i would say that we're a modern
australian family
tied to our indian roots
so
like any australian family we all have a
past we all have a cultural background
and we've made sure that we've infused
that into our children and so there is
absolutely the space for daddy to come
in
daddy is a very
colorful dynamic
loving
and dominating character she's a
traditionalist she wears indian
traditional clothes she cooks indian
food she likes to inculcate indian
values there is a diwali thing and she's
all excited she's trying to pass on the
tradition to the next generation
diwali is like indiana
yeah and uh festival lights and there
are like a lot of lights behind us right
now
looks good happy diwali
i mean it's very interesting that for
the first time we are seeing the drama
being set in the indian family it was
really emotional when we did the reading
for this show and our producers
reiterated that this was the first time
an indian family was going to be in the
lead of an australian tv show because
you sort of have these mixed feelings of
why did it take this long for this to
happen
as well as elation that it is happening
to be telling a story that is primarily
plot driven and not um launching off
this stereotypes of culture as well
is
so refreshing it's just not enough to
see diversity it is also important that
we show the cultures with certain
authenticity and it is from their
perspective that we see the drama so
it's very important that we are going
for genuine real characters when i was a
child i didn't see anybody like me
remotely like me on tv if a child gets
to turn on the television and they see
themselves a version of themselves
it helps them feel less invisible in the
world i feel joy at the thought that my
younger cousins will turn the television
on and see somebody who looks like them
i didn't get that
to be a part of that and to finally see
that indian family as a main cast is
so cool
it just normalizes diversity because it
is normal yes it is no more we are
normal
well
