the school has four main research groups
um the first one is the institute for
the psychology of elite performance
where we're particularly interested in
elite performance and the psychological
mechanisms that underpin elite
performance so we work with some very
high level organizations in that group
england and wales cricket board the mod
the ministry of defense army and the uk
sport we also have the perceptual moto
group which looks at the link between
emotions and movement so particularly
interested in how people learn under
different emotions and how they can then
translate that into high stress
environments for example
and also the other way around and how
actions can inform how we feel about
ourselves
we also have the extremes group this is
a very exciting young group of
researchers led by professor neil walsh
who they look at the extreme
environments anything to do with human
performance in extreme environments
they're extremely hot and cold extremely
high altitude we also have two
environmental chambers in the school
which allows students to be involved in
research projects which are very
exciting they enjoy getting very cold
very hot and doing exercise in those
environments and the final group is the
health and exercise rehabilitation group
we do
exercise and rehabilitation work with
especially with a health focus we look
at patients in the nhs
and especially how exercise can benefit
those patients especially
rheumatoid arthritis
cancer renal failure that sort of thing
so the benefits of exercise in those
environments and we actually have world
leaders in the field who are doing
research in that area
