DIY Shiplap Electric Fireplace Build with Mantel | HGG Home Series

girl and another episode of

hgg home this is our video series where

we share with you diy

home and lifestyle projects

so today i'm really really excited to

share with you a project that we just

completed

and that is our fireplace when we moved

into this home we had this big blank

wall in our living room and i knew that

i wanted to have a fireplace

and something that we could build

ourselves to save money

and erin is so great at building so i

came up with some inspiration some

inspirational photos some

design ideas and aaron brought it to

life he did an amazing job it is so

beautiful i'm so happy with how it

turned out

i'm gonna stop talking and turn it over

to aaron because he's going to take you

through step by step

how he built this fireplace one more

thing that i'll add

is that and aaron will talk more about

this too is that our mantel

is this beautiful real barn wood

beam and aaron went on this long drive

to go get it from this reclaimed barn

wood beam

company in california and it's just so

beautiful and then we have this

fabulous electric fireplace from modern

blaze

which i will be talking more about in

this video

so let's get to it here's how we built

our beautiful fireplace in our home

oh and one more thing before we get to

our video everything that we used

to create this fireplace i will link

below in our video description box to

make it really easy

how you doing joining me midday i just

picked up some old

1800 barn wood a couple hours from our

house

drove up and got a couple pieces cut

gonna do a mantle

and we're gonna do a couple floating

shelves in our kitchen nook

so this is the project

i decided to build the frame for this

project in the garage mostly so i was

close to my chop saw but also because i

did it over a couple of days

and i did not want all the noise and

construction around the kids play zone

for the frame i used two by sixes and

two by fours where i needed strength

and then two by threes everywhere else

to save money and

overall weight i also kept the frame in

two pieces to make it easier to carry in

and install

once the framework was in place i

installed the fireplace

this dynasty harmony fireplace came with

a very easy to follow guide

for what the size of the framing should

be so it was a pretty simple install

but it was definitely a two-person job

getting the fireplace into position

the fireplace comes with small clear and

black rocks for the base

and then either logs or crystals we

decided on using the logs

being able to create your own custom

fire bed and the option to change it up

over time is pretty awesome

personalization is a great feature of

the harmony fireplace

it has quite a few different flame and

base colors to choose from

after the fireplace was installed and

tested i started on the ship lap

taking it halfway up to the mantle

[Music]

height

i needed the shiplap to be in place

behind the mantle

but i wanted to still be able to get

into the frame to securely bolt this

enormous mantle

i have no idea how heavy this thing is

but it has to be over 200 pounds

i built a hinged frame to lift and hold

the mantle in position

while i bolted it in place

i used three six inch lag bolts as well

as two metal pipes reaching all the way

back to the wall

so i feel pretty good about how secure

the mantel is

once the mantel was installed the

project was smooth sailing i finished up

with the ship lap

filled in the gaps at the corners and

painted it

we are very happy with our fireplace

choice the dynasty harmony bef which we

it is easy to install and operate energy

efficient and has a variety of options

for customizing the look

in addition to the controls hidden on

the front of the fireplace

the harmony bef also comes with a handy

dandy remote control

which controls all of the features

including the three different flame

colors

and 13 different bed color options we

usually keep the flames at

orange and the bed off because we think

that provides the most realistic look

it also has a heater which will be

awesome for those chilly winter days

and what's great about the heater is it

is front facing meaning you don't need

to vent it

but even with the front facing heater

this fireplace still mounts flush and

has a thin trim

something you don't often find with

electric fireplaces for links to the
