KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Doctor Ntuthuko Mahlaba says the prize money for the Comrades Marathon winners should be increased.
Mahlaba was speaking at the champion's prize giving ceremony in Durban.
Over 17-thousand athletes participated in the 96th edition of the 87 point 7 kilometre race from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
Race winners Tete Dijana and Gerda Steyn earned one-point-two million rand each for the win and for breaking the down-run records.
