take a look at some more cultural

references and easter eggs from the

classic nickelodeon show spongebob

squarepants so that's what we're going

to do

however we're only going to be looking

at references from season 3 of the show

so if you're a big fan of this season

references and easter eggs from season 3

of spongebob squarepants

the first reference is from the episode

club spongebob this entire episode is a

reference to the classic william golding

novel lord of the flies lord of the

flies is a book about a group of

stranded schoolboys in a desert and

their spiral into insanity club

spongebob is about spongebob squidward

and patrick becoming stranded in the

middle of a kelp forest and squidward's

eventual descend into madness however

the biggest similarity that both clubs

spongebob and lord of the flies share

is the trust of a conch shell

the plots of these two stories are far

too similar for them to not be connected

no what do you mean no i'm starving here

could squidward have some of this yummy

delicious super terrific sandwich

you got captain benson can i speak

the most important thing is

who knows we're here

nobody knows we're here

this is less of reference and more of a

cool piece of trivia but it's connected

to pop culture so i thought i'd include

it anyway as i had no idea about this

originally in the classic spongebob

episode titled the bully spongebob gets

bullied by flats the flounder in boating

school

with flats always threatening violence

against spongebob

now are you a fan of back to the future

movies if so you probably remember the

character biff tannen

well the man who played biff tannen

thomas f wilson is the voice of flats

the founder amongst many other

characters in spongebob as well

hi spongebob i'm gonna kick your butt

are you deaf mcfly close the door and

feed it

you leave her alone

all right

the next reference is a little morbid in

this episode idiot box spongebob and

patrick acquire a huge cardboard box

in this cardboard box they imagine

incredibly eventful scenarios

accompanied by realistic sound effects

and everything we can't see it though

and whenever the box is opened by

squidward it's like nothing ever

happened

there is one scene where spongebob and

patrick are doing a space shuttle launch

and there's a certain sound clip used

from a very tragic event during this bit

here you can hear a sound clip from the

challenger space shuttle disaster a

failed rocket launch that resulted in an

explosion and claimed the lives of

multiple people

i'm not exactly sure why this sound clip

was used as opposed to literally any

other clip of a rocket launch

how are they doing that

was the most realistic space launch i've

ever heard there must be an explanation

challenger now heading down range

engine's beginning throttling down now

at 94 percent

in mermaid man and barnacle boy 4

mermaid man and barnacle boy come into

the grusty crab for something to eat

however they run away from the

restaurant to avoid spongebob wanting an

autograph

because the dynamic duo were in a hurry

mermaid man accidentally leaves his belt

and spongebob gets a hold of it

spongebob ends up shrinking squidward

with the belt alongside a bunch of other

bikini bottomites

one person greets spongebob before they

are shrunk by saying what's up

sponge this is a reference to another

classic cartoon character bugs bunny who

is known for saying what's up doc

our next reference comes from the

episode one crabs trash

in this episode mr krabs accidentally

sails a very rare and sought after hat

to spongebob as mr craps initially

thinks the hat is worthless junk

spongebob eventually realizes that the

hat belongs to a dead person so the hat

returns to its original owner's grave

however mr krabs digs the grave up to

steal the hat and is then attacked by a

bunch of walking skeletons

mr krabs knows how to handle himself

though so he fights back and says look

at me i'm errol finn

this is a reference to the actor errol

flynn who famously played robin hood in

the 1938 live-action film the adventures

of robin hood

mr krabs returns to the krusty krab with

squidward shooting a high budget

commercial for the restaurant mr krabs

isn't happy with this because as we all

know mr grabs is very stingy so to the

disappointment of many people mr krabs

tells the entire crew to leave apart

from the clown of course

now we all know the background character

fred

he's seen in a lot of episodes but is

mostly known for the famous my leg gag

well fred was helping out on set as well

and when everyone is ordered to leave

take a look at what frank is holding

that's right a giant leg this is

obviously a reference to the my leg gag

this job gets very stressful mr krabs

all right get lost all day you're fired

guan scram get out of here you moochers

that's right keep moving you know what

we're gonna you know what yeah check you

you stay
