The Top 10 Animated Movies on 4K UHD Blu-ray

everyone what's going on Jeff here from

films at home and today I'm going to

cover my top 10 animated movies on 4K

Ultra HD Blu-ray

hey everyone thanks for coming back to

the channel today for this video today

we're going to be talking through my

picks for my top 10 animated movies on

the 4K Blu-ray format now I will say

there's lots of great animated movies in

fact animated movies may be some of the

best looking movies on the format

especially because of the way HDR really

makes animated movies just pop off your

screen but I had to pick 10 animated

movies and that is my list so we're

going to go in order from 10 down to

number one give you them in order of my

favorite so you know 10 is pretty good

it made the top 10 list but number one

that's my favorite of all time I'll talk

briefly about each one of these and in

the video description there will be

links where you can pick each one of

these up if you want to add it to your

collection so let's kick things off

right now with number 10 and that's

going to be Ralph breaks the internet I

really loved this one when it came out

on 4K it has excellent HDR but it also

being a Disney title has some of the

better Atmos that I've heard on any

Disney or Pixar track typically the

Disney Atmos mixes are a little bit

below average but this one was early

enough in the 4K format that I think

they were still giving some emphasis to

physical media and really focusing on

the atmos tracks for physical and that's

why we get such a great Atmos track here

I was really impressed with it now this

movie also just has beautiful animation

a pretty funny storyline I love John C

Reilly as Ralph and I thought that the

colors do really pop this is one of

those movies that's going to have your

entire color gamut and if you've got

that HDR technology and you've got a

nice OLED TV or something higher end

you're gonna have a really good time

with Ralph breaks the internet now

coming in at number nine I know that

this one is a mix of live action and

animation but I had to add it to the

list because it still is one of my

favorite 4K discs especially for color

and that is detective Pikachu now the

animation in this I think is pretty

outstanding and the colors that neon

light color that is throughout this

movie because of like the cityscape and

where they're hanging out where

detective Pikachu takes place just looks

amazing now if I remember correctly it's

only a 2K digital intermediate so this

is actually a 4K upscale but I don't

think you guys are going to mind because

the HDR is so good that it makes up for

any lack of resolution there which

honestly isn't that big a deal this also

has another great Dolby Atmos track so

if you're buying these discs not only

for your great visuals but also for

great audio you get top tier Atmos with

this release as well so it's well worth

owning and if you're a Pokemon fan or

you're a kid like me who grew up in the

90s and has that Nostalgia this movie's

a ton of fun Ryan Reynolds is excellent

as Pikachu now coming in at number eight

I picked the only illumination title on

my list illumination has a lot of great

stuff their Despicable Me movies are

certainly pretty decent looking secret

life of pets looks pretty good but the

one that continued to blow me away every

time I watched it was Sing Sing has some

really cool animation in that typical

illumination style so if you like that

style you'll enjoy this and the colors

are are pretty good visuals are great

colors are pretty good the HDR really

does help a lot with this 4K disc and

and takes it to the next level of the

Blu-ray but this one really made the

list because of the atmos Singh has some

awesome musical moments in the atmos

track really pumps through your system

so if you're looking for a fun movie to

watch with the kids family movie night

and you want something that's going to

work out your surround sound system and

give you a good time as well Singh Is

Gonna definitely be one you want to

check out this is I think illumination

entertainment's best animated 4K disc

now coming in at number seven this movie

is not the best movie on this list by

any means in fact it probably is the one

I like the least but I had to put it on

the list because of its just incredible

visuals and that is the Angry Birds 2

movie right the or the Angry Birds movie

2 or I don't know it says the Angry

Birds 2 movie but anyway this is one of

the few discs out there that actually

has an IMAX enhanced picture and sound

so you get an IMAX enhanced dtsx and you

get HDR but the IMAX enhanced visuals

that's something that not a lot of disks

have and it looks absolutely outstanding

on disk here the reason not a lot of

disks have that is because I assume that

there's some licensing fees and it can

be pretty expensive so it's interesting

that a movie like Angry Birds 2 gets

that experience but if you're looking

for top-notch audio and absolutely blow

you away visuals The Angry Birds 2 even

though it's not the best movie in the

world is certainly one that you can at

least put on with your family and with

your kids and you can enjoy the way that

this looks because it's a beautiful

sounding and a beautiful looking disc

coming in at number six I've got another

Disney Pixar title and that's going to

be Coco this one makes the list

primarily again for the colors the way

that this looks especially on a higher

end TV or an OLED the colors are just

amazing and it looks pretty damn good on

Disney plus that stream is is pretty

impressive when it comes to the 4K

visual but this disc just takes it to

the next level now this one also has an

Atmos track Coco being a sort of you

could call it a musical a lot of the

Disney Pixar stuff is musically inclined

at least Coco definitely has more

musical moments than most and the atmos

is just actually pretty good again for

Disney pretty good I don't have as many

issues with Disney Atmos when it comes

to their animated stuff as I do some of

their live actions some of the Marvel

Star Wars stuff it's interesting the

animated stuff seems to always work and

I don't know why that is but this has

amazing HDR color amazing visuals

excellent animation it's also a very

good movie and you're gonna love the way

it sounds now in my number five spot

I've got one from Warner Brothers

believe it or not it's the Lego Batman

movie I really think that this movie

first of all is super underrated as a

movie itself the movie I thought was

fantastic it's a ton of fun you've got

Will Arnett as Batman you got Zach

Galifianakis as the Joker I mean it has

a ton of Great Moments if you're a fan

of Batman like this is a movie you can

pop in with your kids and you don't

necessarily have to watch Like The Dark

Knight or you know the Batman with

Robert Pattinson or something that's

like way more serious and you can still

enjoy Batman this is the Batman I grew

up with that fun animated Batman and I

think what they do with the Lego movies

is also super impressive the animation

is incredible and that all lends to the

way the colors look on the screen it's

an awesome looking picture now this is

another disc here that also has some

great Dolby Atmos I think most of these

have Dolby Atmos and really it's

interesting because when you're doing

animation right you don't have like a

set you don't you're not confined to

this sound you can capture on set and

you can really just go crazy with your

sound design and the atmos I think just

really sounds incredible on a ton of

animated discs because they have

unlimited sound space to work with like

you're not limited by the shot it's CGI

it's animation it's stop motion whatever

it may be it just you can do so much and

I think those Atmos tracks are awesome

and that's probably why the Disney Atmos

on animation stuff is better than their

live action but Lego Batman is a ton of

fun it did not get as much attention as

the first Lego movie but I think it

should and if you like Batman and you

love good animation and you like Lego

this is one to check out now in the

number four spot we're going to go back

to some more Disney Pixar and I've got

to put Moana on this list because of the

color again this is one of the best

looking movies that you can buy on 4K if

you want to work out your TV if you've

got like a new mini LED OLED qled some

something with some really bright colors

you're going to love Moana because this

movie just pops it's just non-stop

there's so many bright colors in this

and then when it does get darker the

Deep blacks look incredible with HDR and

4K and you get these awesome like purple

and pink colors up against them I mean

it's just an entirely incredible visual

experience then once again more great

Atmos I I love the atmos tracks on these

this is a no-brainer for working out

your surround system has some extremely

catchy music that I love and this is a

movie I probably have watched this one

the most of any in this collection it's

one of my wife's favorites we've already

shown it to my son he was super

enthralled by it even being 17 months

old just looking at it so if it can

capture the attention of a toddler it

can definitely capture your attention

and this is a 4K disc that you should

definitely own now in the number three

spot I've got a classic here Toy Story

4. now this was one of the first discs

that I saw that had animation completely

rendered in 4k so this is not 2K

animation that's then upscaled to 4K no

they rendered this at 4K which takes an

immense amount of computing power and

I'm sure time so I give them huge props

but it really does show now I don't love

Toy Story 4 because I'm super partial to

Toy Story 3 and I think that that one

closed the loop up really well with that

series now we're getting Toy Story 5 but

this movie still pretty decent I would

rank it like as a mid-tier Toy Story

movie maybe up there with like Toy Story

2 where Toy Story and Toy Story 3 are

sort of my top rank but it's enjoyable

but the imagery is incredible that 4K

resolution and animation rendered at

true 4K just really looks fantastic once

again you do get an Atmos track here I

think this one's a little bit I would

say less powerful than a couple of the

others I've mentioned Toy Story 4 also

doesn't have as many Musical moments as

like a Moana or coco so you get you know

sort of less of that big theatrical

experience with it although it does have

some very good moments the animation and

the HDR that's the reason to own this

one uh purely going on animation and the

resolution itself this is probably the

most finely detailed CGI animated movie

but there's a couple that I like just a

little bit more coming in at number two

and this was a tough decision I went

back and forth on number one two and

really number three they were all very

close but I've got to put Coraline the

recently released 4K from Shout Factory

in Leica Studios I ranked this as one of

my top 4K discs of 2022 and that's why

it's a no-brainer at number two on the

animated list this is the only

stop-motion movie on this list and that

really contributes a lot to the way that

this looks the stop motion animation

being you know somewhat practical really

looks fantastic and even though this was

upscaled I don't think it really matters

it's just so finely detailed because

it's real it's practical it's stop

motion and the colors on this are just

unbelievable this was a completely new

4k restoration that Shout Factory did

with Leica Studios it blows away any

previously released Blu-ray which even

those were pretty good this blows it

away it has some of the brightest colors

and some of the most striking scenes

that I've seen on any disc period and

again if you've got that nice OLED TV or

something with deep black levels this is

one you can really really show people

the difference between a medium tier TV

and a top tier TV also on this one Atmos

is incredible that might actually be

better than the visuals it's a brand new

7.1 Atmos mix and it just sounds awesome

there's so many great sound design

moments and such a great score and I

just loved the way that this movie

played over Atmos it had so many

different unique little sound moments

that I think it's just it works out your

system in a really interesting way so I

think this is a must-owned disc whether

you like animation or not it's an

incredible restoration and Shout Factory

deserves all the credit and Leica

Studios for the work that they did

together on this one now the number one

disc on my list the best animated 4K

disc I think in my opinion is going to

be Spider-Man Into the spider-verse Now

people may be split on the animation

style of this movie but I thought it was

one of the most unique and just

incredibly well done takes on animation

the fact that they make this movie look

as if you're flipping through the pages

of a comic book but at the same time it

has such beautiful highly detailed

unique animation blew me away when I

first saw it I had heard everybody

talking about you know oh there's an

animated Spider-Man movie you gotta see

it okay yeah I'll check it out when I

put this disc in this was a wake-up

moment for me with how great animation

can look on 4K again the HDR is

incredible and Spider-Man into the

spider-verse has so many great moments

that'll highlight your TV and highlight

your new OLED qled whatever you've got

if you want to give your TV a workout

and really blast those colors you get

really Vivid colors here with the HDR

which are awesome and then also on top

of that you get another Atmos mix which

is incredible because it has so much

great music now there's the score to

this movie which is really nice and then

there's the soundtrack which is like one

of the better soundtracks I've heard

recently I'd put it right up there with

like some of the Black Panther

soundtracks I mean it's just or

Guardians of the Galaxy it's just so

well done there's so many great songs on

here I mean there were Billboard hits

that came off of this soundtrack like

sunflower post Malone it's so much fun

to listen to and the atmos really does

take it to the next level now the thing

for me that sort of took this even up a

notch is how much they put on Extras

which is really cool on the Blu-ray

there's an alternate universe mode where

you get alternate scenes plot lines car

characters you work with the filmmakers

as your guide you get three different

behind the scenes on building Spider-Man

and New Dimensions introducing new

characters also includes a tribute to

Stan Lee and Steve ditko the Ultimate

Comics cast the spider-verse Super Fan

Easter egg challenge lyrical videos

filmmaker commentary and a mini movie

spider-ham caught in a ham so not only

is it amazing visually it sounds amazing

it looks amazing it's an awesome movie

maybe my favorite Spider-Man movie since

Marvel took over to be totally honest I

love no way home but this was the

Spider-Man I knew and I grew up with

like this was the style I loved this

type of Spider-Man and I think the Miles

Morales character is just awesome and

they can do so much with that but it's

just an incredible movie it's an

incredible disc it's loaded with bonuses

and if you don't own this one yet go out

and get it right now so that is the list

that's the top 10 let me know what you

guys think of course there's lots it's a

great animated movie so I'm sure you

have your opinions maybe you'd move

other stuff up to number one maybe I was

too hard on some of them maybe I missed

some that you think I should watch I

know one for sure is ParaNorman I need

to pick that up from shell factory I

haven't purchased it yet but I have a

feeling that would probably make my list

based on what I've read and based on how

good Coraline looks but let me know if

there's others that I missed these are

my top 10 out of my collection right now

and I love all of these I'd highly

recommend them all they're great ways to

show off the color and the HDR that your

TV can output if you're having a hard

time with any of these maybe it's time

for a new TV they're also a great way to

show off your Dolby Atmos system or even

just your most basic surround sound

systems or sound bars they're going to

give everything a workout they all sound

awesome I think every single one on this

list had Dolby Atmos or dtsx which is

really impressive we don't always get

that with movies so a great list 10

movies I think you gotta own on 4K and
