In the United Kingdom, the Department for education is responsible for education, health and care plans. The department was formed in 2010, following the merger of the Department for Children, schools and Families and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills. The department is responsible for education, apprenticeships, skills, children and young people's work. The department is also responsible for the care and support of looked-after children and young people, and children in need.

The department's main aim is to provide high-quality education and care for all children and young people, so that they can reach their full potential. The department is committed to working in partnership with other agencies and organisations to improve education, health and care services for children and young people.

The department has a number of key priorities, which include:

- Improving standards in education

- Raising the quality of apprenticeships

- Improving the quality of early years provision

- Improving outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities

- Improving school attendance

- Reducing the number of young people not in education, employment or training
