry let me just um

let me just stop the sharing for a

minute

uh it's just easier to come out

um okay

so

as you have seen um you know his abi the

director of the center as uh you know

very clearly showed you so swift is is

is the center um for people who really

want to work um at the interface

so um

the other thing that i want just to um

talk about in this webinar as i was

saying at the beginning

um in the other two seminars the one on

sixth of april

and the last one which will be on the

28th the 2-0 of june uh you know we will

be uh exploring other aspects of the

mary's and you know uh also of the mrs

obviously so we sorted to um you know to

divide there is basically so much to say

about the emirates and you know the

opportunities

um for students who are um you know

studying with us on the rise that we

thought to kind of create a series of

webinars

um the other thing that i want just to

say all the webinars will be um they are

recorded and they will be made available

on the website of the mls but i will say

a bit more about that at the end

so what i want just to share with you

just you know a few slides on uh

you know the sport facilities which we

we have here sm meris so as i was saying

at the beginning semester has quite a

you know a

very long and successful story and you

know history muslim story uh in sport so

22

of uh of our um

alumni are

olympic athletes um and they competed at

the rio 2016 olympic and the paralympic

games

um and they won six uh medals

some of them they were selected uh to

represent the uk at the 2018

commonwealth games and they won three

medals

um and we were also the medici for the

base for the rugby world cup in 2015

um we were also based um and we were at

the training center uh for the london

2012 olympics and also for the 2017

world champions championship and

obviously as you can well many

imagine uh one of the probably uh

best known and most famous alumni is

mary's is sir mo farah and i

let us see if it works there is

hopefully it will work um i think

it should at least um a very brief video

on

um let's see if it works

[Music]

so

so

so

so

so

so

so as you can see sorry again let me

just come out of here if i can

um

sorry let me just stop again sharing

just easier to come out of these things

um so as you can see many of the uh

you know of our students um they have

one medals

uh in uh you know particularly in rio so

just to give you a bit of of a sense of

you know the successes of the medics in

terms of sport and also again for the

students our emirates students who

decide um to focus our attention on

sport um

you know they can still

i mean this our students um can uh have

access to such elite athletes because

these elite athletes have still a link

uh with the medicine um some of them are

still coming

not necessarily on a regular basis but

they still come to some medicine so

there is and um i know that some of our

students work with these elite athletes

also as part of their projects which is

quite exciting for them and also for us

another thing i want to mention that our

students mrs students use one of the

facilities as i said the emirates

students who decide

uh to focus more on sport is our

endurance and performance center called

the peck

and again this is the center

which is

a very important center

it has a lot of facilities in particular

stance and conditioning and again just a

very i thought to share with you this um

very short um video oops sorry is just

giving me a bit of problems um at the

moment i don't think i can

um

sorry share it with you um but you it is

available on our web or on our website

cement's website uh which gives you a

bit of um an idea of uh of the pack

um which is a

very

you know

if you like sophisticated and well

equipped

center for sport

we also have

the

women's high performance football center

which is

linked to the london irish

um

rfc

and again there are a lot of sport and

health services

um like body composition environmental

training metabolic assessment and

physiological profiles and again our

students emirates students have access

to all that to these facilities if as i

was saying earlier they decide

to uh to use them or if they think these

facilities can be of use um you know to

carry out their research project

um and just you know to finish um

just the contacts here so this is me uh

i'm elisabeth um and if you need to

contact me by all means drop me an email

you can also uh contact um our associate

dean for research uh dr jimmy north and

uh this is the uh the link to the

website

um of the uh of the mrs

um which this is the website of of the

mrs so you have a bit more information

about the mrs um

you know we have uh uh kind of cover

some of it um in them in this webinar

you have here quite nice

links um to the different uh to what our

uh

you know staff members in the faculty do

in terms of research gives you really a

sense of the extent

of knowledge in sport health and applied

science we have here some medicine

and again these are the kind of um uh

you know different topics you can

explore uh as part of your studies and

the other projects so if you want to

know more by all means explore um here

and these are the other two as i was

saying webinars um one on the sixth of

april at 5 pm and the second one on the

28th of june at 1 pm and again it will

be recorded as well and uploaded on

on the website

and um so this is me as you can see if

you

need to contact me by all means do so

uh these are the entire requirements if

you uh you know want to explore uh more

uh if you want to know more about the

course content by all means it gives you

a bit of an idea um of what each module

is all about

um and as i said whatever you need just

um let us know just contact us

it's always a pleasure to hear uh from

uh from our uh students perfect you know

even uh prospective students um and we

try to answer all your questions it has

been a pleasure to share this uh past

hour with you i hope you uh you found

the presentation interesting

uh and i hope uh to see you um you know

to see you soon uh we have also some um

open evenings uh coming coming up i

think one is at the end of march and the

other one is sometime in may so if you

want to come on campus and uh you know

meet all of us in person by all means

do come

come you know

you can attend this open evening since

they usually start to think 5 p.m

and it will be just a

you know a delight

to to meet you and uh to talk to you but

thank you for for listening and

hopefully i will see you soon you take

care of yourself thank you and bye
