There’s nothing quite like a good horror movie to get your blood pumping. And if you’re a fan of horror movies, then you know that the best ones are often the ones that are based on true stories.

The same can be said for sports. There are some truly terrifying moments in sports history that will make your hair stand on end. Here are some of the top scariest moments in football history:

1. The “Miracle at Michigan” - In 1978, the Michigan Wolverines were trailing the Ohio State Buckeyes by a score of 14-6 with just seconds remaining in the game. But then, Michigan quarterback John Wangler completed a pass to wide receiver Anthony Carter, who ran it into the end zone for a touchdown. The Wolverines won the game by a score of 15-14, and the moment has come to be known as the “Miracle at Michigan.”

2. The “Immaculate Reception” - In 1972, the Pittsburgh Steelers were trailing the Oakland Raiders by a score of 7-6 with just seconds remaining in the game. Pittsburgh quarterback Terry Bradshaw threw a pass towards the end zone, but it was deflected by an Oakland defender. The ball then bounced off of the head of Steelers running back Franco Harris, who caught it and ran into the end zone for a touchdown. The Steelers won the game by a score of 13-7, and the moment has come to be known as the “Immaculate Reception.”

3. The “Hail Mary” - In 1975, the Dallas Cowboys were trailing the Minnesota Vikings by a score of 14-10 with just seconds remaining in the game. Dallas quarterback Roger Staubach then threw a pass towards the end zone, which was caught by Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson for a touchdown. The Cowboys won the game by a score of 17-14, and the moment has come to be known as the “Hail Mary.”

4. The “Music City Miracle” - In 1999, the Tennessee Titans were trailing the Buffalo Bills by a score of 16-15 with just seconds remaining in the game. The Titans then attempted a “lateral” play, in which the ball was lateraled several times before being caught by Titans wide receiver Kevin Dyson. Dyson then ran into the end zone for a touchdown, and the Titans won the game by a score of 22-16. The moment has come to be known as the “Music City Miracle.”

5. The “Miracle at the Meadowlands” - In 1978, the New York Giants were leading the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 17-12 with just seconds remaining in the game. But then, Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski threw a pass towards the end zone, which was caught by Eagles wide receiver Harold Carmichael for a touchdown. The Eagles won the game by a score of 19-17, and the moment has come to be known as the “Miracle at the Meadowlands.”
