hello and welcome to another episode of

control i'm daniel cutting and i'm here

at the adidas lab in a secret location

in central london as you know by now

control is all about those marginal

gains and i tell you what this place is

where those marginal gains are really

happening let's go and check out how

adidas are taking football technology to

the next level

so first off i'm going to head over to

the adidas track to find out what kind

of player i am and which football boot

is best suited to me to do it i'm going

to use the f50 which is messi's football

boot

what's this going to test

this is going to cost for speed control

and agility first business speed because

it's a 50 meter dash second bit is

agility because this box the box the

last bit is controlled because you're

dribbling around the cones okay so

through that you'll be able to see which

boot suits you the best whether you're a

speed player

an agile player or a controller okay so

cool let's do it

bad but there is some heavy heavy rumors

was the best he's seen all day so i'll

take that

it did say though that was best suited

to the adidas f50 great boot now let's

move on and check out some more things

so um i can't believe i'm about saying

this zinedine zidane is right there

one of my heroes from my childhood

this guy is checking out the latest

stuff from adidas this guy is one of the

best players of his day

and he still wants to find out where

those marginal gains are

so i've been joined by matt to talk us

through the my coach elite team system

so we have my coach elite here which is

a state-of-the-art physiological

monitoring system for elite teams

we have a complete system here that

consists of

the techfit base layer and that actually

has heart rate sensors integrated into

it in that top then sits what we have

here which is the player cell okay this

is a small device it's about 52 grams it

heads nice and tight into the techfit

piece so this little device uh

records data at about 100 times a second

and that is speed distance heart rate

acceleration and power

and from there it transmits that data to

our base station so this box we have

here

and from there it's onto an ipad via

wi-fi in less than a second so from when

it happens on my body to when a coach

sees it on an ipad yeah it's less than a

second that's incredible so currently

we've got teams using a training ac

milan have been using it for the last

few months we've got the whole major

league soccer using it we've got the

german national team and we'll be

rolling out to a lot more of our assets

in the near future

and

currently they're using it in training

feature are putting together a research

team to go through and have this

approved for use in game but obviously

we're not there yet tonight so this is

just for the elite athletes what is

there for the consumer yeah you're

completely right this is focused really

on our elite teams as i said our ac

model is our real madrid we're

definitely looking to take this

technology and offer a team solution as

well but everything we do at this level

informs our devices which anyone can use

we have the speed cell which measures

speed distance and the number of sprints

you have and we have excel coming as

well which will measure your explosivity

on the field and how you move around

so take a look at this the kit is

getting lighter and lighter and lighter

and they're not only doing that just

with the kit it's also with the boots

the lightest boot that adidas have

currently got is 165 grams no one else

is anywhere near to that really a few

people are trying to go a little bit

closer shaving off a gram here or ground

there the new one that adidas have just

designed this one here

it's 99 grams so under 100 grams it's

literally paper light it's gonna make

you fast it's gonna make you agile it's

gonna be the difference between you

being a great player and the best player

one thing that's getting lots of

attention here is this

looks like a regular football

but it's not this thing

built inside it can calculate speed spin

bend trajectory where your foot makes

contact with the ball how much heavier

is this than a regular football we're

within fifa regulator

so you do your kick the ball does all

the math and over bluetooth it sends

that data back to your iphone and we can

look at it at

different angles oh wow or i can rotate

it sideways

yeah and this might have been the wall

if i'm in a park and i don't have a full

field or i don't feel like chasing the

ball every time i kick it it'll bounce

back to me but we'll project the rest of

that fight wow that's cool right and

then we've got speed and we've got spin

speed and then the bend from a top view

oh really of what that kick did so it

seems like we're not the only youtube

channel here today

checking out their uh free kicking

yeah we are doing freaking stuff reviews

reviews on youtube so guys what's

brought you here today um yeah we are

filming at the adidas lab

testing this my coach football new

technology and yeah it's great stuff

it's amazing and hopefully we're going

to be linking up with these guys for

another episode of control where we're

going to be looking at free kicks and

shooting so these guys are going to

teach me a few things so i'm looking

forward to it should be good so am i

aiming for a particular point on the

screen or just trying to just try to

spin it doesn't matter and we'll do all

the work so the more spin the better

yeah let's see how much you got okay

you can see why it's high right away

look how low your contact point with the

ball was

right

there's your flight if we look at it you

can see we hit high on the wall

right and you can see the the bend

number there and then yeah your total

spin

643 that's pretty high it's not good

spin yeah that's good spin but we've

seen kicks into the 800. so this isn't

like a golf simulator where you have to

hit a a certain point you don't even

have to hit a certain point on a wall

the ball is doing all of the work it's

calculated all these things

it's amazing

they had more power than your other

kicks yeah

you committed to that i committed i

wanted it i wanted that look how much

higher that kick point is and 62 mile an

hour

let's go i want speed i'm warmed up so

we'll set you up in the power challenge

okay you got to kick 60 or higher okay

three times in a row okay 60 or higher

and we'll show the results

one of the free kicker guys did it okay

uh the daniel yes

the smaller one yeah daniel did it

daniel i'm about to bring it now come on

i'm getting better it's not too bad it's

not too bad actually it's it's the third

highest we've seen today third highest

what was the second highest 72

and then daniel free kickers yeah that's

amazing he did 77 and 83. yeah he did

other ones in that range so wow so how

close is this to them going into the

real game to actually be used so right

now

it's a consumer product and it's a dead

ball situation product right so we're

really targeted at uh at our young

players or really any football fan that

wants to get better yeah

for us is to make it affordable yeah

but as well as as high quality as it is

exactly yeah it's that balance

amazing stuff here at the adidas lab

around and zinedine zidane is there

place to be i'll tell you what's seen

some great things but that football for

me i never thought i would see a

football that could do that tell your

speed tell you everything like the bend

the whip the trajectory that is
