from spending billions of dollars to
unify Global Golf to ending all of the
current ongoing lawsuits between them
here's the real reason PGA and live golf
have merged it's been a wild couple of
years for the sport with the emergence
of a rival league and players being
banned for joining it we've had some
really nasty verbal spats protests and
even lawsuits in court it was almost as
if the game itself was imploding with
people saying that golf will not survive
through this chaos and yet after all
that back and forth and so much
animosity the PGA Tour DP World Tour and
live golf are now merging into one
entity to unify Global Golf and guess
how they're doing it with the help of
the Saudi public investment fund also
known as the pif yes the same one that's
been criticized for pouring billions to
set up live golf but now that the money
is also coming to the PGA Tour it
doesn't seem as bad anymore in all
seriousness though the news came out of
nowhere and hit everyone like a truck
full of bricks not even the PGA Tour or
live golf players knew about it heck
Rory McIlroy who's on The tour's
Advisory Board only found out with the
rest of the world so it was definitely
wild that being said the general
consensus is that this was a much needed
move for the sport you know why well
it's because not only does it end all
the feuds in one single move but it's
also going to solidify the future of the
sport in the long run not to mention
with the amount of money that's going to
go into this new entity now thanks to
the pif there's no way anyone else could
even DARE stand up and start another
venture like live golf like that whole
thing is done and dusted and we're gonna
see a golf turn into this giant thing
over the next few years what does it
actually mean for everyone involved
though and more importantly what are the
fans gonna see in the near future well
for starters the pif will get a lot of
control over the new golfing brand in
fact Yasser al-rumian who's the governor
of the pif will be a part of the new
board of directors and yeah the PGA Tour
commissioner Jay Monahan is going to be
right alongside him obviously money has
played a big role in his decision but
there's also the fact that the PGA Tour
was getting weaker and he had to pull
the trigger what about Liv's CEO Greg
Norman though yeah it looks like he's
been sidelined by Yasir because
apparently he found out about the merger
at the same time as everyone else now
whether that means the end of live golf
or not we'll have to wait and see though
most signs are pointing toward a
different team-based League that looks
and works like Liv but isn't actually
live as a matter of fact Rory McIlroy
also says that he still hates those guys
despite the merger and that this deal
isn't about live golf at all instead he
believes it's only limited to the pif
and the PGA Tour meaning the upstart
circuit won't have any say in how things
are run going forward of course that
doesn't mean it's not a major win for
live golf players who took hundreds of
millions of dollars worth of contracts
and are now probably gonna walk back
into the PGA tour in fact that's
actually one of the major points of
debate right now since people like Rory
think that these guys shouldn't be
allowed back into their previous tour at
least not without paying any penalties
anyway and that folks also means that
people are very mad at Jay Monahan
seriously this guy is villain number one
in golf right now which is wild
considering people loved him for taking
a stand against live golf for so long
that's the thing though Jay has turned
his back on every single principle he's
held ever since the emergence of live
golf which is why fans and players think
he's a total hypocrite
let's go through some of the things he
said in the past I mean just look at his
Feud with the Saudi league and his
comments against Greg Norman he
criticized them for taking billions of
dollars from the public investment fund
even backing protests by the families of
9 11 victims after all the Saudi
government has been criticized for its
human rights issues including the
alleged murder of a journalist Jamal
khashoggi and that was the basis for
this whole Feud with live golf but now
after doing all that for months Jay has
just gone out and taken money from the
pif like it's nothing
and all the human rights issues and all
those arguments yeah they don't matter
anymore either and the only thing he
keeps repeating is how this deal is good
for the game
I don't know about you but that seems a
bit hypocritical to me
that said money does talk at the end of
the day so it's no surprise that golf
has gone down this route as well then
again this is not the only issue with
what he's done there's the whole aspect
of 9 11 families and their protests too
in fact they even published a statement
right after the deal was announced
expressing just how disappointed they
were in Jay in the PGA Tour they thought
that there was an American company that
actually cared about these issues but
the PGA Tour also turned out to be paid
Saudi shills what's more than 9 11
families United also say that the tour's
leaders should be ashamed of their
hypocrisy and greed now those are some
serious allegations how did Jay respond
to them
well he was actually asked to address
these things on live television but
horribly fumbled the things he said
first he couldn't even figure out what
to say and the things he did end up
saying didn't make it any better either
basically he said that he was sorry
about not informing the families of 9 11
victims about this deal earlier and that
he regrets doing that sure he's
apologizing but I don't think they're
mad about him informing them too late
like he didn't even address their actual
grievances though truth be told there's
really no way out of this for Jay
because he has been a hypocrite and
nothing he says will make things any
better as a matter of fact things are so
bad that the PGA Tour golfers are asking
him to resign wait what isn't this deal
supposed to improve the game going
forward especially for the golfers
themselves why are they mad it's simple
really a lot of PGA Tour members feel
like they've been betrayed because they
spent all this time and energy batting
for the tour and staying loyal to it
but rather than support them and
actually go through with the stance
they've held the tour has essentially
turned its back on them you know why
because a lot of these players could
have taken massive deals and just gone
to live golf I mean even Rory McIlroy
says that he feels like a bit of a
sacrificial lamb in this Saga because
everything he did for the tour has been
for nothing that being said Jay Monahan
has said that players like McElroy and
woods will be rewarded handsomely for
their loyalty so hey maybe things aren't
so bad after all are they who knows we
could even see some massive bonuses
being handed out just to calm these
players down and keep them happy plus
expect the purses for a lot of future
events to be massive as well
speaking of events though how is the new
entity even gonna work well so
apparently all the involved parties have
only been talking to each other for
about seven weeks meaning we don't have
any concrete details about the structure
Jay has even said that not a single
dollar has been invested yet still it
looks like the PGA Tour and the DP World
Tour will continue except as a single
Global tour with events across the board
as for live golf well the new entity
will look to continue team golf in some
capacity too now whether that's going to
be in the form of the Saudi League like
Greg Norman says or something else
entirely remains to be seen the best
thing that has come out of this merger
though is the fact that all litigation
is now over so you know the antitrust
lawsuit that live golf members filed
against the PGA Tour yeah that's done
and dusted not to mention the PGA tour's
lawsuit which it filed in retaliation is
also gone and that was mostly about live
golf making players break their
contracts by giving them big money
contracts now the first thought that
comes to mind is that these players
won't be banned by the tour anymore and
will be allowed to walk back in though
multiple sources have said that there
could be some Hefty fines that they've
got to pay if they want to come back I
mean it's all a chaotic mess right now
and no one knows what's happening but
that's why we love this game so much so
there you have it from ending all of the
current ongoing lawsuits between them to
spending billions of dollars to unify
Global Golf this was the real reason PGA
and live golf have merged
