Smart TVs are connected wirelessly or wired to a LAN cable. But what if your Smart TV is still buffering? What if your gamers are still laggy? This happens because of a slow internet connection - so here is how to boost your internet speed and get faster wifi so you can fix that!

USB to LAN adaptor: https://geni.us/USBtoLAN (Affiliate Link)

COMMON SENSE NOTE: There are literally thousands of makes and models of TVs around the world and obviously I can't test them all. You now know the concept of what you are looking for so now read/ Google your own TV's manual to make sure your TV can do this. You can always use the adaptor on other devices like a computer or return it if doesn't work with your particular TV.

how do you go from this

to this

by changing only one thing how could i

have had a smart tv forever and i'm only

discovering this now so if you're like

me when you bought your smart tv you

probably looked at things like the size

and 4k versus 8k does it have roku or

google tv and of course the price you

probably assume that since this is a

smart tv it just connects to the

internet which of course it does

otherwise not much of a smart tv is it

but since you've set up your tv how much

thought have you given to the way it

connects to the internet i personally

have given it absolutely zero thoughts i

just followed the on-screen prompts and

set it up and pretty much never looked

back i just assumed that hey sometimes

the tv buffers and such is life but

there is indeed a better way smart tvs

typically connect to the internet in one

of two ways it could be wirelessly or it

could be wired let's start with wireless

depending on when you bought your tv it

may connect to the wi-fi network at

either 2.4 gigahertz or 5 gigahertz or

both typically you choose the 5

gigahertz because of course technically

it's faster than 2.4 gigahertz and

remember that 5 gigahertz may be faster

however the tv needs to be positioned

close to the router as the 5 gigahertz

has a shorter range than 2.4 gigahertz

now newer tv are now connected at wi-fi

6 which is the latest evolution of wi-fi

now whilst wi-fi is perfectly fine just

like any other wi-fi device on your

network it can suffer from instability

and buffering as all the devices on the

wi-fi network are competing for that

bandwidth okay let's see what we're

dealing with here so right now network

and internet settings on my smart tv

it's currently connected to the wi-fi at

five gigahertz and we're gonna run the

good old-fashioned speed test yes this

is a simple app that you can just

download from the store on your tv so

92.42 is a download and 56.92

is the upload okay i'm perfectly

acceptable not so bad so what you

ideally want to do is connect your smart

tv to a wired lan connection a wired

connection is going to give you not only

the stability you want and the maximum

bandwidth of your network but by taking

the tv off the wi-fi it means it's one

less bandwidth hungry wi-fi device so

your other devices can also have a nice

improvement now let's go into settings

this time i'm going to disable my wi-fi

and then i'm going to connect my lan

cable because as we know when you

hardwire something in you're supposed to

get the maximum speed out of your

network maximum stability let's see what

difference this makes to the speed test

so plug the little sucker in and let's

go re-run that speed test under my

settings there's my app click on that

and then click on start and now i should

get a nice fast connection what do i get

okay 30 70 90

still kept 94 as a download and then at

least the uploads improved a little bit

so why is that what's actually going on

here if you run the same speed test on

your tv you will notice that your tv

isn't getting the maximum speed you pay

for from your internet provider and that

is because many tvs have a built-in

network interface card that has a

maximum of 100 megabits per second so

even if you have a 200 or a 500 megabits

per second internet package the most you

will get out of your tv is still a

hundred technically this is fine as

something like netflix only needs 25

megabits per second for 4k streaming but

what if you do more with your smart tv

than just watch netflix i mean you do

know that your smart tv allows you to do

more than just screen movies right you

can browse the web you can stream and

play online games you can scroll through

social media you can download

interactive workout apps and a whole

bunch more and all of those certainly

want more bandwidth so how can you get

around that 100 megabits per second

limitation simple you get yourself one

of these let me introduce you to the

ethernet adapter this is a usb 3 on the

one side and on the other side it's got

a gigabit ethernet port and now look

what we're going to do we're going to

take this and plug it into the regular

usb port at the back of the tv click

that in there we're gonna then take out

the lan cable from the back of the tv

and plug it straight into this adapter

let that click in

and then let's rerun a good old speed

test

what scores do we have to beat well the

download was 94.61 and the upload was

97.36

that was without the adapter now that we

have the adapter in there let's see what

we're gonna get okay and already check

this out

243.87 on the download and look at the

upload 310 you see how we use a simple

adapter to get around that limitation

it's crazy how much of a difference this

11 little guy can make i love it when

tech can be simple and effective but

whilst you're waiting for your adapter

to arrive check out this video over here

where i show you how to stop your smart

tv from spying on you yes that's the

thing also check out this video over

here that youtube thinks you should

watch hit the head down here to

subscribe and i will see you in this

video or this video or i'll see you in

both let's go
